The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. While driving 10 mph, the check engine and "put in park and place in desired gear" warning indicators appeared on the instrument panel. In addition, the brake pedal was difficult to depress. After several attempts, the contact was able to place the vehicle in park and shut off the vehicle. Once restarted, the vehicle operated normally. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. Winnie Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram (located at 125 tx-124, winnie, tx 77665, (409) 296-3500) was contacted and an appointment was made to have the vehicle diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 32,696.

2016 Jeep Cherokee latitude 4X4 (25K miles) will stall or lose power while driving. Happened several times in past few months. Noticed first when had trouble starting in the morning a few times (after a recent oil change). While driving, Jeep latitude 4X4 will jump into gear while slowing jolting the car forward, temporarily lose power (RPM drop, and mph drop), or completely lose power while driving (happened on both city and highway). Complete loss of power happened several times while turning, coming around turn, indicator will ding then suddenly steering stiffens, no power from gas pedal, and car slows to stop. Once stopped, message screen displays 'shift car to P then to desired gear' I then have to shift car to park and restart (sometimes taking 3 or 4 attempts). This has also happened while attempting to merge onto highway (coming around bend of on ramp) luckily there was a large shoulder and little traffic to pull over safely. This poses an immediate risk of safety of not only myself, but passengers and other vehicles. If this were to happen at a busy intersection, highway, or dangerous road conditions (low visibility, slick surface, etc) and accident will occur. I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle.

I bought new Jeep Cherokee 2016 3.2 L in Sep. 2016. Was very happy for first few months and then I noticed I got jerk while I was driving. I informed the dealership guy but, he said that's normal it happened because of automatic transmission. After couple a months I got service shifter light on. I went to the dealership and they updated software. It was back up again with in a week so I decided to change the dealership. I went another Jeep dealership got error code and fix it. It was working fine for at least three months and I got back service shifter sign but, this time it was with service forward sign too. They fix it but because of that my break pads was worn down and it was not covered under warranty and I have to pay out of pocket.after a week I got service transmission light on. I have to tow my car and drop at the dealership. They fix the problem but the all problem back up again. I got the service shifter light on, my car is getting started jerking and create a sound when I was break hard. So guys I am very frustrated with my Jeep Cherokee.

Engine is using excessive amounts of oil. Using 1.25-1.5 quarts of oil per 1,000 miles. Engine has shut off while driving on highway on 2 occasions. When engine oil is low it does not shift properly. First engine was replaced with a new one and the replacement engine is also using excessive amounts of oil. Advised by dealership to let new motor break in and come back after break in period of 7,500 miles. Owners manual states that this vehicle does not require a long break in period as dealership stated.

Keep getting service shifter and need to stop vehicle and shut off and start up again. Sometime vehicle will run good for a couple of days, other times get 5 minutes down the road and it returns. Went on a long road trip and have to pull over a number of times on a very busy interstate. I brought it into the shop three (3) times with the same issue (late date 8/2/18), last time I was told it would be $380 to replace a harness for some kind of cable and they needed to order parts. Still waiting for the call from the shop with a date to replace the harness.

My car will sputter and shut down while driving in my neighborhood. When I tried to start it the car would sputter as if it was stuck in the starter, then just shut down. I attempted again and still nothing. I've called the dealership and they blow me off. I don't know what to do and with an engine acting like this is going to cause an accident. Something needs to be done please!!!

On 4 separate occassions, while in motion, the car completely shut down. On each stall, everything shut off completely including all lights dashboard etc. When I attempted to restart the car in the middle of the road (once on the highway) obstructing traffic, the car would not restart. Only after waiting 3 -5 minutes did the car eventually start. Twice I was almost rear ended.

I was driving down a hill at about 20 mph when my vehicle started stuttering and then shut off. The car pulled up a message on the dash that said, ' vehicle must be in park to start the vehicle'. this was absolutely terrifying. I placed the car in park and then restarted the vehicle. This has happened 2 more times since then. Car is scheduled to be serviced.

Several times in the past 3 months (6-8 times), without warning, the car shuts off. The engine completely stops regardless of in motion or accelerating from a stop. It has happened each way. It shuts off, and the vehicle computer provides a message that you must be in park to start the vehicle. I shift to park and it starts up again. When it shuts off the power steering goes and you cannot control the direction of the vehicle. There are no symptoms and no warning but I see enough of the same complaint that I am reporting it. It has not happened at highway speed yet, and I am afraid it might based on the other Jeep owners comments.

The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled and the battery warning indicator illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the shoulder, shifted into park, and the battery warning indicator turned off. The contact waited approximately five minutes and restarted the vehicle. As the contact was driving, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 34697040. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000.

  • 35,000 miles
While driving the engine shutoff and lost all power. Had to coast to the side of the road in traffic. After taking it to the dealer, found out the engine consumed 2.5 quarts of oil [over half it's volume] in 6 months. There were no warnings of low oil level; engine just died. Was told that this oil consumption was acceptable and if I wanted to prevent the engine from shutting off without any warning to check oil level every 1000-1500 miles to assure it's adequate. The computer apparently gives the driver no indication of low oil volume even after the engine shuts down for that exact reason. I was told Chrysler only becomes concerned if the engine use a quart of oil within 1000 miles. Jeep Cherokee latitude/2016/4cly engine with 35K miles.

Takata recall: I bought the car in June of 2016. Two months later I went into the dealer to complain about my car shaking and the accelerator how my car feels as if it's shifting gears. They take my car to check and told me they can not duplicate the issue so I received my car back. Then during the summer once again in 2017 the car was shaking very bad dealer was on strike so I had to go to another Jeep dealer. They 'solved' the shaking and mentioned to me I possibly need a new engine. I haven't received any contact back from them for that new engine. My car again still shakes and feels as if it is shifting on its own. It's turned off on me quite a few times as well. On the express way in the city in the streets. I just took it back again this year a couple weeks ago in June 2018 and again I get the I can't duplicate the issue. So I'm stuck trying to figure out how to get my issue solved. Vehicle is always in motion when shaking and shifting happens. Vehicle is at a stop when car turns off.

Car stalled while driving on busy roads in Chicago on two separate occasions. First time I was less than a mile from home on my way to work, car stalled out at a stop light and took 3-4 failed attempts to restart. Car was making unusual noise while failing to restart. Second time was later in the day on the way home from work during rush hour. On a 45mph road crossing through an intersection the Jeep stalled out. No codes, nothing. Just stopped working in the middle of a busy intersection. This is a terribly designed 'safety feature'. brought vehicle to dealer and was told I was low on oil. They tried to play it off like it was my fault but I insisted on a oil consumption test, came back after 1000 miles and my car has now been in the shop for 9 weeks after they claimed there was nothing wrong. Jeep needs to buy this vehicle back I'm sick of dealing with a brand new piece of trash

  • 33,000 miles
I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee latitude with 33,000 miles on it. The vehicle stalled while driving about 20 mph on a city street. The engine shut off without any warning, causing me to become stuck in the middle of a busy road, nearly causing a collision. The dashboard made a dinging noise, and stated the message "please return to park, then choose desired gear". after putting the vehicle in park, I was able to restart the engine. After researching this problem, it is clear that this is a common issue related to oil levels in the Jeep Cherokee. The NHTSA should launch an investigation into this dangerous engine issue that affects the safety of the vehicle.

While driving the car on 2 separate occasions, the car died while in motion. The first time, I was leaving church and made a left turn. The car stalled and I was able to move out of the way of traffic onto the shoulder of the road. I put the vehicle in park and started it up a couple of times and was able to go. The second time (today), I turned into a parking lot and it just killed. I put the vehicle in park and then started the car again and moved on. Fortunately, both times, I was able to safely address this. Who knows what will happen the next time? this first happened the 4th Sunday in may of 2018 and the second time, June 10, 2018.

  • 55,000 miles
I brought the Jeep new in 2016 and now it has shut off on me while driving in traffic with no power. This is scary. While driving, I get warning tones emitted from the vehicle with no message displayed. This has happened to me 3 times so far and I'm afraid to drive the vehicle now always thinking it will shut off without warning. I contacted Jeep today (6/3/18) and they said they haven't heard of the issue. I searched online and found numerous complaints about the same issue. I need this situation to be documented in the event something catastrophic happens to me while driving the vehicle. I feel a lot of anxiety always feeling the car will shut off in traffic and get rear ended. Please feel free to contact me regarding this situation.

The vehicle was taken to thompson Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (126 forni rd, placerville, ca 95667, (530) 621-0100) where it was diagnosed, but no failure code could be found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 30,500.
