CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2019 Cherokee is racking up engine complaints for suddenly shutting down while driving. But the problem could possibly be related to the increasingly defective 9-speed transmission which suffers from hard shifts, lurching problems, and a wiring harness defect that can cause sudden shutdowns or an unexpected shift into neutral.

After an intersection stop and starting to accelerate during a right turn and car in motion, the car engine stalled. The dashboard showed 0 RPM and just the battery indicator on. Park over the road shoulders, I could start the engine again after 2 attempts. This has happened 3 times as of now, 2 times last week (May 10 and May 11 2019). Went to the Jeep dealer in pineville, charlotte, nc. They suppose executed the work order for the safety recall U86 (NHTSA recall number 18V-523) on May 11. But today (May 13 2019) the car did exactly the same in the same intersection like the first time. Car has only 4,250 miles. Consumer stated I went to the dealership as I saw "oil pressure" error message on the dashboard and noticed abnormal low engine oil level, having just 4,000 miles. During the recall service, they suppose checked all levels including the most important one: Engine oil. So, after a oil change and oil level replenishment, the Jeep Cherokee is working well since then. Consumer took the vehicle to another dealer to get oil change.

First incident took place yesterday when slowing down to stop. The car died and I lost power steering and everything went blank. I sat for 10 minutes due to not starting up. It sounded like a grinding noise when I went to turn it over. After starting it back I took it to the dealership. They stated it was a recall and it was fixed. Well this morning I went to slow down at a stop sign when I went to accelerate the car died, I was stuck in 4 lanes of traffic. I finally got the car restarted and took it back to the dealership. They stated that they changed my oil and could tell that in looking into the issue that's what it is. They are going to keep the car over the weekend and let me know. However my friend has the same 2019 and her car has done the same thing after an oil change. Something has to be done before someone gets killed.

While operating my 2019 Jeep Cherokee the vehicle has stalled while in motion on 3 occurrences. Each time it stalled the vehicle was unable to be restarted. It has had to be pushed out of traffic to a safer location and then taken back to the dealership. Multiple repairs have been made by the dealership to the fuel system with an assurance that the problem is resolved. The problem is still on going. This is a serious safety issue that occurs without warning in a moving or accelerating vehicle and will result in an accident. My family does not feel safe in this vehicle. The vehicle is < 60 days old and < 3000 miles.

At about 1200 miles, dashboard lit up, car stalled and needed to be towed. Dealer changed battery. Bringing home form dealer, happened again. Dealer had it two weeks. Picked it up and at 1600 miles, happened again. Dealer had it three weeks and changed out computer. Picked it up and next morning dashboard lit up. Stopped car before it could stall, and had it towed to dealer. After two weeks I picked it up. I don't want to drive it. 4 times in for the same issue, and over 45 days in the dealer. Dashboard warning lights: Airbag, braking, park assist, electronic stability, battery, lane warning, etc. If there are warning lights on the dash, it lit up like a christmas tree. All issued happened while the auto was in motion

  • 600 miles
When my vehicle is in motion, driving through city streets, and I try to apply the break it accelerates instead. The RPM's will reach 4000 or 5000 and hold there. I was told by chrystler to apply the gas quickly then break when this happens to stop my vehicle. This is unsafe and I do not feel comfortable in my own car. I also have an issue with the engine making a knocking sound at times, and the radio fades in and out, with that feature turned off, as well as shutting completely down and resetting itself. Prior to the recall in Nov of 2018 this same vehicle from one week of purchase would stall while I was driving through city streets. All of these things happen at a speed of 35 or less. The car went from stalling to after recall update it is now accelerating when trying to stop. The dealer has not been able to replicate and chrystler either so they are saying there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. I do not feel safe in my own car. I am worried there will be a time I will not be able to stop the car before causing an accident.

March 2019 I was making a right hand turn going about 4-6 mph onto a busy highway, when all of sudden my vehicle stalled in the middle of the lane I was turning onto. All the dash lights turned on. I placed the vehicle quickly in park, restarted the vehicle, placed it in gear and hurried to get out of the lane of travel. I then noticed a warning light, it's the auto stop start symbol with a circle around the a with an exclamation point near to the mileage area. Thankfully I took a picture of this error. I took my vehicle to napleton and the service advisor stated that the vehicle could have a battery issue or the oil in the vehicle was low. The best thing about the error sign is, that it clears after you shut your vehicle off and restart it. Even after showing the picture of the error the service department can not duplicate the issue. Stated the vehicles system is not showing any error codes when they plug in their code box. It's been already 4 different occasions my vehicle stalls while turning or stopped at a light trying to move forward. I guess Chrysler will not recognize the issue they are having with these vehicle until someone loses their life and they get sued for damages. I shouldn't have to deal with a stalling problems a new vehicle with less than 5000 miles.

Issue started at 3,500 miles. When making a right or left turn a chime would go off and the battery or engine light would come on, the D for drive would flash on the console, and vehicle was basically stalled. Trying to accelerate did nothing. Had to turn car off and back on. Dealership said it was low on oil and car went into self-preservation mode. Happened two more times before I hit 7,500 miles. Dealer kept adding oil each time. Was told this engine had a harder than normal break in period up to 7,500 miles. Was told to come back for oil change in another 5,000 miles. Oil was checked at 1,000 and 2,000 miles and was not low. At 4,100 miles the issue started again and happened three times driving to work and then once going to the dealer. The Jeep is back at the dealership.

For the third time, the vehicle has lost power at highway speed. It starts coasting and the motor runs but depressing the gas pedal has no effect. The last time it happened, we were on a curving mountain road and almost got run over by an 18 wheeler. Third time this has happened and the dealer has not been able to fix. This has to stop, brand new car stalling at highway speeds. Each time we were at highway speeds. Multiple lights come on the dashboard, see attached photo.

Car radio/computer turns off several times while driving, won't reconnect to carplay (which has navigation) until you stop the vehicle and restart the engine, car does not register fob action (unlock, restart, open tailgate, alarm) and the batteries were good and the car didn't give alert that no fob was detected. Once I finally got in the car, the engine wouldn't start.

The vehicle's electrical system does not work properly. The uconnect screen fades in and out to total blackness. You cannot read anything. There is no way to change any of the settings. I had to turn the car off, start it again to get the screen to come on. It is dangerous when you are driving and have to guess what is happening on the screen. The radio does not work right. I start the car and it either comes on full blast volume, and then fades out to no sound, or it just has no sound at all. I followed the owner's manual to reset the uconnect system using the uconnect menu reset button. That did absolutely nothing! I cannot trust the car or the screen in the uconnect system. The second issue and it is a big one! the car stalls when you step on the accelerator! I tried to pass a car, and stepped down to accelerate and the Jeep stalled! I almost wrecked! when you step down on the accelerator the engine feels like it is going to stall. I am not a mechanic, so I do not know if all of this is electrical, or engine related. This is an on going problem.

2019 Jeep Cherokee latitude 2.4 liter 4cyl engine shuts off while driving. It has stalled once and shut off twice. August 31, 2018 the engine shut off for the first time while driving. I reported it to the dealer. November 2018 - Jeep issues a recall - Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with 2.4L engines. Improper transmission calibration may result in a stall. Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will re-flash the transmission controller with a new calibration, free of charge. The recall began November 2, 2018. The dealer fixed this last November 2018. Yesterday the Jeep stalled and today March 21, 2019 the engine shut off while driving. I drove it directly to the dealer today. I was rattled. Each time this has happen I have been fortunate driving slow and in residential or remote areas. Others have not. There are hundreds of complaints online. This is a serious safety issue.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. While driving, the vehicle lost power without warning. The contact shifted into neutral and the vehicle restarted. The instrument panel indicators flashed as the contact drove home. The following day, the vehicle was started, but then shut off and failed to restart. The contact called the manufacturer and had the vehicle towed to fairfield Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (1409 montour blvd, danville, pa 17821, (570) 275-3300). The dealer diagnosed that the ABS unit needed to be replaced. After two weeks, the contact drove the vehicle and it stalled two miles later. All the instrument panel indicators illuminated again. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and barely made it home. The vehicle was towed again to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was a loose wire. The vehicle was currently at the dealer. The contact wants to return the vehicle and stated that it was unsafe to drive. The failure mileage was 13.

When in motion or parked, turning on my heater, my screen shows engine over heating. The car will stall in the middle of road with no warning. It happens most often when going up a slight hill and making a left hand turn. Dealer says it is low on oil pressure(the car is 5 months old and they say it was 2.5 quarts low on oil!!) and a safety switch shuts down the engine in the middle of road/traffic!! I call this "safety feature" to protect the engine a"danger switch" that endangers traffic. I believe this is a major safety issue for all traffic because these Jeep are stalling in the middle of traffic. I have a 45 second video that shows the stall. Please help get this problem solved!!
