My new 2020 Jeep Wrangler sport has excessive steering-wheel play resulting in an inability to maintain a straight line at speed on the interstates. Unlike my previous 2018 Wrangler sahara, or current 2020 Grand Cherokee, which permit total steering control, the sport moves from side-to-side, I.e., "floats, " in the drafts of tractor trailers as they pass, or in crosswinds, or on bumpy roads. Can't maintain a straight line in the lane, only able to recover as the vehicle drifts from center. The dealership's service dept says it's not fixable; Chrysler's customer concern dept says it's a "factory built wheel assembly and can't be adjusted." As I've driven all models of Jeep for some 30 years, I'm quite disappointed inasmuch as it's a serious safety issue not being able to fully control the front end at speed on the highway.
I have had my Jeep for 9 months now. Steering is horrible and at high speeds dangerous! it is impossible to keep in a straight line. I was told by the dealer that this is a "Jeep" thing and that I would get used to it, but I found out today that older Jeep do not have an issue as bad as the 2019/2020 models and that I need to get it looked at. I do not know what to do at this point as I do not feel safe driving above 55 mph in my Jeep.
The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle drifted to the left and to the right. The vehicle was taken to weekley Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (50 main St, butler, oh 44822, (419) 883-2461) to be diagnosed. The mechanic was unable to provide the cause for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.
Vehicle has loose steering causing the vehicle to wander on the road. It is an unsafe condition and could cause an accident, injury, or death. This happens when the vehicle is in motion on the roads for freeways. Tire pressure was set to recommended level of 36psi.
Bought the vehicle brand new on 06/19/2020. Since driving the steering has became significantly loose. Alot of play in the wheel. Driving on roads its very hard to keep straight. I do not feel safe driving it. Feels like you have to constantly correct while driving. Feels like im going to crash into another car. There is alot of dead zone in the wheel. This must be looked at. This os not a "Jeep thing".

Am unable to keep vehicle driving straight on the road. Am having to constantly keep moving the steering wheel to keep vehicle straight. Steering wheel has about an half to inch play before it affects steering windt road or narrow roads very dangerous. Have taken to dealership and theysay they can not help. The steering issue is know issue on 2018 and 2019;and appears to be on 2020. This need to be resolve before someone dies from this steering issue.
Steering wheel has a lot of play in it and does not stay straight when driving on highway or interstate driving. Dealer said it's normal on the new Jeep.
Driving fully stock at speeds near 60 mph on highways, car seems to want to steer dangerously either right or left & the play in the steering greatly increases & needs some correction to avoid likely collisions.
The Jeep is extremely hard to keep on the road. It is all over the place. Way to much play in the wheel. It is very challenging to keep the Jeep on the right if the road and between the lines.
2020 jl Wrangler unlimited. Stock Wrangler without modifications with less than 1K miles, in shop 3 times for same issue. The Jeep has excessive steering over 3 inches of play in steering wheel before tires move. The steering also wanders all over the lane and extremely difficult to keep in lane with hands at 10 and 2 on steering wheel. My Jeep also has a steering box that separates from frame when turning wheel. There is an aftermarket company who claims to have fixed the box separation issue. They have sold thousands of units and have thousands on backorder. You have to ask why is this such a niche fix for glaring factory issue. My steering box was replaced and fox 2.0 steering stabilizer was tried and failed to fix. The dealers are helpless not hopeless. The dealers know its an issue and want to fix and Jeep is aware of issue based on number of complaints on this site as well as internet forums. I think the issue is Jeep knows it's a real problem and clueless on how to address without massive recall. Hello class action attorneys. We need you!! the NHTSA has limited muscle to handle issues with fca. This needs litigation before someone dies.
The Jeep wanders on road right to left can't keep it in a straight line I have owned a 2013 jk Wrangler an it didn't drive like the 2020 faster you go the worst it gets can't get next to 18 wheeler it will push you in other lane before you blink an eye.
Vehicle wanders when driving down paved roads. Steering wheel has to be moved an excessive amount to keep vehicle within the lane. This could cause the vehicle to wander into another vehicle's lane and cause an accident. This happens on city streets and highways when trying to stay in lane. Exhaustive to the driver during long trips.
I bought the 2020 Jeep Wrangler rubicon ecodiesel a month ago and from day 1 the minute I went on the freeway and drove above 55mph the car started to wander from side to side, I call this "steering wheel wondering" it is very difficult to keep the car straight and requires constant feedback to the wheel. I took it to the dealer and initiated a case with fca, the dealer drove test and told me that this is how Jeep drives and yes I need to constantly provide feedback to the wheel. From fca I am waiting for a resolution. For $70,000 I expected a car that will drive normally, this is very dangerous and I am afraid to put my family in the car.
I just bought the Jeep and going home on highway at speed of 50-60. Jeep was going left and right (wobbling) and steering was little shaky. I thought it may be wind and hold on to steering careful. My wife was following me in different car and she noticed that too. Why I am going left and right but still stayed in lane. After coming home I did google search I see many reference of "death wobble". I see Jeep knows this issue and it is really sad to see this issue in 2020. I may return this vehicle. I am still under 250 miles / 5 day return period. I will talk to dealer in the morning. Please investigate and do the right thing. I can't imagine my daughter behind the shaking steering. It is so dangerous. Please fix it.
Driving at all speeds vehicle constantly wonders from left to right sometimes when correcting from one direction to the other it will put you in the other lane. Very dangerous when on two lane or uneven road against oncoming traffic. Took back to dealer twice replaced gear box did not help. Bought Jeep for my wife but she won't drive it says it makes her feel unsafe I agree with her you think for 55,000 you could drive your vehicle down the road in a relaxing state.
Took to dealership today because me and 2 other people have felt a lot a play in the steering. They checked it and said there was not a problem. This is my 3rd Jeep and the other 2 never drove like this one! please fix this problem before someone dies! I'm waiting to get pulled over because someone might think I'm intoxicated. Can't keep it in a straight line. Help!!!'
I purchased my new Jeep Wrangler 2020 unlimited just over a month ago. I have noticed that, when driving at speeds above 40mph, the car is very difficult to handle and the car, as well as the steering wheel, wander all over the place. When driving on a highway, I fear for my life as the car wanders around the lane and much worse if there is a slight wind current that hits. It is very unstable and very unsafe. I have taken this to my Jeep dealer and they insist that it is normal compared to other Wrangler they have tested on their lot. This is a very ignorant response as it does not solve my specific problem. I fear that this will cause a huge accident one day on the roads and believe there is a fix for this problem but the dealer does not wish to fix or repair the issue. I appreciate any help with this.
I am unable to maintain my lane at all while driving this vehicle. It can be concerning to drive like this especially on the interstate. If you get to close to the edge of the road on non interstate roads it will pull you straight off the road.
I've had the vehicle for a little over two weeks and the vehicle wanders dangerously at highway speeds due to the slop in the steering. It also locks when taking a tighter turn from a starting position and I have to force it back to center.
