CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee shows an early trend of transmission complaints. Most of the complaints are for rough shifting — things like jerking & hesitation when shifting gears.
The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee also has the same transmission issues.

About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Driver headrest exploded into the back of my head while I was driving on a two-lane road (Hopper in Santa Rosa CA). Impact caused me to lose consciousness for several seconds, and I woke up on the wrong side of the road still in motion with my 6 year old daughter in the back booster seat. This problem is reflected in NHTSA online literature, a certified class-action suit, and online notices about potential recall. Headrest is being replaced for free but the Jeep dealer didn't have any in stock and there is no timeline to get it fixed. Currently working with Kaiser Permanente insurance plan and medical staff to help with neck, head, and back pain, and continuing dizziness on and off every day since the incident.
I was driving the vehicle when my drivers headrest popped and hit the back of my head. I pulled over to see what happened and it looks as though the headrest exploded but nothing came out. I-??m not sure if an airbag was supposed to deploy but it did not. Luckily because my son was in the back seat, not sure if air bag was suppose to deploy or not. I did not hit anything when it happened and I was just driving. Consumer has notified the dealer to get it repaired.
Headrest deployed without warning. Have read online that this is a very common problem with an expensive fix. Luckily no one was sitting in seat when it deployed or could have caused injuries. If it happens to drivers seat while driving this could be a very dangerous situation.
The front passenger seat headrest safety mechanism malfunctioned causing it to deploy. This caused a severe head injury to the passenger. Major concern of the driver seat headrest having the same problem and potentially causing an accident. There were no warning signs prior to the incident.
We were entering the vehicle, as I was getting into the drivers seat there was a terrible noise beside my right ear and pressure on my head. At the same time my grandson was entering in the rear seat behind me and was hit in left ear area with an exploding Active headrest restraint. The car had been remotely started but was not actually running yet and was in park with nothing behind it. I had no idea of this potential hazard, we drive long distances with grandchildren in the rear seat and if this would have or if the passenger headrest explodes while driving, it could be catastrophic. This is not acceptable. They should be replaced immediately, not wait until they actually cause a catastrophy !!!! I would rather not be in constant fear of the next explosion in my car which could have far worse results.
An inadvertent deployment of the active headrest in the front passenger seat. Plastic holding clips broken, seems due to material or manufacturer defect.
The passenger side headrest exploded open for no reason and cannot be put back. I looks like the mechanism failed and it deployed open with a lot of force. Looking online seems to confirm this is an issue.
I was sitting in the passenger seat in my driveway with the vehicle off getting ready for my family to go to the store. The passenger head rest busted open causing my head and body to jerk forward.
The drivers side headrest retaining mechanism failed while we were driving down the road. It was a violent event, that hit me in the back of the head when it happened. This could really cause someone to lose control of their vehicle. We were on a surface street and thankfully not on the freeway. We had just filled up with gas and had just turned right onto the road, maybe went 100 yards and that is when it blew. We had just driven about 150 miles prior to getting gas.
I was parked waiting for a delivery when suddenly I hear a loud pop, the head rest popped out of the socket. No accident caused it. Only the driver side was deployed. This happen in a shopping place parking lot. Vehicle was stationary.
While driving on the turnpike, the passenger headrest deployed with my son sitting in the seat. There was absolutely no reason for why. It was an insane shock to the back of his head.
Driving down the road the passenger headrest just popped off with no rear end collision. This should be a recall as this has many people with the same issue.
My drivers side headrest deployed and the plastic parts are broken so it won't go back into place. I wasn't in an accident. This happened while I was driving the car and it hit me in the head when it deployed.
Driver's side headrest popped open and will not latch back in place. Was not driving at the time but this could have been dangerous had it popped opened during vehicle operation. Vehicle was parked in my garage and I was in the garage and heard a loud noise, did not know what it was at the time, but I thought it came from the car. So I opened car door and looked around inside car but did not see an obvious reason for the noise. The next morning when I got in the car, I noticed the headrest was touching the back of my head uncomfortably so I turned around and that is when I noticed that it was popped out. Tried to close and secure it back in place but it will not stay. I am now driving around with it popped open.
The passenger side headrest deployed. The vehicle was sitting still. I did receive a letter for a recall. I misplaced the letter. Can I get another so when I take it to the dealer I can present it to them so they know what is going on. Thank you.
