My 2018 Jeep jl has what's called the 'death wobble'. at highway speeds, when going over a spontaneous rough roadway, the front end starts to wobble side to side uncontrollably. Only hard breaking brings it under control. This is traveling at approx. 70mph. This Jeep had less than 500 miles on it when it happened the first time.

Jeep was recalled in October over a track bar weld issue where some vehicles we improperly welded. Mine had to go to the dealer 3X as the dealer was unsure what to do. Was told it was fine. Just received another recall that the recall may not have been done properly and will need to be reinspected. I have 0 faith in the safety of this Jeep.

The Jeep Wrangler has on multiple occasions had a "death wobble." The vehicle's steering system starts to shake violently at higher speeds. This is a brand new vehicle with no modifications and has already been taken to the dealership to address. They unfortunately have not been able to correct it. This is a dangerous occurrence and a recall should be issued soon so the violent shaking at high speeds is frightening.

When driving on any type of road, the Jeep wanders all over the lane and takes constant steering wheel input to maintain the vehicle in its lane. The faster the speed above 30, the worse the condition is. There seems to be a lot of play in the steering wheel at normal speeds almost like it is not connected. It is very tiring to drive on the expressway because it needs constant course correction. Several times it has wandered off of a road shoulder on its own. We have had over 17 vehicles over the years and this is the only one that behaves this way. At times it feels very, very unsafe, scary and tiring to drive. Just feels like something is extremely wrong with the steering and it is not trustworthy and may cause an accident.

I have have the steering violently oscillate / wobble dozens of times since early December 2018. This always happens on the highway above 50mph after going over a bump or imperfection on the pavement. Every time this has happened, I have taken the vehicle to the Jeep dealer to be inspected. On December 17th 2018 branhaven Jeep replaced the steering damper. It seem to work for a while and it came back in January. I took the vehicle back to branhaven Jeep and they said that they had replaced the steering damper again with un upgrade part from Jeep. I drove the vehicle for about 200 miles over the weekend and on the return trip, the issue was back and this time it was worse than ever. This is now the third time the vehicle is in the shop to deal with the same steering wobble complaint. I feel the vehicle is unsafe to drive and my girlfriend refuses to drive it anymore. The last time I drove the vehicle was January 21 2018 0N the day I had the worst steering wobble or oscillation I have ever experienced. I do not belive Jeep / fca has a solution and wobble events are not due to worn parts as this is a new vehicle that just crossed over 5000 miles. My Jeep is totally stock and has had no modifications of any kind!

When driving at 60 mph on highway, and crossing over a bridge, the front of the Jeep, and steering wheel started shaking very badly. It seemed like the front end was going to fall apart. I had to slow down to about 35 mph for it to stop. The roads were clear, but it was below freezing out.

The steering is very loose especially at highway speeds. I constantly need to correct my steering to stay in my lane. I can move my steering wheel about 2" either left or right without any response. I have deflated my tires to 34psi and I have replaced the steering stabilizer with an after market one trying to resolve this issue. I have 6K miles on it and it has done this from day 1. I mentioned this to my dealer and they said "its a Jeep thing, that's the way they drive". well I have owned 2 other Jeep before and they did not handle like this. This makes it very fatiguing to drive for long distances.

Jeep steering wheel and front end begin shaking violently when a small bump is struck at higher speeds. This forces the driver to slow to unsafe speeds on the freeway potentially creating accidents.. Jeep currently will not correct the problem, but only allows the dealership to replace the steering damper, which fails within the same week.

Wrangler

  • 10,200 miles
Driving down the highway this morning to work, entering a curve on the highway I nearly lost all ability to steer my Jeep at 60mph. I had to tug on the wheel with both hands to keep it on the highway. The steering came back after about 30 seconds almost resulting in an over correction. Then about 10 minutes later it happened again this time I was on a much straighter piece of road thankfully. The rest of my 30 min drive to work was uneventful. I've called two dealerships and been in touch with the Jeep wave program representatives. They are saying they can't look at it for days. My car is unsafe to drive at highways speeds and its up to me to just wait until they can look at it.

Bought my Jeep 2018 Wrangler brand new, had issued with the steering become very hard to turn was barely turning on a corner street. Literally impossible to make a right turn, all of a sudden it just became easy to turn as if nothing was wrong. Also a service shifter light and the stability controll light comes on every now and then, now the issue is the screen is displaying an anti theft screen asking for a theft code and Jeep will not turn on.

It has happened a few times during very cold temperatures and high speeds where the steering wheel locks and its very hard switching lanes. I do not feel it in city driving. I have driven it on the highway when this has happened and the problems persists for about the first 30 minutes of the drive. After 30 minutes of driving it goes back to normal. I has not happened in temperatures over 35 degrees

Experiencing 'death wobble' at high speeds when hitting bump in road. Jeep shakes violently. One time I had to come to a complete stop. Seems as if something is loose with the steering or suspension isn't up to par.

I am experiencing "death wobble". I have had 3 instances of it in the last week. It shook so bad yesterday it cracked the windshield. It starts when hitting a bump at highway speeds and won't strop until you can slow down to around 40 mph. This is very difficult in high congestion traffic.

Jeep Wrangler 2018 jl with 1010 miles and 5 weeks old. Steering is very loose when driving at any speed, but say at 60, I can move the steering wheel at least 2 inches from right to left before the steering responds. It takes constant corrections to keep the vehicle in your lane. We live in a mountainous area with narrow windy roads and many large trucks (logging trucks etc). Its extremely dangerous to drive these roads with the vehicle because your constantly correcting to stay in your lane. I've had it to the dealer, they've acknowledged the issue, but their telling me they drove another Jeep just like mine and it does the same thing so they don't know what to do. They and I are contacting Jeep. At this time I won't let me wife or kids drive the vehicle, and it's pretty much parked in the garage until this issue is resolved.

In cold weather the steering locks while driving. I am able to turn the steering wheel about 1/2 an inch and that is it. The issue lasted for 6 miles while I was in traveling in Montana. I was driving below 25 mph on paved and gravel roads. The temperature was below 35 degrees. I love in California and the weather have not been that cold so I hasn't occurred since then. Unfortunately I do not have a video, I was too concentrated on not crashing.
