The drivers side headrest retaining mechanism failed while we were driving down the road. It was a violent event, that hit me in the back of the head when it happened. This could really cause someone to lose control of their vehicle. We were on a surface street and thankfully not on the freeway. We had just filled up with gas and had just turned right onto the road, maybe went 100 yards and that is when it blew. We had just driven about 150 miles prior to getting gas.

While driving on the turnpike, the passenger headrest deployed with my son sitting in the seat. There was absolutely no reason for why. It was an insane shock to the back of his head.

Driving down the road the passenger headrest just popped off with no rear end collision. This should be a recall as this has many people with the same issue.

Grand Cherokee

My drivers side headrest deployed and the plastic parts are broken so it won't go back into place. I wasn't in an accident. This happened while I was driving the car and it hit me in the head when it deployed.

problem #135

Mar 082021

Grand Cherokee

  • 90,000 miles
Driver's side headrest popped open and will not latch back in place. Was not driving at the time but this could have been dangerous had it popped opened during vehicle operation. Vehicle was parked in my garage and I was in the garage and heard a loud noise, did not know what it was at the time, but I thought it came from the car. So I opened car door and looked around inside car but did not see an obvious reason for the noise. The next morning when I got in the car, I noticed the headrest was touching the back of my head uncomfortably so I turned around and that is when I noticed that it was popped out. Tried to close and secure it back in place but it will not stay. I am now driving around with it popped open.

The passenger side headrest deployed. The vehicle was sitting still. I did receive a letter for a recall. I misplaced the letter. Can I get another so when I take it to the dealer I can present it to them so they know what is going on. Thank you.

problem #132

Grand Cherokee

  • 52,000 miles
My wife and I were driving down the road in a neighborhood and her body just shot forward like somebody shoved her from behind. The headrest shot out of place and hit her in the back of the head forcing her forward. She had some neck pain for a little bit but nothing serious. Thankfully it was the passenger seat and not the driver seat. I couldn't even imagine if one of us were driving on the highway and having this happen to the driver.

problem #131

Feb 012021

Grand Cherokee

  • 98,100 miles
The headrest on my 2015 Jeep Cherokee inadvertently deployed on the passenger side. Inspection of the headrest shows the plastic bracket holding the metal pin is broken and yet the holding clamp is not released. The headrest cannot be reset. The vehicle was stationary when this occurred. I am very concerned after reading other incidents where this can occur on the driver side as well while the car is in motion. You need to something about this before someone, like me, gets killed.

problem #126

Nov 102020

Grand Cherokee

  • 51,000 miles
I thought somehow I broke my headrest and didn't realize. But when I went to look it up and to my surprise I see hundreds of people with he same exact issue. Car was not moving and was parked behind my business, came back to the headrest deployed. Surprised Jeep hasn't recalled this yet seems like a major issue, can't even imagine if someone was sitting and it exploded.

problem #125

Oct 222020

Grand Cherokee

  • 79,000 miles
The seat rest popped opened and it cannot be pushed backed together. I was parked at the time when the incident occurred. Both seat belt locks do not open properly without pushing down the buckle into the lock while pressing on the release button at the same time. This has been ongoing for a couple of years.

problem #124

Nov 042020

Grand Cherokee

  • 160,841 miles
Shortly after I turned right, while leaving a parking lot at low speed, out of the blue I was forcefully hit in the back of my head. I pulled over in confusion to assess what had happened. There were no flying objects in the car, nor other cars behind me, as I briefly wondered if I had been rear-ended. Upon leaving my vehicle, I immediately saw that the headrest was split open, and was the cause of the hard smack on the head.

problem #123

Nov 012020

Grand Cherokee

  • 83,000 miles
The driver's side headrest popped open for no reason. There had been no collision. On inspection of the release mechanism it's apparent that the plastic piece, retaining a pin, broke and caused the headrest to release and pop forward. The vehicle was stationary (parked in parking lot) when this happened. Had someone been driving this would have caused an injury.

problem #122

Oct 232020

Grand Cherokee

  • 93,200 miles
I was driving on a highway at approximately 5 mph. I was in a line of traffic and we were nearing a stop sign when I heard a very loud noise and felt something hit the back of my head, thrusting my head forward. I initially thought I had been rear ended by another vehicle, but then I discovered that my headrest had spontaneously deployed. The headrest is unable to be reset because the plastic pieces that keep it together are broken, which appears to be why it spontaneously deployed.

problem #121

Oct 222020

Grand Cherokee

  • 80,000 miles
While sitting completely still at a red light on a city street, my Jeep Grand Cherokee headrest popped. My head was pushed forward and a loud popping sound occurred. I pulled over to assess what exactly happened and noted that the headrest had sprung upwards and forward. Further visual assessment revealed that two plastic pieces appeared to have exploded for no reason.
