Defective transmission when purchased. Aamco transmission specialist, Inc. Rebuilt, defective transmission and stated that ours was one of thousands (7 0F 10 automatic transmissions built in "95 we defective) I would like for Mazda american to at least help with the costs that we have incurred.
This transmission has been replaced twice in the last three years and is needing to be replace now as I type this information somethingis truly wrong with this car or the servicer I need some help.
I'm taking my '95 Mazda 626 back to my mechanic because I suspect the car's having the same problem -- less than 7 months after the original breakdown.
Ovrdirve light flashes and car will no shift gears smoothly. Have learned that Mazda has a history of transmission problems but will not do anything about is. Cars have failed on the highway with a possibility of injuries.

Transmission failed first time while making left turn at congested intersection, barely escaped injury. Transmission was repaired, failed againg 4 months later; this time apparently electric or electronic problem, unable to repair now going on 4 weeks.
Transmission lost all forward gears, only moved in reverse. Dealer notified and informed consumer of possible replacement needed at consumer cost. Please feel free to provide any further details.
1st transmission went out at 64000 miles and 2nd at 12100 miles. Mazda was contacted but refused to assist. The last breakdown could have been bad. My wife was traveling on an interstate that was under construction when the tranny failed. She was able to get the car off the road out of immediate danger. She contacted me and I went to her aid. I have discovered that this is a common problem with this vehicle and believe it to be a hazard. Please help and get Mazda to recall this inferior product. Thank you very much!!!
Transmission failed @ 82K miles - O/D display flashes - neutrals from take-off - slips 2nd & 3rd gear. No overdrive. Advised that transmission replacement needed. Cannot believe with all the complaints listed on you site that no recall has been initiated.
Overdrive light flashes as first symptom. Next, the car will hesitate at gear changes. The car will then buck hard at these gear changes. The transmission will eventually fail, according to the dealer. They believe there will be additional notice. No codes are present within the system. No field service bulletins have been issued, according to dealers (more than one that I've discussed it with) while Mazda corporate says they have issued field service bulletins, but will not release information to the public. The dealer's solution is to replace the equipment at $2,300. This is a known problem among dealers and owners, and widely discussed on the internet, from my research. The service advisor at the dealer says they replace transmissions frequently on these models years 93-97. Mazda will not acknowledge. There is no service book available for purchase and the owner's manual does not address the problem in its troubleshooting section, nor does it include any maintenance tips for the transmission. Please contact me for websites that I have found pertaining to this specific problem.
Consumer was traveling about 75mph & overdrive light came on, and vehicle went into overdrive. Gear kept up & down. Vehicle was also smoking real badly. Dealer never told consumer what caused the problem. 3 weeks later, it happened again & the dealer said it just happens that Mazda are sensitive. Problem caused transmission to burn out.
While stopping consumer could not move the pawl from park to drive or to any other possition. When starting the vehicle the driver is unable to shift from park to any other gear for the past 6 months. The dealer states the problem is caused by bad solenoid.
Overdrive light came on the dashboard. The first warning came when consumer was on the highway traveling about 55mph, and vehicle lost power on the highway. Transmission was replaced twice already. Consumer took vehicle to dealership, and mechanic told her that the transmission is going. Vehicle needs a new transmission.
The vehicle was hesitating at acceleration, then the overdrive light started blinking, after which I could not accelerate and basically the vehicle would not move. Luckily I was near a service station, which render me assistance and said that the transmission needed to be replaced.
Overdrive off light started flashing 3 days on open road, engine light comes on at 35 mph, took to dealer said "these cars just reset themselves. There's no problem according to the computer." Wants to stall at times, but doesn't. disappointed in a car that was a grad "gift"
