Defect: 2000 Toyota Tundra rusting frame. Vehicle purchased new in 2000 and purchased rust proofing package. Frame rust was noticed in 2004 and returned to rust proofing vendor for warranty. Was told that it was a problem with the frame and to go back to Toyota. Toyota at the time was recalling Tacoma's for a rusting frame problem. Toyota Tundra's have not been recalled, but Toyota will arrange inspection and will fix with a gel application (when available) if rusting is present. We feel they should handle this problem with a recall and offer the customer the same options as for the Tacoma recall: If there is no rust, automatically extend warranty to 15 years, if there is rust, the frames are replaced at no cost to the consumer or Toyota would buy back the truck at 150 percent of the high kelly blue book value. My truck has under 80,000 miles on it and I don't feel this problem will go away anytime soon. Rust is falling off the truck frame staining the garage floor and no matter how much gel they put on, it will not last. Because I was pro-active in scraping off the rust and applying rust resistor myself (because Toyota refused to do anything for me in 2004), I have deterred the frame from rusting through at this time. However, from a safety standpoint and due to the fact that Toyota had problems with the Tacoma, I feel they should be held accountable for the defect in the frame material for the Tundra.

2000 Toyota Tundra rust found in front frame box while having Toyota dealer inspect for cross member recalled by Toyota. I consider this to be a serious safety hazard if in an accident.. more so than the rear crossmember dealer kept my vehicle.

While washing the underside of my 2000 Toyota Tundra in a commercial self-service car wash numerous pieces of severely rusted flakes of steel came off my frame. The largest pieces were the size of a motorcycle license plate. These pieces came off from the main fore and aft frame members forward of the back tires. Upon further inspection I noticed that not only the aforementioned main frame members were severely rusted but that the cross-member frame pieces were also very rusted. I am concerned that the integrity of the frame has been compromised by this severe rusting.

2000 limited Toyota Tundra has excessive frame rust. More than I've ever seen on a vehicle that was not in a junkyard. No serious incidents have occurred thus far, but I am sure that this frame will fail soon. I noticed the problem about a year ago and have noticed that the problem has gotten exponentially worse in that time.

To whom it may concern, I own a 2000 4X4 limited Tundra which has a rust problem. Most of the underside of the vehicle has heavy surface rust. It also has a front body mount that is rusted and corroded the medal is flaking and peeling away. I took the vehicle to a Toyota dealer for inspection. The dealer told me that the frame has no perforation holes in it. Nothing they can do. In addition to all the rust I had to replace rear brake lines and rear parking brake assembly on both sides do to rust and corrosion. I called Toyota Corp to complain about these problems all they did was give me a case number. I also told them that the value of my vehicle has been compromised due to the rust. They will not do anything until holes are formed through the frame. I feel im caught between a rock and a hard place. Toyota did the right thing last year with the Tacoma having rust issues but doing nothing for Tundra owners.

2000 Toyota Tundra. Frame extremely rusted. I have 3 holes in my frame. The biggest being the size of a baseball with no attempt on my part to make it larger. The location is approx 6-8" from front bumper (drivers side). 2nd being same location on pass. Side. 3rd hole being under back door on drivers side. The entire frame is delaminating. Shock brackets are to bad to install new shocks. Sections of frame are thinner due to metal that has fallen off. Truck has been inspected by field service technician from Toyota. Toyota has given me several dates that they were going to give me their answer to the resolution only to be pushed back. Latest date is Jan 25.

On 12/01/09 I was informed by Toyota & Scion of clifton park NY that my 2000 Toyota Tundra had a hole/perforation in the frame & the drives side cross bar was all rusted out. I was advised to contact Toyota's 1-800 number which was done on 12/8/09. Between 12/10/09 & 12/11/09 a regional manager from Toyota inspected my truck and again I was advised to contact the 1-800 which was done on 12/15/09. A customer service representative informed me someone will contact me within 24hrs regarding the vehicle. As of the time of this report they have failed to do so.

I own a 2000 Toyota Tundra which has severe frame corrosion. On 12-05-09 the drivers side rear shackle support broke. I had no cargo or any load in the bed of the truck at the time and did not lose control of the vehicle. The only way I perceived anything wrong with the truck was the very loud bang I heard as the shackle support gave out, and the bed of the truck shifted downward. I am not sure if I can safely operate my vehicle as this is the only transportation I have available to me. I called ira Toyota in danvers Massachusetts and was informed that no recall is currently covering the problem I am experiencing. I was given a telephone number to call at Toyota(1-800-331-4331). No weekend hours..............no help!

The brake line tubing at the proportioning valve on the left rear inside frame rail corroded and burst causing all brake fluid to escape and the brake pedal went to the floor and made the vehicle difficult to stop. I was traveling close to home at a speed of approximately 25 mph. I down shifted and was able to slow to 5mph to drive the vehicle to my home garage where I replaced the tubing, fluid and bled the brakes. Fortunately no accident occurred, I discarded the old tubing and fittings after the repairs were made. The frame area behind the tubing near the left rear shock mount is corroded so badly that I am able to pass a tennis ball through the left rear frame rail. The right and left frame rails are perforated where the spare tire carrier is riveted to the horizontal frame channels directly above the rear axle. The frame is corroded badly and paper thin in areas that surround the perforations.
