This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.

I am going to have to take my Jeep in to the dealer for the fifth time for warped rotors! rotors have warped every 6 months or around 6ooo miles causing severe vibration of the steering wheel and loss of control. Nothing dealer has tried is working(resurfacing and rotor replacement). Please get Jeep to recall and fix problem, otherwise my vehicle is in the shop every six months. Something needs to be done just from looking at the sheer volume of similar complaints. This problem is a hazard when steering shakes so violently it is hard to control. Grand Cherokee owners are pleading for help!
One year after front brake rotor warpage and rotor replacement, front brake rotors are warped again. Current mileage is 41203. Rotors have warped after only 10,000 miles and less than one year.
Brake rotors will warp and cause vibration in vehicle, and particulatrly, in steering column, more severe at higher speeds, every 6,000 to 8,000 miles. Dealership has examined vehicle eleven times and, replaced/ recut rotors five times. Services performed by dealership did not effectively prevent rotors from warping again. Please provide any additional information / documentation.
While driving at 40 mph, and upon pressing down on brake, vehicle shaks very hard, rotors appear to be very worn, vehicle has been taken to dealer approximately 5 times already. Consumer also stated there is a ticking noise from engine when starting up, steering damper and drag link assembly were loose, transmission shifts hard into reverse, right rear turn signal bulb was replaced, vehicle began to overheat, right side mirror was cracked, speaker was inoperative, the trim on the door panel was loose, exhaust system was loud, parking brake needed to be adjusted, passenger side seat belt was inoperative, passenger wiper blade was not cleaning the window, keyless entry remote was inoperative
Front brake rotors warp roughly every 12,000 miles, Chrysler replaced twice under warranty, Chrysler would not cover after 36,000 miles. Causes major front end shaking, makes car very hard to control on hard stops.
Problems began approx 6 mos after purchase. Rotors warping. Resurfaced, replaced twice, along with other non related things done in attempt to solve. Currently have bad rotors, again. Chrysler will no longer support, wants money from my pocket. This consumer feels that brake rotors should not have to be replaced 3 times in under 3 years. Rotors are inadequate quality for the braking system design of the G.Cherokee.
Brake system rotors warp after approx. 5000 to 8000 miles. History is as follows. Each time vehicle was taken in due to vibration while braking. 10-19-1999 at 4812 mi. - said not problem was found. 1-18-2000 at 7405 mi. - resurfaced both frnt rotors. 5-2-2000 at 10858 mi. - replaced both frnt. Rotors. 5-29-2001 at 22008 - "found frt rotors to be out of round" replaced frt rotors. (this time had been occuring for a while but it took a while for me to get the vehicle in for service.) recently on 12-17-2001 the problem continues, 28000 mi. However they will not cover any repairs as they have in the past. When problem origionlly started I was told by the service manager that due to changes in brake pad makeup that this was going to be normal and to expect it. I was also told to change my driving habits. (I do not ride the brakes). Any help would be greatly appreciated as Chrysler and the dealership are washing their hands to this.
Have had the front brake rotors replaced 4 times. On the fourth time Chrysler said this is the last time they would replace the rotors and are washing their hands of it.
In March of 2001, I noticed that there was a severe shaking when I applied the brakes at between 45-55 mph. Not being one to take chances, I took my Jeep in to have it checked. They said that the rotors needed resurfacing. This was done at a cost of over $200. About 2 months later, the same thing happened. This time I took it to a dealership, thinking that they might do a better job of fixing the problem. They again resurfaced the rotors for $300+. this lasted for about 4 months until November, when the same thing happened. This time it happened while my wife was driving and nearly caused an accident on the freeway as she was unaware of how the brakes would react. This time they said all my brakes - front and back were shot and I had them replaced at a cost of $600+. at no time did Chrysler ever mention there might be something wrong. I ended up turning the vehicle back in 4 months early because I did not want to go through that again and I had no confidence that it wouldn't. I thought I jsut had bad luck until I started researching this on the web and found numerous complaints about this amongst other things that had gone wrong with my Jeep. This was the most serious of those problems both safety-wise and monetarily-wise.
Front oem rotors warped after 6 months of ownership and 7,000 miles of driving. Dealer admitted ongoing problems with rotors warping on Grand Cherokee. Refused to replace under warranty and would only perform repairs with oem parts. Rotors subsequently replaced with aftermarket performance parts. Manufacturer blames failures on weight of vehicle and driving conditions. I've owned two similar weight Ford Explorer driven under the same conditions for a combined 200,000 miles with no rotor problems.
Brake rotors have failed seven times since vehicle was purchased new. The dealership has either turned or replaced the rotors six times. Since the vehicle is now beyond 36,000 miles, the dealership along with Chrysler is refusing to fix the probelm (at no charge). Prior to the vehicle reaching 36,000 miles, I asked if they would continue to correct the problem once the vehicle was beyond 36,0000 miles and was assured that they would take care of the problem should it arrise again. Such is not the case. They are refusing to fix the problem at no charge. The rotors have been a chronic problem. As far as I am concerned, the rotors have never been fixed correctly, otherwise, I wouldn't continue to experience the failures.
Rotors warped every 6-8000 miles repeatedly, rotors replaced each time by dealer but did not solve the problem. Dealer now asks for "customer participation" to replace rotors again, even though he makes no assurances that these rotors will last longer than the old ones.
During activation of brake system traveling at any speed there is a pulsation in the brakes, there is a squeaking noise, and vehicle pulls to the right. Dealership has examined vehicle three times, and failed to remedy the problem. Brake rotors and front stabilizer bars have been replaced. Consumer stated there was also a possible oil leak, dealer replaced the tie rod to pitman arm and the real pinion seal, also the steering dampner assembly was replaced, and the engine surges at times sometimes hesitates, also there was a leak behind the driver/rear floorboard.
The rotors continue to warp causing the vehicle to vibrate when applying the brakes. The manufacturer has been notified repeatedly and is blaming the warping on driver.
The front rotors are warped causing the steering wheel to vibrate violently when the brakes are applied, consumer has to have new rotors or have them turned every 9,000 miles.
