Went to start my car today, and there was a long crank but the car did not turn on. This happened 2 more times. Finally, the third time during the long crank, I stepped on the accelerator and the engine finally turned on. During the whole thing, the dashboard was on, lights were on, and radio was on - so it was not a battery issue. There was no warnings on my dashboard and no lights turned on afterwards - as if everything was fine. I am worried because I have read multiple listings regarding cars stalling while in drive, or worsening of these symptoms. I know there has been a tpim recall contributing to faulty stalling - but 2014 model was not covered under the recall. If my car symptoms become progressively worse - I am afraid that my car will shut off while I am driving - placing me and others on the road in high risk for danger.

While I was idling in a parking lot a coolant hose to my turbo split. This hose ( the size of your thumb) is under the intake manifold and is not accessible to check and maintain. Seeing that this hose is a few inches from the turbo and even closer to the right engine bank, the heat is extreme. The hose is a rubber hose not unlike a lawn mower gas hose. If it wasn't for the smell of hot coolant and being stationary, the engine would of lost it's coolant without any signs. The maintenance portion of the owners manual assumes we can see and get at all coolant hoses. The turbo hose should last longer than the coolant that in it, on mine it was approximately 82,000 miles. A steel braded hose would be more appropriate in this location. Attached is the portion of the owners manual and a picture of the new hose in place. To replace this hose the dealer had to drop the engine out of the truck and it took over 10 weeks to get it back.

Failure of a heater hose while driving caused excessive overheating which led to engine failure. Dealer says that my extended warranty does not cover hoses therefore the cost of replacing the diesel engine is my responsibility. The cost is nearly $17,000. I would like an investigation into why the hose failed. Was it due to damage caused during previous engine work?

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving between 5-15 mph, the vehicle stalled and lost power without warning. The contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated after a beeping noise was heard inside the vehicle. The contact stated that the failures were intermittent and that the vehicle returned to normal, in most cases, after a period of time. Duane lane's Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram (10515 evergreen way, everett, Washington 98204, (425) 953-1295) diagnosed that the surge canister underneath the hood was faulty due to an evaporation leak. The surge canister was replaced, but the failures recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee srt. In the last year and a half, I have had to have the transfer case & rear end replaced. This is just uncalled for on a 4 year old car. It is currently sitting at the dealership (has been there for a week so far) to have the lifters/cam replaced. The parts from Chrysler are so far on back order there's no hope of getting them. The aftermarket parts are also on back order. Those 2 things tell me that this is a widespread malfunction with this engine & seems to me to be a design flaw.

Constant cylinder 6 misfire. All 6 spark plugs have been replaced. Coil and fuel injector replaced. Still showing cylinder 6 misfire. Seen cylinder head being replaced on years 2011-2013 but not for a 2014. This should be covered. When the check engine light came on, it had seizure like convulsions when coming to a stop and while in idle until spark plugs were replaced. Still running rough, very shaking like it is going to stall out.

Call stalled due to the failure of the alternator, which was subject to recall. The dealership refused to schedule an appointment, so I just dropped my car off at the dealership per Chrysler Corp. The dealership replaced the defective alternator and found that the battery needed to be replaced at a charge of 350 dollars. I informed the dealership that the message center on the car indicated that the car was entering "batter saver mode" as it shutdown. The manual for the vehicle indicates that the vehicle enters this mode when the battery is not being charged, the primary function of the alternator. I requested that the dealership replace the battery as its depletion was due to a faulty alternator, they declined. They stated that although the alternator was faulty it did not do any damage to the battery.

This incident regards the T-36 recall issued by Fiat/Chrysler, which involves 2012-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee (among others), and "affects vehicles equipped with electro-hydraulic power steering systems, 5.7L or 3.6L engines, and 160, 180, or 220 amp alternators. In those vehicles, NHTSA says that the alternator may fail without warning." During June 2018, my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee (summit trim), experienced sudden alternator failure while in motion on a highway. The alternator started to smoke, and by the time I had reached my destination, there was grey smoke barreling out of the hood of my car and the battery was completely dead. The Jeep had to be towed to a nearby dealership for repairs. In addition to the alternator and battery replacment, the tensioner, idler and serpentine belt had to be replaced due to undue strain placed on them by the alternator failure. The incident that occurred matches the description of the T-36 recall. Additionally, the year, make, engine size, and amperage of the alternator all match the description given in the T-36 recall. However, the VIN number for my particular Jeep did not appear under the recall, and therefore, Jeep/Chrysler would not repair my Jeep under that particular recall. They did fix the Jeep, but at my cost (the owner). I 100% believe this an oversight by Jeep/Chrysler (or maybe NHTSA) and should be remedied immediately. I do believe there are other Jeep owners that are unaware of this issue, due to the lack of notification by Jeep/Chrysler, and will experience the same issue, which could cause an accident and lead to injury. Please review the details of my Jeep VIN and why it was not included in the T-36 recall. If this happened to my Jeep, then I imagine it will happen to others. Fortunately, I was not injured, but others could be injured who are unaware of this issue. Please contact me with any questions.

The alternator light came on in the vehicle while driving, then within about 10-15 minutes the radio had no sound although the screen was still lit. Other lights then came on such as the engine light, anti-lock brakes. About 5 minutes later, I had to stop at a stop sign, when taking off again, the car would barely move. It wouldn't go above about 10-15 miles per hour, then it picked up speed but I no longer had power steering. As I pull into a parking lot to get the car off of the road, the wipers turned on (even though the switch was off). When I got into the parking spot, the car could not be put into park due to the power issues. I had to hold my foot on the brake until the engine died. Within 2-3 minutes the engine died. Everything was dead, including the power locks. Then a few minutes later the dash would light saying the ignition or accessory unit was turned on but you couldn't do anything to turn it off. Everything would then turn off again. After sitting for about 30-45 min, the car would start back up but it was not driven anywhere, we had it towed. Both the alternator and battery needed to be replaced which is what caused the issues. The alternator is under a recall for my model/year/engine type but not for my VIN. The recall was due to very similar issues, loss of steering control, loss of power.

Vehicle was in motion, traveling West. Vehicle was being driven at normal interstate speeds. Vehicle began to make a slight jarring sound along with a thumping feeling, as if driving along the knock strips. This was consistently occurring every 7 seconds or so, as if a tire was shredded. Vehicle began to accelerate along with traffic flow. Engine light began illuminating. Engine began to feel lethargic. All digital gauges were indicating normal temps and pressure. No tire warnings. Vehicle began to exhibit smoke smell in vents. Vehicle became harder to accelerate to attempt to alleviate issue, as if stuck in between gears. Vehicle became harder to control. Switched from left lane to far right to reduce speed. Vehicle became more lethargic. As vehicle proceeded up exit ramp to leave interstate, transmission automatically went into neutral. Vehicle was able to coast into gas station parking lot. Vehicle was shut off. Raised hood, and there was a smell similar to rotten eggs, like a natural gas smell. No obvious damage as if it was physical. No belts or hoses appeared loose or hanging. No fluids were visibly leaving engine. No smoke or steam. Attempted to restart vehicle after several minutes to cool engine due to hotter temperatures. Vehicle has push button starter. Vehicle would not start for roughly 15 seconds with brake pedal depressed. Vehicle sounded like it was straining to start. Roadside assistance was notified. Upon arrival, tow truck operator had extreme difficulty starting vehicle. Vehicle had to be forced onto tow truck using cable release in center console. Electrical systems functioned fine. No damage to body or underside upon examination of good samaritans and tow truck operator. Vehicle has roughly 74, xxx miles, of which roughly 45,000 are highway mileage. Vehicle is maintained regularly for oil changes and has had tires rotated and balanced.

After the 3rd periodical maintenance performed at 59.793 km on Nov.2017 the 28th, the vehicle in standstill with the gear engaged switched suddenly off (ecoand drive mode on).pressing the starting button, it restarted and remained ok for a long, but without any alert the switching off happened again and again. Sometimes a cranking lead to fail the ignition.once the shutdown happened also with the vehicle running, not in standstill, with an high risk of accident.so the vhl went to workshop again in dec2017, feb2018 and mar2018 and the results of the workshops (different in these months) was always not trouble found.the problem of turning off in standstill, usually happens at the time of departure at the traffic light, in drive (gear 1),but it happened also in parking mode, with not cold engine and on cluster is reported"low oil pressure" (oil change less than a month ago). I point out that the vehicle is used in the style of mixed driving, every day traveling in the city but also runs daily routes on the highway so I assume that the regeneration of fap takes place correctly. The use of the vehicle is not heavy. The vehicle is always recovered at night in the boxg (the temperature does not fall below 0 degrees) and therefore is not exposed to extreme weather conditions. Please check that there are no recall actions that have not been carried out in consideration of the persistence of the anomaly, I request that the workshop be supported by a second technical level to allow the resolution of the problem and avoid the replacement of unnecessary parts

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle made a squealing and whining noise and there was a burning odor underneath the hood. While driving approximately 35 mph, the ABS, power steering, and brake warning indicators illuminated. Also, the windshield wipers and other components began to malfunction. The contact parked and turned off the vehicle, but it failed to restart. The contact replaced the battery, which caused the vehicle to operate appropriately for a short period of time before the warning indicators illuminated again. The contact checked under the hood and noticed smoke coming from the alternator. The contact stated the alternator and battery failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact called cary autopark Chrysler Jeep (400 auto park blvd, cary, North Carolina 27511, 888-923-9538) and was informed that the alternator and brakes failed. The dealer would not assist because the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 47,800.

68105583af - this is a 2014 specific part which appears to be a problem on many 'pentastar V6' engines from Chrysler. Multiple vehicle models - same engine - same cooler. This housing is made of plastic and exposed to heat while directly on top of the engine- the plastic and its angle relative to the engine lends itself to the lack of durability of the component. Since the cartridge oil filter sits at an angle, pressure is applied at the shoulder causing cracks around the housing during tightening at oil changes. The plastic needs to be made thicker or made out of some different and more durable material. Further, the consumer needs to be notified that this is a real issue and can appear to be coming from the transmission area when in fact it is not. Definitely not safe that an unwitting driver can find themselves out of oil possibly in the middle of nowhere. I am willing to submit photos once I am able to replace this.

The dealer (riverdale Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram, 5869 broadway, bronx, NY 10463, (718) 548-2800) inspected the vehicle and stated that the manufacturer was aware of a known issue with the oil housing filter. The manufacturer had a campaign to replace the seal, which they stated that the contact's vehicle was included in; however, the dealer had not fully inspected the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 46,000.
