CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2019 Cherokee is racking up engine complaints for suddenly shutting down while driving. But the problem could possibly be related to the increasingly defective 9-speed transmission which suffers from hard shifts, lurching problems, and a wiring harness defect that can cause sudden shutdowns or an unexpected shift into neutral.

1029 Jeep Cherokee limited, bought in June 2020 with about 20000M on it. Battery light came on in mid traffic on July 13, and would not turn off. Took it back to dealer/service a week later, they could not find the problem. 2 days later, same thing, battery light comes on in the middle of a major thunderstorm and lots of traffic. Called for another appointment, 7 days out because the service dept. Has no time. Will not provide rental or other compensation. I am asking to return the car. Very very disappointed. I had a 2000 Cherokee limited for many years, then a Jeep compass, never a thing wrong with either car, and now this!

The uconnect system is malfunctioning when in motion. It is randomcly calling people, nav is a mess and not working, radio will switch from fm/am/sattelite stations, every thing is haphazardly messed up. I feel it very dangerous as it is so distracting. I traded the car yesterday so I would not get in an accident.

5 out of the last 6 times when I am leaving the house, the engine shuts off when I make a left hand turn. When I restart the engine sounds like the battery is dead. It takes a few seconds, but then the engine finally restarts. I only have had this problem in the morning.

My car has turned off on me several times since I bought it. It slowly starts and shuts off when I make a turn. It has shut off on me up to 4 times in less than a mile, while I have my child in the car. Also in a busy intersection. I have taken it back to dealer several times and they say it is due to low oil and they add it and send me on my way. This issue continues and is a huge inconvenience. 04/10 was the last time it happened, I took it in and they changed my oil again.

My vehicle is experiencing frequent stalling and will die on me whenever I make an average turn (left or right), or whenever the car is decreasing acceleration on a normal city street. However, I'm experiencing this mostly when my car is still heating up, so around the first 10mins of driving the vehicle after not touching it for 5+ hours. When my car stalls or shuts off, it still shows that the engine is on through the start engine button. However, I still need to put my car in park, and press the start engine button again while pressing on the gas to turn on my car again. When I do this, the car occasionally will struggle to turn on and sometimes it won't start up on the first try. In addition, I experience my car sounding an alert noise occasionally whenever I'm making a normal turn (when my car is fully heated up), but my car doesn't stall or shut off. Another issue that my car is experiencing is I can tell that my car is occasionally struggling to switch gears when I try to accelerate during while my car is in auto mode. From my understanding, there was a recall on my car model back in 2018 for a similar issue on the automatic transmission. However, my car was never recalled and it was never serviced for anything similar to the recall.

The problem started last week, while making a right hand turn my Jeep suddenly lost all electrical power including the power steering. After I put my car in park and waited a few minutes it started back up without further incidents. The first incident happened on a snow day on my morning commute to work, had I taken a busier route it would have caused an accident. The same thing repeated the following day minus the snowy conditions. I schedule my car for service where I bought it as soon as I was able to take it. When I arrived to the dealer I spoke to a service adviser and explained what had transpired. He quickly recognized the problem, and asked a very specific question. He asked if the car died out while making a right hand turn which was the case both incidents. He went on to say that it happened to that model and engine if they oil gets low. I was astounded as I was not due for an oil change for around 1,000 miles. Clearly Jeep is aware of the issue which seems to be obvious design flaw. I understand how recalls work and I am left to assume that they have decided against it as an oil change can be a temporary fix and a engine replacement would be costly and time consuming.

I purchased a 2019 Jeep Cherokee trailhawk on 11/11/2019. That same evening the instrument cluster, uconnect, and lights all cut out while I was driving down the road. This caused the engine control to be cut and dtc's for brakes, ESC, transmission, and the shifter. Thankfully the first few times this happened on a street with heavy traffic during rush hour and I was able to restart the vehicle. It happened again on the second day while in motion on a side road and again the third day except while driving on the highway. After the third day, I scheduled it for service at a local Jeep dealer. Upon having my vehicle for five days, the dealer discovered a corroded/faulty ground and made the necessary repairs. The vehicle was picked up on 11/18/2019. It drove great until 11/20/2019 when the power once again was cut from the instrument cluster, uconnect, and lights. This also resulted in a loss of engine control with the same array of dtc codes being displayed and also occurred while driving. I was able to safely pull off the road and restart the vehicle. Thankfully this happened roughly a mile from the dealer and I was able to limp the Jeep there. They checked the codes and advised me to bring the vehicle back in the morning. On 11/21/2019 I returned the Jeep to the dealer where it is currently being worked on again. This vehicle is an extreme danger to not only myself but to other motorists that could potentially collide with me due to the random and unpredictable nature of the issue. I am so concerned about the safety of the vehicle that I will not allow my children to ride in my vehicle with me.
