About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Vehicle was parked not moving. Off. Next time we entered vehicle the passenger headrest automatic restraint pin broke..not pin but bracket holding pin sheared off. Luckily no one was in car when happened.. New headrest cost 400$..labor 150$. No accident how does this go off??
While driving on neighborhood roads, the driver's headrest suddenly popped forward without warning or reason. My head was slammed forward and I lost control of the vehicle. If this had occurred at highway speeds there is a very high probability that I would have crashed the vehicle. As it stands I have a lot of neck pain from strained muscles in the back of my neck.
The head rest of the driver deployed unexpectedly while me and my son were in the car on our way to school. It made a very loud noise and we were trying to figure out what it was, it was scary and dangerous.
The passenger headrest has came apart for no reason. The jeep has not been involved in any type of accident. Since there is not a recall the dealerships will not replace this even though there are many complaints about it.
Drivers side head rest deployed without incident while driving at 70mph on interstate striking driver in the back of the head. Appears plastic pieces in head rest restraint system failed spontaneously.
The passenger side headrest deployed. At the time it happened, thank goodness my Mother was not in the vehicle. It has been inspected by the dealership. There were no warning signs. Not happy the driver side headrest won't be replaced at the same time. I was told it had to deploy first. Then replaced.
While my daughter was driving, the driver's side headrest airbag deployed unexpectedly. This happened while driving down the road, at 65 mph, fortunately it did not cause a wreck. It has already happened on passenger side as well.
The driver's side active head restraint deployed on its own without any sort of collision. Upon further inspection, the plastic which holds a metal rod failed. The rod was still inside of the jaws of the small module which appears to open upon an impact, allowing the AHR to deploy. Upon further research, this is a known issue with similar vehicles. I've since attempted to temporarily repair the thing since we leave for vacation in 2 days and I don't want to drive 2000 miles with the AHR in the deployed position.
The passenger side headrest deployed without being triggered. Passenger was in the seat at the time the headrest deployed. The plastic inside the headrest broke during deployment or before and headrest will not reseat.
In May 2021, the headrest on the passenger side of the car was noticed to be partially 'popped out' one afternoon. The next morning, after being parked all night, the headrest was fully popped out. There was no damage to the car prior and no accident whatsoever. This active headrest could have popped out while a passenger was in the car and hurt someone. The driver side has not popped out (yet) but now i'm concerned it could deploy while i'm driving. I have not taken the vehicle to the dealer/manufacturer yet, as the car is being driven very little over the past 18 months (covid, work from home, etc). There were no symptoms prior to failure, no accidents, no damage to the vehicle.
I had just started driving down the road from work when I felt a jolt in the middle of the drivers seat and a bang. So pulled into a parking lot and stopped to see what happened. I was looking around not sure what was going on with my car when I noticed the headrest on the drivers seat had popped open
