I purchased this vehicle in September 2016 and it was seen in the service department in October 2016 for a loud click from the brake (told this is normal) and the vehicle shutting off during idle twice. An update was done but the issue continued. November 2016 I brought the vehicle in because the back seat would move back and forth if someone was not sitting in it (they had to replace the whole back seat) but as I was driving into the service doors the vehicle skipped and tried to die with lights flashing on the dash. Service could not duplicate. December 2016 brought in because the vehicle kept skipping when trying to take off from a stop. On two occasions it completely stalled but service was unable to duplicate. The vehicle also had issues with shifting too early at times and then shifting was delayed other times. Once again issue could not be duplicated. Later in December I brought it back again and was told there was possibly a fix. January 2017 the vehicle was brought back again due to stalling and the multi air actuator was replaced. The issue continued as the service manager searched for an answer until I had enough in October 2017 when it came to a stop for no reason and the vehicle would make a terrible noise in reverse at times. Service along with fca attempted to fix it but could not duplicate the issue. When I got the vehicle back it it always skips in idle, makes a lawn mower sound in idle and when shutting off makes a whining noise. I have stopped driving the vehicle and am trying to get fca to do the right thing via Georgia's lemon law. I have done my due diligence following fca's required steps and they said they cannot duplicate my issue but would give me a good faith payment for my time. I have asked to talk to supervisors etc but am told that is not their protocol and they closed my case. This vehicle is unsafe!
I came to a complete stop at a red light. The brake and gas pedals were frozen in place and the elictrical equipment on the dash went haywire for a moment. The message center then showed the message "start stop system unavailable/ please return to park, then choose desired gear." I was able to turn on my flashers, but despite shifting to park and to drive several times the transmission would not engage. The engine did not seem to be running. I had to turn the car off and then on with the key several times before the engine turned over. The same thing happened at the next two stop lights. I drove about three miles past the third stoplight, and the same thing happened but while I was driving in motion on a highway at about 55 mph. There was no shoulder. It was terrifying. I turned on my flashers and came to a full stop coasting with no brakes and no ability to shift gears. I turned the car off and on with the key again and the car seemed "fine." I used the dash button to turn off the auto-off mechanism and drove the last ten miles home without incident. I'm not sure whether the ess system is related to the malfunction, however the error message and result of turning it off suggests it is. I still have a message that says "service auto on off system." Calling dealership today.
Vehicle started to jerk (like rear-ended) once; what it seems, from the transmission got heat after driving for 5-10 mins. Feels even more on uphills and accelaration. No dashboard lights. All started around 58000 miles
Jeep lost almost all power while in moderate 2 lane (55mph) highway traffic. Without any sort of warning the "check engine" light came on, with a "service transmission" message. Luckily, the traffic behind me was alert so I didn't cause an accident. I coasted to a stop on a very narrow shoulder, turned the ignition off and on then on. I was then able to drive the Jeep back home in "limp mode". this is a potentially dangerous issue that appears to have several previous reports.
In November 2016 I was driving in a 35mph zone. The car began to skip and jump forward. Without warning the service shifter light came on and all my lights for the shifter came on (P, R, N, D). The car which was in drive immediately shifted into park and I lost all control. Thankfully I was able to come to a stop and call for a tow truck. The issue was fixed under warranty and they said it's a defect in the shifter. The service department was very vague when explaining this to me. Two weeks later I I was told I could pick up my car. Fast forward to today 10/04/2017, my car did the same thing. I was traveling at 55 mph this time and lost all control. I had to jump a curb and drive across the lawn and into the parking lot. I have read many issues about this problem from other Jeep owners. Why hasn't a recall been issued? especially if this is a known issue. I could have caused a large accident especially since it was during rush hour. Safety of consumer and others on road need to be taken into account.

There is a known issue with the transmission. Some, not all of the 2016 Cherokee need a software update. Without the update my car will go into "limb mode". you never know when it will happen, you could be merging onto a highway, making a turn across traffic, just whenever. When in "limp mode you lose acceleration or your car stays in 4th gear. This very dangerous. I think all Cherokee owners should be made aware of this potenially dangerous situation
Excessive oil consumption. To protect itself, the engine will shut down without warning, no oil or engine lights. This has happened several times in one year. The most recent Sept. 27, 2017 was when I was in traffic on a side street in worcester MA.. it took 5 men to physically push my car to the side of the road to prevent an accident from happening. Unacceptable. After having a tune up in mid-July 2017, the car dip stick in late September was dry. After towing the vehicle to the nearest dealer I found out it took 4 quarts of oil. I believe this is an excessive amount. I am now going to have to check every 500 to 1,000 miles not to mention the higher cost to purchase synthetic oil. The
When the weather is over 90 degree the engine does not start while using the push ignition button or the remote start. The ac and radio are operational however the vehicle displays a check engine light along with other service park brake warning message. The vehicle will not start till the weather cools down and gets below 90 degrees. There is possibility this issue can arise when driving the vehicle, in which case it could be deadly.
The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle was shifted into reverse. When shifted into drive, the vehicle was not operable for approximately 40 minutes and the shifter malfunction warning indicator illuminated. Safford of fredericksburg (5202 jefferson davis highway, fredericksburg, va) could not replicate the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 14,100.
Air bags did not deploy in front end collition. Shifter lever shows red indicator lights while driving in all gears neutral, reverse, drive, and park. Pulled off road turned off car then back on lights went away. This has happened three times under 30,000 miles. Dealership cannot find problem
My 2016 Jeep Cherokee started having issues. On my way home from work the service transmission message popped up on my display and engine light came on and had absolutely no acceleration capability. Managed to stay with traffic and proceed to the off ramp to a gas station. I followed what it's said on owner manual: Turn off the car and turn on the car while on natural for few minutes and the message went away but the engine light was there for a while and got turned off it self. But the next day same issue happened again. I took the car to Jeep dealership, they did not have a transmission specialist to check the car. I had to make an appointment with another dealership, the appointment is for tomorrow. Interesting is the manual says after resetting should not drive the car because it might cause engine problems, and should have dealer to check but the dealers don't check the car right-away they give you appointment for few days later or a week later. I had this car for year and half I drive 3 miles from home to work I don't understand why the car should have a transmission problem at this early stages. I don't feel safe driving this car. Not happy at all!
The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle entered into safe mode and decelerated independently. The vehicle was towed to victory Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (located at 45 naber dr, shallotte, nc 28470, (877) 463-1766) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the tcm module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14E004000 (power train). The manufacturer was contacted and notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 17,200.
1) car stalls at random without warning and no apparent cause. I've had the car stall at low speeds after turning (able to restart) but most significantly an incident occurring 7/9/2017 when I lost all acceleration on the interstate at 65mph while towing a 3500lb trailer. The tachometer and speedodometer dropped immediately to zero. Total shutdown. Concurrently all the electronics shutdown, including power brakes. Thankfully I was on a flat stretch of road and was able to drift into the breakdown lane. The car would not restart; no electrical components with the exception of the hazard lights and emergency brake were functioning. Car had to be towed. 3) cruise control fails to maintain car speed on moderate downgrades...RPM's will shoot to 5000, then car will "take off" increasing speed by as much as 15 mph more than control is set for. My complaints have been verified/replicated by a Jeep Chrysler service center but they have stated they can't fix the car because they do not know what is causing the issue.
Driving 65-75 mph on highway in high traffic, service transmission message came on engine light came on and we had absolutely no acceleration no use of speedometer, cruse, couldn't check gauges. Were able to pull off the highway. Let vehicle sit and restart. Engine light still on called the Jeep 800 number I had in the vehicle and was disconnected twice with no return call. This vehicle has under 15,000 miles on it. Now less than a week later the same thing happened. This time I took it to an auto parts store to have them check the code. Which came up as: P0887 tcm power relay control circuit high definition for code: Indicates that the tcm power relay control electrical circuit signal had high voltage for predetermined period of time.
Purchased my 2015 Jeep Cherokee in September 2015 brand new with 19 miles. The car started off running great I loved it. By April 2016, I noticed the car began to drive differently and at first I didn't think much of it but it got worse and worse. By October my car was jerking so bad, stalling sometimes and accelerating sometimes on it's on.I took it into the dealership and they replaced the transmission with only 11000 miles on the vehicle. My car drove like it once used to until about the end of January 2017. The car began to accelerate on its own once again jumping from 1gear to 3 gear and back. In February on my way to work my shifter locked on me and went completely out causing me to come to a complete stop. Thank god it was 4am and no cars were out because I would have definitely been in a car accident. I took the car to the dealership and expressed my troubles with the car and they changed the shifter and did some update on the car saying that that's why my car was driving the way it was. The very next Friday after getting my car back from them, I almost hit the back of a car coming down street with a slight incline and the vehicle sped up on it own without me pressing the gas from 25mph to 45mph jumping from 2 to 4 gear. The car jerked so hard felt like I had been hit by another car. I called Jeep and told them I was bringing the car back it was not fixed and I almost had an accident. When they got the vehicle, they claimed when they drove the vehicle it performed how it was supposed.I have been having nothing but trouble with this car since they replaced the transmission. I called chrystler myself to express my issues with my car and they pretended to car at first and barely got in touch with me towards the end of it. Finally, I found a lemon law attorney and I am currently fighting them to buy this vehicle back. I do not feel safe in this car.
I bought my Jeep brand new zero miles, currently its at 28K. I began to hear a flapping noise when shes on idle and the auto shut off isnt on and when I start to drive the noise goes away. Later I noticed that on start point the accelerator either gets stuck or it makes the starting jolt as if I gassed in the pedal all the way. When im on the freeway and I let go of the gas pedal the speed wont decrease I'd have to use the brake pedal, obviously the speed wont decrease if im going downhill, this is when im on a flat wayward. These symptoms with the exclusion of the flapping noise on idle, happen only occasionally. My Jeep is only one year old I maintain it very regularly rotate tires, fluids, the works. I took her to the dealership and im hoping a good diagnostic and a good fix, because since it happens on occasions I don't want to bring my Jeep back and continue the same issue, it could be a safety hazard, shes our only family car and if something goes bypassed, unfortunate events may take place, (god forbid, ) and this issue can be spotted right away, I will have peace of in mind.
Beginning about two month ago, I have been going back to the dealer for drive train related issues. The initial issue was a failed rear hub at around 25,000 miles which was found during an oil change. Next, the main drive shaft (propeller shaft) began making grinding noises as well as a wobble/thumping sound at highway speeds. The grinding sound was resolved but the wobble/thumping continued. The followup for that sound found failed half-shafts (both sides), failed rear differential, and failed transfer case/module. The car was returned to me without all repairs being completed due to lack of parts and "warranty not authorizing additional days of rental" the car then began to give failed parking brake service codes and check air bag system codes which supposedly are related now to a failed on board control module. When the most recent codes (today) were given the car would not shift into gear initially.
The service transmission warning came on as I pulled into a gas station, along with the transmission icon. I turned the car off to fill up. When I restarted it seemed to accelerate fine on the surface street and then highway, but the icon remained lit. The service transmission warning then came back on a few miles later and I couldn't accelerate. Once I decelerated, I couldn't accelerate again. I pulled into a parking lot and restarted the car. Again, it worked. When I turn the car off and on it seems to work fine until the warning comes back on (it only takes a few miles) taking it to the dealer this evening. My car is 50 weeks, 12,200 miles.
The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that on several occasions while attempting to drive, the transmission failed to shift gears. The engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the software needed to be updated. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The contact stated that the vehicle was then taken back to the dealer where the dealer stated that they had no record of the software being updated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. However, the contact stated that the manufacturer advised her to take the vehicle back to the dealer but did not offer any further assistance. The failure mileage was 21,000.
