This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Brake pedal was shuddering/pulsating at any speed when brakes were applied. Dealership informed consumer that front/ left and right brake rotors were warped with 24,000 miles on them. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
Whenever braking after traveling 45mph and above vehicle will vibrate. Can maintain control when this happens. Been to dealership at least 3 times for problem. Problem is causing tires to wear out excessively due to rotors. Mechanic cannot resolve problem.
Every six months consumer has to take vehicle in for brake problems, such as squealing and vibration. These problems occur at any speed. Dealership informed consumer that rotors were not heavy duty enough to handle vehicle. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
Brake rotors repeatedly warp causing severe shaking in steering during highway speed braking and moderate shaking at slower speeds braking. This is a persistant problem with this model Jeep - mine, as well as others according to reports I've read. Jeep repairs this defect under warranty by using an "on-the-car lathe". this is a temporary fix at best as these brake rotors are of defective manufacturing.. Chrysler/Jeep is stalling a recall by attempting these ineffective repairs in my opinion. I believe a safety recall is urgent.
Rotors turned, brakes replaced once, chronic problem, not corrected, dealer blames my driving - no way- problem never fixed, brakes grab and wobble, steering wheel shakes, reoccurs.

I leased my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee in December of 1998. In August of 1999, the dealer had to machine the rotors at 11,200 miles (the pads were fine). In January 2000, the dealer replaced the front and rear rotors at 19,062 miles (again, the pads were fine). In June 2000, the dealer had to replace the front rotors at 27,324 miles (as usual, the pads were ok). Now that it is out-of-warranty, I had the Jeep checked by our mechanic. In April 2001, he had to replace the rear rotors at 38,500 miles. I did need pads this time. Based on the reports of faulty rotors on the 1996, 1997, and 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I believe that DaimlerChrysler should issue a recall on the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I also want to be reimbused by them.
First report may have stated some other brake component...if I didn't know the exact part when reporting the failure....second report did state rotors, this is the 3rd report of failure.
Brake rotors were experiencing excessive wear. Rotors were replaced at 12,000 miles and at 28,000 miles. Consumer states Chrysler agreed to pay 1/2 of the repairs.
Began to experience wheel shutter when braking at higher speeds (15K miles) rotors turned @ 27K. Now all 4 rotors need to be replaced @ 53K. Chrysler refused to aknowledge that they have any reoccurring issues with the brake rotors on the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
We have experienced a recurrent problem of a hard shimy/ shaking when applying the brakes suddently at speeds of 50mph and above. The dealer has repaired the problem 4 times since we purchased the Jeep in December 1998. We are currently in the process of trying to get the dealer to repair the problem for the 5th time. We are concerned about the safety of our Jeep, as well as all those other Jeep with the same brake problems, being on our nations highways. Jeep is not responsive to our concerns.
Rotors constantly warping, dangerous shake at highway speeds when applying brakes. Severe banging in rear when coming to a stop. Dealer fixed three times but keeps coming back. Vehicle stalls for no reason. Dealer cannot fix. There are many other problems and the dealer just ignores. This car has a mind of its own. This car has serious safety issues.this car is a lemon. This car is dangerous and I can't believe that Chrysler is able to get away with it hoping everybody and everything just goes away. The NHTSA is supposed to be for the people so I really hope you can do something against a company as big as chrylser. They should not be able to get away with sweeping their problems under the rug.
When applying brake vehicle would wobble. To dealer who rotated tires. This did not remedy problem, dealer then inspected rotors and found them warped.
When brakes are applied forcefully, roters are warped. The rotors have been replaced three times and turned twice. The failure occurs about every 6000 miles. All repairs have been made under warrenty, but problem is still present.
Brake rotors prematurely warped. Braking at high speeds cuases significant steering wheel shimmying. Brakes squeal and vehicle shudders when brakes applied at lower speeds.
Rotors replaced under warranty three times in June 1999, August 1999, and October 2000. Consumer had to pay half on rotor replacement. Vehicle has same problem again.
