This evening I was driving my 2016 Jeep Cherokee when it suddenly lost power and I couldn't accelerate or adequately turn. I was beginning to accelerate after having been stopped at a traffic light and made a right hand turn. I was traveling between approximately 20 and 30 mph when my vehicle lost power. My music continued to play, my digital screen housing the speed remained illuminated and I noticed the battery light was on. I did not notice a message on this screen but there could have been one. I was more focused on getting my vehicle off of the road since it was no longer moving. Luckily there was a parking lot approximately 20 feet ahead. I was able to coast my car into the parking lot. Steering was difficult but manageable. Once in the parking lot I placed the vehicle in park and turned the engine off. I waited a moment and attempted to turn it back on. The vehicle began to buck/shake and made a noise as if it was trying to start but not able to. The digital monitor flickered on and finally the engine turned over and the vehicle was running. I left it running for several minutes and then turned the engine off. The vehicle restarted with no problems and was able to make it back to my home approximately 20 miles from where this occurred. This was terrifying. What would I have done if I was on an interstate or highway and traffic was heavy? after this incident and prior to filing this complaint, I researched this problem and have found several videos on youtube showing exactly what I experienced. I have also read complaints on various forums (one titled Jeep forum) describing the situation I experienced. I do not feel this vehicle is safe or can be trusted with my life or others. This needs to be investigated.
Transmission slams into gear and lunges forward; feels like being rear ended. Revs high and then downshifts or misses gear and slams into gear. In motion driving between 0 and 40 miles per hour often when cruising along at approx. 30-40 without warning.
I was driving my 2016 Jeep Cherokee latitude 2.4L on a city highway when all of a sudden the service transmission light popped on and I could no longer accelerate past 45mph. Luckily I was able to react quickly with the hazard lights and make my way over to the shoulder. The engine light is now on and it is triggering code P0887. I know now that there have been several issues with the 9 gear transmission in previous year models as well that have been recalled. This is very concerning and I am afraid of driving my vehicle anywhere that has a speed limit above 35!
I was driving on I95 near DC in very heavy traffic. The car would come to a dead stop with the parking light and two battery lights on. It had the message to put car in park and then shift to desired gear. It did not work and in the middle of high speed heavy traffic I had to turn engine off and restart the car for it to go back into gear. I went to the local Jeep dealership and there were no codes when the car was checked. The service department said it had to be an electronic issue. I was traveling with children on a busy interstate and my Jeep did this three times. We could have easily been killed. My dealership will not even look at my car for almost two weeks.
"service transmission" light would come on and the car loses power. This happened twice while the car was in motion on the freeway. Had to pull off to the side of the road, turn the engine off and back on again

The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. While driving various speeds, the vehicle would experience hard shifting, reduced speed, and would not properly accelerate from a standing start. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 27,000.
My vehicle was on cruise control at 55 mph and during a downhill slope, the vehicle accelerated and rpms jumped to 6-8,000. I could not get the cruise control to shutoff and stop acceleration. I almost hit the car in front of me. Has happened twice now. I have also had it lurch forward at stop signs when taking off.
Driving on I-95 at about 60mph and the service transmission message came on along with the check engine light. Luckily was near an exit and pulled over at the exit. Stopped on the median and tried to get to a gas station but the car would not move. Turned off the engine, waited for about 10 minutes, made some phone calls, and turned on the engine again. The service transmission light was gone but the service engine light was still on. The car now moved. Drove to the destination and the dealer serviced on Monday with a software update. All seems ok so far.
Took into dealership yesterday because a service shifter message was coming up, the indicator lights went sold red, and the vehicle would violently shake both while stopped and during driving. Got a call this morning (6/8/18) saying the module needs to be replaced, and since its electrical its not covered under powertrain warranty. I had mentioned this error message to a service technician during a previous visit, who told me to "not worry about it right now".
Bought car August 2016, first noticed severe jolt/kick August 2017. It appeared randomly. So severe that the first 10 or so times I really thought I was rear ended. When traveling around 40-45 mph car jolts/kicks/jumps/drops (pick your term) when the car shifts gears. Doesn't happen every time, mostly when traffic is creeping along.and noticed that the car idled very roughly out of the driveway just before the check engine light came on all three times. Dealership resets computer then says they can't replicate issue, I've taken it in 3 times now for these issues with no real resolution. They are replacing valve body this time, my car is under two years old and I do not feel safe driving it anywhere.
Two issues (may be related) first safety issue is when driving in higher gears and gas is not maintained the transmission cuts off and it can only idle with rpms able to go as high as 2000 rpms without being able to gain speed. The second issue is that when using cruise control the vehicle will increase speed without adjusting when going down a grade to speeds well over cruising speed. Both issues happen while driving on highway.
My transmission is starting to slip, mostly when I'm driving at a slower speed; is that normal for a car I haven't even had for 2 years" I'm wondering if there is a recall on something that could be making it do this" I'm worried; I'll need to get it looked at for sure.
On 6 separate occasions I've had an annunciation on the driver instrument display of 'service shifter' with associated red illumination of all shift positions of P, R, N, D accompanied by a single chime. The driver instrument display remains frozen on 'service shifter' and any attempt to change pages to check for stored messages is not acknowleged until the car is shutdown, then restarted. No faults appear when stored messages are reviewed. Once restarted the message 'service shifter' is cleared. There appears to be no commonality between each reoccuring episode. Once it came on after start, the rest while I was driving between 30mph and 50mph after sometime in a straight line on urban streets and secondary highways. Mileage it first came on was 16014 then 18875, 20949, 21225, 21422 and finally 24216(just as I was pulling into the Jeep dealership for service). Jeep service provided little information on the problem and released the car to me. My online research showed several Jeep, different models, on the Jeep forum with the same malady as far back as 2014. As of this date my Jeep' software is up-to-date with no recalls.
The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle lost power. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home. The dealer (heritage Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram owings mills, 11212 reisterstown rd, owings mills, md 21117) was contacted and advised the contact to bring the vehicle in for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer. The failure mileage was 40,000.
My Jeep Cherokee sport 2016 got stuck in a gear and would not shift. The service transmission light came on and the gas pedal would not do anything. It happened 5 times on my way home from a road trip and was very dangerous. The Jeep apparently needs a software update and I believe I shouldn't have to pay for that. The vehicle only has 30K miles on it.
Three times recently I was pulling out from a stop sign and the car would not go. I thought the engine had died but it was still on/running. Then on a separate incident I was traveling on the interstate at 55 mph when the service transmission light suddenly came on and the speed dropped down to 20 mph and I could not control the speed.
The automatic lighting had been switching between day and night mode for a couple of days. Then while driving, without warning, the car came to a stop and gave a message "you must be in park before shifting gears". the engine then stopped. This occurred in a rotary, luckily on a quiet street. After a couple of minutes, I was able to start the car and it appeared fine.
Transmission stalling while starting 0-20 mph. Hard shifts and service light flashing. After several instances, vehicle transmission stopped working as I approached a stop sign. I stopped, shut off and restarted the vehicle in park, shifted to drive and the vehicle operated in reverse.
Transmission randomly goes into neutral & the car does not move when pressing the gas. The 1st time it happened I was pulling out on an extremely busy highway & making a right to merge into traffic. My car froze in the lane & 3 cars nearly hit me at high speeds swerving around me. I brought it to the Jeep dealership as it is under warranty & after a few hours, they called & said it was ready & it was just a "software update". weeks later the same thing happened only this time while making a left to merge into traffic. I was in the median waiting for traffic to clear & when it did, I went - again it was like it was stuck in neutral & this time I was almost hit by a semi-truck who nearly jack-knifed trying not to hit me. Back to the dealership I went expressing my terror & the fact there is no way I feel safe in this car until it's fixed. I'm suppose to put my 15 year-old son behind the wheel of it when he gets his permit in a few weeks"? today is Thursday & my car has been at the dealership since 7:30am last Friday. I have to pick it up tomorrow after work. They called to tell me they "cannot duplicate the problem" & recommended I "drive with their technician to see if it can be duplicated with him in the car..." seriously!? considering this is a random/intermittent issue, & does not come with warning, the duplication effort is not likely. I relayed the research I had done since online & recommended looking at the 9-speed transmission issues that have caused problems with the same car. Explaining they describe the same problem I am experiencing. I was told they "cannot use information found on google" & "they've checked all software updates, recalls, & tsr's..." but "they're all based on the date it was built & nothing's come up". I am literally terrified to drive. I know there's a lemon law here, but I'm afraid the next time it happens I may not be as lucky. Help!!?"
