CarComplaints.com Notes: The fourth generation Grand Cherokee took the relatively trouble-free run of the 3rd-generation and flipped the script.

From 2010 to 2011, complaints about the vehicle not starting increased 10-fold. In fact, the 2011 model year is riddled with engine problems and a defective TIPM might be to blame. The TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) distributes power to all the eletrical components in the vehicle, so when it starts acting funny so do numerous other components in the car. Orders for new TIPMs were so abundant that parts became scarce, prompting a class-action lawsuit claiming Chrysler ignored this obvious defect.

By 2012 complaints dropped back down by about 80%. Needless to say, if you see a used 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee on a lot just keep walking.

I received a notice of a recall in November of 2019, I have called the NHTSA and my local Jeep service department numerous times and left my name and address/phone number to be notified when the part will be available. I have put myself on a preferred list to be call immediately when it becomes available. I am told again and again that there is no part. This is ridiculous when my car could stall without warning and could increase my risk of a crash. My car continues to run as if it is chugging.

The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that after parking the vehicle in his driveway from a short distance, there was a electrical burning odor coming from the vehicle along with smoke. The contact then discovered that the coolant overflowed to the alternator without warning. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer (vision automotive group located at 920 panorama trail S, rochester, NY 14625) where it was diagnosed that the PCM failed causing the coolant to overheat and replaced the alternator, the drain tube and the battery. The vehicle was repaired. The contact was explained that the engineering of the drain tube for the coolant overflow tank was designed to be directly above the alternator and if the coolant overflows it would come in contact with the electric alternator causing a possible fire. The contact was concerned that if he would have drove a long distance his vehicle would have engulfed in flames. The manufacturer had been informed of failure and suggested the contact call NHTSA and get a service manual. The failure mileage was approximately 127,000.

Fca records indicate that your vehicle VIN # [xxx] was included in previous safety recall P54 (nhtsa14V-530) or safety recall R09 (NHTSA 15V-115). My 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is now experiencing the issues that are discussed in the safety recall V62 fuel pump relay failure. This safety concern can cause the vehicle to not start due to the fuel pump stoppage, an engine stall while stopped and/or while moving, which can cause the vehicle to crash without prior warning. This is a huge safety concern for my family and I. we have taken the vehicle to the dealership on 3 occasions concerning this issue with the fuel pump relay stoppage with no long term fixes. I have no one else to turn to and asking for your help to resolve this issue. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
