The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. While driving at various speeds, the service shifter indicator illuminated and then turned off. The vehicle was taken to autonation Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram spring (21027 I-45, spring, tx 77388, 281-715-6927) where it was diagnosed that the shifter sensor failed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.
Service shifter warning light comes on the dash after the shifter illuminates all red lights on the gear shift, this happens always while in motion driving down the road. There is no set speed nor driving conditions that triggers this defect. Once stopped and the car is turned off the lights and warning will go off. Within a few minutes the lights and warning will come back on as I begin driving again. This is happening more frequently. I took the Jeep to the local dealership and they assured me they fixed the problem. Since that "repair" (where nothing was fixed), the warning light and gear shifter lights have came on numerous times. I take pictures every time this happens, showing the mileage. The drive train sometimes seems to have a tug feeling as the car is in motion. This happens without the warning or illuminated gear shifter panel lighting up with all red. I was told the Cherokee grand had a recall on this but not the Cherokee latitude. It came on twice today, I have a trip planned across country, so my husband has it at the same local dealership that claims they looked at it before and corrected it. They say it may be a computer issue that can be fixed. I feel it is a mechanical issue in the shifter and I am in danger of a wreck happening! the dealership has agreed to replace the shifter on 9/6/2018 at fletcher joplin mo. I am reporting this to document the problem incase there is further issues.

Throttle body and gaskets were replaced after leaving me stranded in the street. Also, linkage was replaced due to service shifter warning. Please see the attached document for additional details.
I was on interstate going 60mph, a van was beside me turning into my lane. To avoid a crash I pushed down on gas pedal my car did nothing so I hit the brake then the car lunge forward and my RPM was 6. I almost hit the van in rear end.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. While driving various low speeds, the transmission malfunctioned. The contact stated that the vehicle began to downshift and upshift improperly and the vehicle jerked while accelerating. An unknown dealer in stroudsburg, Pennsylvania performed a software update of the transmission prior to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired in regard to the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000. Consumer stated while going down a slight down hill the transmission shifted to a lower gear and the car accerlated to a faster speed which required breaking. Updated 10/16/18
Around 10000 miles my Jeep started having a bucking/jerking feeling when accelerating or slowing down while driving. I took it to the dealership at 18000 miles. The dealership was aware of this concern and did a tcm quick learn (12 June 18). On 19 June 18 same problem dealership is calling it harsh up shift and down shift more in lower gears while driving. Dealership verified concern with test drive and replaced the valve body. Then 25 Jun 18 check engine light code: U0402 another tcm relearn. On July 14 same shifting issue while driving on interstate and July 15 check engine light came on. I took to another dealership July 16 because I am on vacation same code U0402, tcm relearn. Transmission and PCM codes. Service manager said safe to drive. While driving same day to another state on vacation same shifting issue. This vehicle is unsafe! consistent shifting problems, concerning the transmissioin while driving. I have two children every-time I get the Jeep back the dealer says it is fixed it is not and the transmission issues are a safety concerns. Driving 70 mph on an interstate with a transmission that can have shifting concerns at anytime when slowing down or speeding up is a huge risk to everyone on the road. This vehicle should be recalled.

Car started having shifting issues when at a high rate of speed, had to take foot of the gas for it to shift. Went for my oil change and talked about this they informed me that Chrysler did not want to 'recall' all the vehicles so they were just fixing it with a new computer chip. They said if it continues to let them know. Well, it's still doing it but now I am having issues with the car dinging when turning as if my gas light comes on but nothing appears on the dash board. Yesterday I went around a turn it dinged but then also a message appear saying something about the shifter being put in D. the car had pretty much died. Tried restarting it would just rev. The battery and transmission light appeared. We waited a few minutes and tried again it finally turned over. I do all highway driving to and from work this is the last thing I need is to get into an accident because the vehicle failed. Law suit *purchased this car new in April 2017, has 31,000 highway miles on it.
Multiple sporadic flashing loss of traction light on dry roads and rolling starts. 5/10/18 4872M vehicle in motion on city street 35mph "service parking brake" flashed on display 5/12/18 5004M making left turn from stop on yield green very slight decline, city street, depressed gas pedal to make turn, car slipped out of gear flashing to put car in neutral or park and then back in drive. Car rolled into intersection. I flipped over to tiptronic w/O response, shifted to neutral and back w/O response, kids in backseat while car is stalled perpendicular to oncoming traffic. Turned hazards on, shifted to park and back, no response, rolled to side of road at this point. Put car back in park, counted to five, shifted back to drive, and car responded. 5/12/18 5084M fianc driving, city street 45mph. Making left turn across 3 oncoming lanes from stop, car again slipped from gear and flashed message to shift into neutral or park and then back to drive. Fianc shifted to neutral and back into drive w/O response. I turned on hazards, he shifts car into park and counted a few seconds before putting it park in drive and pulling off the road. Dealership closed. 5/14/18 dropped car off at Jeep 5/22/18 vm from Jeep, they didn't know what the issue was 5/23/18 Jeep called, couldn't duplicate the issue, filed a report w/Chrysler, tested grounding, and concluded it was a "fluke in the system". asked me to pick up the car despite not making repair. "if you have issues bring it back".
Transmission sticks - after you are stopped and then apply the gas, the transmission does not properly engage and when it does, it then "launches" you. Transmission does not properly downshift - you will remove your foot from the gas to start slowing down and it slows for a brief second and then surges. Repaired with a computer reprogram on 5/1/18 and the problem remains. Jeep is well aware of these transmission issues in these vehicles and refuses to recall or to find a repair to fix the issue. There are literally thousand of owners with the same issue who have made the issue known to Jeep. I'm concerned for my safety when I drive the vehicle. I have owned the vehicle since September 2017 and it only has 4150 miles. I have filed a concern with Jeep corporate and there is nothing that they can do for me.
Per Jeep service the vehicle consumes oil. Without any warning light, it will just cutoff. Both times we experience the issue leaving a stop sign. Thankfully we were not in the middle of the intersection when it died. This is the second problem in less than a year of ownership. The first problem was a braking issue that the vehicle jumps when it you let off the breaks and push them again. The dealer did a firmware upgrade on the transmission but it still has the issue just to a lesser extent. I have a case with fca case #: 33883097 they are not responding. They have had the car for a month.
Severe issues with Jeep unexpectedly shaking while idle, and worse during acceleration as if it is going to shut off at any time. Also issues with shifting. No engine lights or etc on...temp, battery, oil all in normal range. Currently unresolved. Purchased new, first owner
. the transmission jerks so hard at times in low gears that it feels like you are hit from the rear. Shifting of trans is not smooth at low gears especially on a incline.this has happend multiple times.
Driving Jeep when "service shifter" message came on dash. All lights on shifting panel between seats came on. Car lost power. Was able to coast off road, let sit for one minute and restarted. All was fine. Was traveling on local street at 45 mph.
Car has a delay when shifting form park to drive and reverse to drive. Also when stop and accelerate just a little the car jumps and jerks when stopping. The other day I was driving on the freeway and the car stop responding from the accelerator. Already took the car three times to the dealer and they said they cant find any issue.
