About 2 weeks ago a light on the screen appeared and said "service shifter" and all the lights on the shifter turned on, the D, R and so on. I had to turn off the car and restart it inorder to get the warning label off the screen and get the lights off. Now today, my car will not turn on. It acts like it's going to start but nothing happens. The radio and other electrical things turn on so leads me to believe it's not the battery.

My Jeep has about 26,000 miles on it, since I've purchased this vehicle brand new off the lot, it has been towed 6 times for engine failure. My engine is burning the oil, with out warning while driving, the car shuts off. The dealer insists this is normal, but it is not normal for a car to absorb or burn oil.

The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated while accelerating. Additionally, the service shifter message was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000.

Jeep stalls every a couple of weeks. Determined that the Jeep burns oil and with no indication the car will just stall with no warning at all. When it stalls I determined that the oil level is extremely low. This happens with less than 4000 miles. I see a lot of complaints on line about this. Very scaring when it just stalls when you are driving. No way should a vehicle burn that much oil with only driving 5000 miles or less.

For over a month now I've received"service shifter" message. Car shakes badly and loses power as if its going to shut off. Three different times it did shut off and struggled to re-crank! service shifter message goes away after turning the Jeep off & back on. Very unsafe when driving on the highway (or anywhere)!!! purchased brand new and is up to date on oil changes, etc. Jeep also burns more oil than it should.

I was driving our 2017 Jeep Cherokee with my family in the vehicle, including wife and 2 children (5 plus infant). We were traveling ~20 miles per hour when the car shut down. The car was still moving as we were traveling downhill, and was in the drive gear. We were unable to stop as there was no way to pull off immediately. The gas pedal stopped working first, then the brake stopped working as well. I had to engage the emergency brake and jam my foot on the brake to slow the vehicle down. The situation was extremely dangerous. Once the car stopped, we turned it off and turned it back on again. After power cycling the car, it returned to operating as expected.

This has happened 4 times now starting in Jan 21, 2020. Stopped at stop sign and shut off. Tried to restart and would not. Waited about 3 minutes and it started. As I slowed down for another stop sign it shut off but restarted immediately. As I slowed down for another stop sign I turned right with out stopping and the engine shut off. All the idiot lights on dash came on. Battery was fully functional. Car would not start for 45 minutes and then it finally started.car was taken to dealership and they could find nothing wrong. Their answer was 'if we can't duplicate it there is nothing we can do. If it happens again bring it in'. what is that suppose too mean? it happened again on 5-13-20, 5-15-20 and 5-31-20. All these times it was when we are driving along and making a right turn. Engine just shuts off. On 5-31-20 I was in a traffic lane making a right turn with other traffic behind when the engine shut off. The driver behind me was beeping his horn for me to move as he had not known my engine shut off. Would hate to have this happen if I was on an interstate. Just had the battery replace under warranty on 5-28-20. Engine oil gauge read 54% not sure what the problem is but sure doesn't sound safe to me. Calling the dealership tomorrow to get an appointment.

The vehicle consumes all of the oil (bone dry) before the vehicle reaches 3000 miles and before the next scheduled service. This has happened two times. There is absolutely no signs of a leak. The vehicle stalls out and turns off while driving on the road with no warning (no check engine light or any other warning). This time it happened on 05/26/2020 on a highway with a 60mph speed limit. This is a huge safety concern. This problem is found all through out internet forums for the 2017 Jeep Cherokee and Jeep has failed to put out a recall. The issue is known and they are intentionally putting thousands and thousands of people at risk of severe injury or death. The dealerships are calling it an, "over consumption of oil."

Check engine light comes on and the vehicle stalls while driving. Dealership claims low oil between oil changes, we have the oil changed regularly at the dealership and do not exceed the recommended mileage between changes. This has occurred on main roads during times of high traffic and has put my family in danger on several occasions. This started happening with less than 20,000 miles on the vehicle and has happened a total of five times now. The vehicle now has 36,000 miles on it and I'm tired of dealing with this issue.

While driving the vehicle, the engine just shut off and all warning lights were displayed. Luckily I was not in heavy traffic or on highway. Had to wait about 30-45 seconds before it would restart. This has happened 3 times in the last month ( April). Is there a recall for this. I've looked into this problem and there are several complaints of this same issue.

Intermittently, upon starting the Jeep will display and "service shifter" warning on my dash with all gears indicators (prndl) illuminated in red. I am able to move the shifter and can even operate the vehicle but, it feels unsafe. I have had mixed success with turning the Jeep off and restarting but, most of the time, it succeeds in eliminating the warning and the red lights. I have seen this issue posted on various websites as an issue for a number of Jeep models. Guidance or, a recall may be in order. I would appreciate either.

This car burns oil at an extreme rate, I've had it checked out for consumption tests after every 1,000 miles- it is always low on oil. With no answers from Jeep who is performing these tasks. Currently the car has been since about 25,000 miles- (im sitting at 51,000 now) shaking between gears, the RPM gauge tac jumps around, the car seems to struggle running. Every time the car is taken in - I'm told the car is running correctly even with high oil consumption as well as issues with transmission and that this is Jeep standard. I have yet to have anything resolved since I've been told there are zero problems or the dealership cannot replicate the issues I've had. A less than 3 year old car should not be burning more than a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. This is a car that has a standard of getting oil changes every 6,000 miles. How is this following Jeep standard. If I followed this standard I would be pulling my car into a dealership every recommended 6,000 miles with zero oil. I've had a starter explode in my engine, had it fixed for it to only do the same issue a week later. When in motion my entire car hopps around, its nearly impossible to take it on the expressway because I know its so dangerous. I cannot trust this car going over 55 miles an hour. I've given up hope in Jeep and still continue to get my regular work done to keep the car barely functioning. 51,000 miles. A car that as gotten an oil change every 1,000 miles the last two years. And has had complete regular work done on it. This is not okay. This is dangerous.

While driving the vehicle, it would go into limp mode and shut itself down while driving. This has happened during 3 different periods time near the oil change interval, occurring 3+ or more times during each period. After complaining about it to the dealership, with the 3rd occurrence, they checked the oil prior to changing it noting there was no oil in the pan. After performing a fuel consumption test, it was noted that the engine between 6,000 and 7,000 miles (oil change time) lost over 1.25 quarts of oil. Between 0 and 6,000 miles, minimal to no oil was lost, but between 6,000-7,000 the oil would drop significantly with no obvious reason why. The dealership mentioned they have had other customers with a similar issue. If it was under warranty, then Jeep would likely replace the engine, but since no longer under warranty (expired at 60,000 miles), I would need to replace engine or tear down to diagnose the issue.

The issue started while I was traveling doing 60 miles per hour on the highway when suddenly I had zero acceleration. It was as though I was in neutral. I stopped on the highway put the vehicle in park then back into drive. Still no response. I allowed the vehicle to roll back in neutral then put it in drive. It engaged into drive but only for a short time. I had the vehicle towed to Jeep where the problem was "fixed". only it's not fixed. The transmission will not disengage when slowing down.

Jeep throwing 'service shifter' message and lighting up the entire shifter. Locking brakes, steering wheel and when trying to turn the car off it only continuously tries to turn over instead of shutting off. This started as soon as I pulled out of my driveway on a straight neighborhood road. Consumer was told by the dealer wiring harness in the shifter needed to be replaced or repaired and could not guarantee a permanent fix. Vehicle was traded in and consumer no longer has the vehicle.
