this is the THIRD time I've had to replace a window regulator on this car. that is ridiculous. I love my Jeep, but I will NEVER buy another Chrysler product as they refuse to recognize that this is and will continue to be a problem.

Although my vehicle is 5yrs old the windows have been actuated only 10-20 times. Within a week of each other both rear windows slipped down and are now staying up by the use of tape and a wedge. Neither regulator will work and I'm told the cost to repair will exceed $400. I have been a multiple Jeep owner for many years but I've had enough. The chances of me purchasing another Jeep/Chrysler vehicle falls between zero and no chance. Why won't Jeep step up to the plate and admit they have a problem and regain some customer loyalty??

Driver's side rear window fell down on it's own. Fortunately, the glass did not break or repair would have been much more. Jeep dealer offered no options except for me to pay the $325 to have entire regulator fixed. Part that broke was a small plastic piece. Dealer replaced with same faulty regulator which has NOW BROKEN AGAIN on 11/03/10. This is an on-going problem with this vehicle as I have also had the same problem with the right front window at a repair cost of $381.00.

JEEP has an ISSUE with their window regulators that needs addressed. On 03/26/08 it was the left rear window at a cost of $325.00 to fix because it wasn't under warranty. Then on 12/16/09 it was the right front window-SAME PROBLEM! Took it to a different dealer and they acknowledge it's an on-going problem...but...said they are now using a different fix and of course the price went up...now the fix was $381.00 out of MY POCKET. Total so far...$700. 2 windows "fixed" and 2 more to go!

NOW I'M PISSED!!! This is the 3rd time-YES THE 3RD TIME- a window regulator in my 2005 Jeef Liberty has broken and this regulator was already "FIXED" by the dealer on 03/26/08. A stupid little plastic part buried amidst the metal workings of the regulator continues to fail. Imagine that-let's continue to use the same regulator when it obviously doesn't work! Jeep need to RECALL these and find a real solution. I have never owned any vehicle that has ever had 1 window regulator fail let alone 3 in the same vehicle in a 2 year period and I don't even use the back window. No snot nosed children playing with it. I never even use the back window. It's probably only been rolled down less than 6 times since I bought the jeep in 2005. It is NOT a cheap fix. I have already spent over $700 for the first two "fixes" and I'm doomed to spend another $380+ bucks for this 3rd one. I'm thinking of taking the advice of another Jeep victim and using a 3 cent zip tie to permanently secure it in the up position. I can get a helluvalot of zip ties for $380!!!

We'll see what the Chrysler case manager has to say when (if) they return my complaint call tomorrow....................

Update from May 17, 2011: After this 3rd window regulator broke, I filed a complaint with Chrysler. They said it was a vendor issue and there was no recall in effect. I was given a case number & had to jump through hoops but it finally paid off. I was told I would need a diagnosis from an authorized dealer (at my expense) before they could offer me "good will assistance". I had to send in copies of receipts (several times). I sent things certified to prove they were received by Chrysler and I had to make lots of calls and stay on it. Chrysler finally agreed to cover the cost of my 3rd window regulator replacement at 100%. They also sent me a reimbursement check for $606.90 for the 1st two windows that I had already paid to repair. This was $100.00 less than the actual repair costs, but they said it was minus a "deductable". Like I said, I had to stay on them, but it finally paid off in that I'm only out $100 and not $1000. Still not happy that Chrysler hasn't stepped up with a recall on this but I will continue to fight for them to pay for any future regulator issues. Good Luck!!!

I have replaced the window regulator for every window in my 2005 Jeep Liberty. Now the back passenger is broken a second time, causing the window to fall into the window well of the door.

After replacing these I've complained to my dealer and asked if a recall was going to happen. Their answer was anything but helpful. They just side stepped the question, telling me they know they're a problem but basically tough crap. Now that my warranty is out, this is going to be costly. It was 100 bucks each time before, and lord knows what they're going to hit me with this time.

It's a 2005 with 16k miles. It's a cream puff, and I barely ever use the rear windows at all. I'll never buy another Jeep again.

i bought my 2005 jeep liberty renegade brand new and i have had to have the same window regulator replaced 5 times. low and behold it is now broke agian for the 6th time .i got the first 4 replacements done while it was under warranty and the 5th i called chrysler and they good willed it , of coarse they did try to get me to pay part of it after some necessary prompting they paid in full. now here we are again 6th time same window and i have the call in and a claim open but before they will tell me what they will do i have to go get a the dealership to check it out and say , Yes its the window regulator." for real.....as if i don't know what the heck it is ...time number 6 same window. wow ...they need to issue a recall and fix the problem before they lose yet another jeep customer. and my husband also owns a jeep....thank god its not a liberty.

The Problem is that this was not the first problem with this car. This year alone we had to fix the "Radiator", "the air conditioning", The Electricals, that kept making the car stall all the time, and the gearbox, which we thought was the final straw - now this!

We have two Jeep Libertys in the family - ours is a 2005, our daughter's is a 2004. Both have had the back driver's side rear window regulators break. This means that not only will the window not function for up and down (which we could live with) but that the windows fall down and won't stay up. We had ours fixed in June '09 - Chrysler (obviously knowing there is a problem) covered the part even though the vechicle was out of warranty. That still left us with $220 in labor to replace what Chrysler knows is a junk part, but for which they will not do a recall.

The same window in the same Liberty broke again less than one year later. Chrysler will help to fix again, but subject to a $75 deductible this time. They basically put it to me that they are under no obligation to do anything and subtly implied that we should therefore be grateful for any assistance at all. To my way of thinking, this back-seat window in a childless vechicle gets no use at all and therefore would not be breaking but for a defective part. Talking to others and researching sites like this confirm that others are having problems, supporting the defect theory.

My daughter has her 2004 Liberty window held up with tape and has opted not to fix it even with assistance from Chrysler if a deductible is required. She feels that based on our experience, it will just break again so why put out the money. She'll just live with a taped window and a little Chrysler review to give whenever anyone asks. (By the way, it's not convenient to take a car to the dealership and wait 2 hours for the diagnosis Chrysler requires, then back again later for the needed repair - times 2 cars in our case.)

Chrysler, if you're listening, when you know you've got a defective part, a recall is the right thing to do. Too expensive? At least fix the ones that are broken so the customer is not out-of-pocket for anything. Don't want to do that either? We understand - that's what it's come to in Corporate America. That Town and Country was looking pretty good as our next vehicle, but knowing how you operate, I won't ever buy another Chrysler.

Update from Oct 19, 2010: For whatever reason, when we took our vehicle in, the dealership said that Chrysler had called to waive the $75 deductible they had told me we'd have to pay. Don't know what prompted this, but it was a pleasant surprise. Perhaps Chrysler did some more research after speaking with me and realized we had paid for labor on the first repair.

Research shows this is a know defect in the Jeep Liberty often requiring multiple and expensive replacements. Chrysler should make this a recall and replace the cheap plasic version of the regulator with the metal version. My Jeep is a 2005 with only 9,032 miles and already the window is starting to malfunction. I'm 63 years old and have no mechanic skills yet I face the prospect of a complete window failure in our snowy winters. I purchased a Jeep to carry me through retirement based on what I thought was a good reputation for reliability. If I had known then what I know now I would have never purchased a Jeep. I can't afford another vehicle so I'm stuck with this piece of crap.

Replaced the left rear window regulator in my 2005 Jeep Liberty last year and the exact same one just broke again! You talk to other Jeep owners on the net, dealer parts reps, and dealer repair techs, and it's obvious Chrysler knows there is an ongoing issue with the cheap plastic guides on the assembly. A cheap little two dollar plastic guide breaks and they want you to buy the $170 assembly each time, plus charge you $200 labor. And, they sell you the same defective part again. I was amazed to see how widespread this complaint is with Liberty and Cherokee owners and that there has been no recall. Chrysler's customer service at corporate has no sense or urgency or concern and seems to want to make you jump through hoops to get anywhere. Sad to say most large corporations have become this way.

Apparently the window regulator issue is with several Jeep year models - I've read several complaints online for the 2006 as well. I bought my jeep 2 years ago and have replaced 3 window regulators - most recently 1 for the second time. The Jeep dealership is where I purchased the vehicle is placing the onus of responsibility on Chrysler and Chrysler is "noting all complaints but at this time is not considering a recall because they don't consider it a safety issue."

Chrysler knows the regulators are faulty and consumers are paying to have them replaced with faulty product so it is only a matter of time before they break again. Not all local dealerships are standing behind their sale and Chrysler Corporation is obviously not concerned with quality control, integrity or customer satisfaction. If they don't want to issue a recall, they should at the very least fix the mechanical problem and replace them at no charge when they are brought in! I would think Chrysler would be more concerned with customer satisfaction and public opinion given the state of today's economy.

I am aggressively warning others about Jeep's poor manufacturing standards and Chrysler's lack of concern for its customers. This is my first and last Jeep!!

I also have the problem with the back driver's side window. My daughter put it down and heard aloud noise and when she tried to put the window back it doesn't work. After taking the door apart, I saw that it had broke. Now I have a friggin piece of board in the door that rattles just to hold up the window. I am on disabilty and can't afford to get these problem fixed. There needs to be a recall and get these fixed especially with so many people having these problem. It's ashame that people have to pay so much for a nice vechile and it break only after 2 years. Chrysler FIX THE WINDOW!!!!!!!

OK, my extended warranty has run out and now my fourth (yes I said fourth) and final window regulator on the rear passenger side has failed. Currently I have a gorgeous and trendy garbage bag attached to the outside of the window. I thoroughly enjoy listening the the thwapping sound it makes as I go over 35 miles an hour. I will be visiting the dealer once again for the final window repair to the tune of $400 (or possibly more if the window has to be replaced). Another day wasted without my vehicle. Those of you who are on the first get ready for three more. The other three were repaired under extended warranty but I had to pay $100 deductible for each one because the dealer did not want to replace it until it failed. This is a recall if I ever saw one!

My name is Travis and I work for a small used car lot in Daytona Beach, FL. My boss recently purchased an 06 Jeep Liberty Sport and asked me to look at the driver's side window regulator. Well, when I got in the Liberty, 3 of the 4 windows were not working. So I made some phone calls to find the part. No one had it but the dealer and they wanted us to change the regulator and the glass. Cost on these for us was well over $200 a piece. (We were quoted a different price for all three!) Paying $600+ plus labor was out of the question. I pulled one of the regulators out and we looked at it for a couple hours. With the help of a local hardware store salesperson, we have come up with a solution to replace the plastic piece that holds the cable of the regulator to the clip that goes on the window glass. This fix will work for all year models from 2002-2007. We charge $100 for the fix because it is labor intensive. It sure beats paying an outrageous price to the dealer and it is a solution that will last much longer because of quality parts. If you would like yours fixed properly, call us at 386-255-5503 and ask for Travis.

Well, My vehicles rear drivers power window did'nt work. i took it to a couple of shops to have a look. Their cost was $40.00 just to look at it than extra for problem. I was disappointed to hear a charge just to look at it plus labor and parts, I left and now my door would not lock and you cannot exit from that side anymore. I had enough and took it apart my self easiest thing to do just unscrew to screws and pull the side off take speaker out and peel cover off there I found that the window regulator was causing all my grief. since it was broken it made the door and lock stick.....Junk yards carry it for 25.00 dollars dealer price 217.10 and you do the labor. i think this is the cheapest solution. I will try to get pictures soon.

I have a 2003 Liberty, 2 wheel drive, 3.6L, now at 107,000. Never a problem (yet).

Also have a 2005, 2 wheel drive, 3.6L, now at 70,000. Left rear window fell last night. In reading up on the prolem i find it is "expected" of a Jeep. I have two so that's 8 windows potentially. Ran across a website that has a metal replacement for the little plastic part that breaks. Haven't ordered one yet, it's $90. Site has excellent instructions with pictures. www.steigerperformance.com.

The window regulator has gone out in my 2005 Jeep Liberty twice in the last 18 months and it is with the same window! The left back window regulator has gone out, I paid $350 to get it replaced (parts & labor), and the Jeep Dealership gave me a free bonus - the child guard is permanently engaged with no way to disengage. This window is rarely used and now 20,000 miles & 18 months later, the same window regulator has gone out.

Now I have to pay $400 to get it fixed again! Do I have a case under the lemon law or Jeep recall?
