My vehicle has suffered both major safety recalls, once where I was with my son after picking him up from school on a highway the egr canister spontaneously combusted causing major damage that fca said was not a manufacturer issue but a after my insurance repaired my vehicle they made the recall for the fires. After 3 weeks with me vehicle from repair the engine stalled out while I was driving at night on a highway, I had it towed to a dealership and after the inspection was told that the tone wheel was broken and that it had caused damage that would require a new engine. I paid close to $7,000 dollars to have the engine replaced because of this. A few months later fca issued a recall for the tone wheel problem the tech at the dealership wrote this in his notes.

Dodge Ram 1500 eco diesel 2015 loss of crankshaft position and ring tone wheel ! had a recall W58 to fix crankshaft position which now damaged the ring sensor wheel! recall was done March 9, 2021, April 5th truck stalled in driveway and would not start ! had to tow to dealership! Dodge still has not received the fix and wants us to pay the $2000 bill ! this is unacceptable since they supposedly fixed one thing that affected the ring magnetic material ! recall W58 specifically stated that 'the tone material attached to the tone wheel on your vehicle provides a signal to the crankshaft position sensor'. there is another recall that we did not get W68 that supposedly addresses the ring! why are we not included in this recall "???" we could have been in a serious accident when the truck stalled ! !!!

Traveled appr. 1/2 mile, 30 mph engine lost power, rattled and clanked like timing was off would hardly move- stalled me on busy 2 lane hwy. Transmission knob locked up, errors reading adjust trailer brake slider- no trailer connected to me. Tried adjusting, allowed me to put in park, could not get back out of park, would not let me shut of engine. It was totally stalled, but running like a clanky train- finally was able to get truck in reverse and back into drive 500 feet behind me. Had no power steering at all. Engine was loping so bad it felt like I had a flat tire. Got the truck in drive - still limited power, no power steering. Got truck up to house safely off road- yellow engine light was on. I was able to get truck in park on selector knob. Shut truck off. Called to make an appt. To get truck in. Tried to start truck and would turn over but will not start. I got notice several months ago of loss of crank position. I called larson Dodge to get it fixed and they said they did not have info on how to fix it yet, to call back after first of year. So here I am. It is very scary to pull onto main 2 lane hwy and totally lose power and control all at the same time. No shoulder on road, can not explain the feeling but it is an awful feeling to be in motion and lose all control of the vehicle. This definitely is dangerous and easily people could die from it if it happened on the freeway or any busy road. Please people be aware of this. This faulty situation could easily cost you and your loved ones and or complete strangers their lives. Not so much by the vehicle itself, but by losing power and control, you can easily get slammed into. I was just waiting to get hit, but a very aware semi truck driver saw I was in trouble and stopped before the opening of the drive to allow me to back up into it. I could not go forward. The control knob would not let me put it in drive.

After getting the fca emissions modification pushed out by Ram/Fiat, I have lost about 20-25% gas mileage and power in the truck. The modification has ruined a great truck. Truck is now dangerous because of a lag and lack of power. Mod was installed in summer of 2019 and truck is now ruined.

The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact had not received the notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20V475000 (engine and engine cooling) however, the VIN was included in the recall. The contact stated that while driving at 80 mph, the vehicle stalled with the fuel throttle and electronic power brake warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to key auto mall (3700 16th St, moline, il 61265) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the crank position sensor tone wheel failed causing the vehicle to stall. The power train control module software was updated however, the crack position sensor was not replaced. The vehicle was taken to adamson motors (4800 us-52, rochester, mn 55901) and the contact was informed that he needed to pay for the part, even though the vehicle experienced the recall failure. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,600.

2015 Ram 1500 ecodiesel message " incorrect def detected see dealer truck will shutdown in 500 miles" I have been to 2 dealers with my truck both times my truck has been at dealer for over 30 days. It is part of the ecodiesel class action lawsuit. It has received an emissions modification warranty. Dealer does not seem able to diagnose or repair the issue. In the settlement consent decree it states that if vehicle cannot be repaired in 30 days and buyback can occur. It has been 30 days twice at 2 different dealers. The truck seems unrepairable. It has been unusable since Dec 22 2020

First week of December 2020, I had a normal oil change. The following day my Ram it would not turn over. It was towed to a local shop where I was told that it was the battery (even though the battery was only a year old). Found my Ram VIN had long list of open recalls. I contacted dealership. Provided with loaner. Service adviser said truck was not safe to drive because of the egr recall. A couple hundred more miles, a fire engine would have ensued. My egr had completely failed, coolant had gotten into my intake. Parts were backordered because manufacturing of mods just began. 12/24/20 all recall mods/repairs completed. Dealership advised truck was safe and operable. Received fcas extended limited warranty. 2 weeks later coolant/water leaking from underneath. Found the coolant levels dropped. Contacted dealership, service at that time could not find leak. Told to recheck in one week. 1 week later, levels not lower but coolant fluid smell after shutting off engine. Told it was normal. Friday 2/12/21 truck started irregularly and gurgled. Found coolant had dropped significantly below the recommended levels. Brought back to dealership. Before dropping it off another mechanic found coolant leak dripping down the 4 wheel drive actuator and front cover with traces of it coming out of the water pump and valve cover gasket. Put into a loaner. I was told my water pump failed. Not covered under new fca warranty. All recall repairs/modifications did not fix issues. Vehicle remained inoperable and dangerous. Coolant never stopped leaking into intake and other areas of engine. The egr is a component failed causing domino breakdown of entire truck engine. Recall states the failed egr will cause thermal fatigue and high temperatures to crack portions of the cooling system (hence the engine fires).

Aem update caused vehicle to perform in an unsafe manner. Hesitates upon acceleration from stop. Transmission shifts irregular and no longer slows vehicle downhill. During acceleration motor can redline and cause a rapid deceleration. Never sure exactly what is going to happen when pressing the fuel pedal. Never sure if it will safely go when it is supposed to. Fuel economy is also reduced from 28 mpg to 25 mpg. It is now a scary vehicle to drive. Was in right lane eastbound on highway 152 going over pacheo pass behind slow truck traffic at approximately 30 mph. When attempting to accelerate while changing lanes the motor went to redline and depowered. I quickly had to brake and get back in the right lane behind the truck traffic. The vehicle had never done anything like that in the 4-1/2 years prior to the aem. They ruined my truck with the modifications, it is a major safety issue when the truck shuts off power when accelerating.

It's the tone wheel for crankshaft and crank shaft position sensor. And when taken to dealership they have no parts to fix my trucks and I was given a case worker with fca or Dodge and they can't get the parts it's been 3 months.

On October 1, 2020, my truck stalled while pulling out of my driveway and would not restart. A youtube video link is provided at the end of this description. The truck has been at the dealership ever since. Today (December 7, 2020) marks 68 consecutive days out of service for this problem and the truck remains undriveable. The problem was immediately diagnosed as a bad crank position sensor and tone ring. These same parts were recalled under 20V-475 (fca recall W58) back in August. I received written notification of the recall approximately 1 week after my truck failed. Fca and big O Dodge have been unable to repair my truck in a reasonable time, and are unwilling to provide a fair trade-in value or discuss buypack. This, despite the truck being part of the ecodiesel class-action lawsuit settlement that requires fca to buyback trucks that experience >30 days out of service during the 18 months following the emissions modification software. The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated while her husband was driving at 80 mph and towing a trailer, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed multiple times and remained at the residence of an acquaintance. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the crankshaft sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20V475000 (engine and engine cooling) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact called several unknown dealers and it was confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. VIN tool confirms parts not available. The failure mileage was approximately 127,010.
