While driving city streets around 30-40mph the car shifts extremely rough causing a jerking motion. While trying to accelerate from stopped position the car has trouble accelerating and will jerk forward once it seems to shift gears. I don't have any lights showing on dash or error codes so I cannot take to a dealership.

This happens randomly on highway roads most times when at a stop light or sign. When its time to go you push on the gas it dose not move for a second then lunges or jerks into gear, also in the lower gears it seams to not shift wright feels like the transmission is slipping. It is going back to the dealer for the third or forth time April 10 / 2019. Dealer tells me they cant find anything wrong.

Vehicle cuts off in the middle of driving on city streets and highway, flashes multiple indicators on dashboard. Truck has cut off while waiting to turn while in middle of a four-lane highway. Check engine light goes off and on. Hesitation and acceleration issues. When pressing on accelerator truck doesn't go as if stuck in gear then finally lurches forward unexpectedly. Very jerky during gear changes similar to driving a stick shift. Taken to dealership where purchased and was told to buy new battery but the same problems continue to happen. Diagnostics at dealership gave no indication as to how these safety issues can be resolved.

problem #571

Cherokee

  • 54,000 miles
Driving along with vehicle in motion, the engine stalls out and continues to roll, but does not operate. Car must come to a complete stop, rest and then try to restart - very dangerous on the highway. A message comes on stating "vehicle must be in gear to shift" or something close to that - but there has been no shifting on my part at all. This stalling has put me in very dangerous conditions because cars coming from behind and around me have no warning of the stalled out engine either. It takes about 3 or 4 minutes to restart the engine. Dealership says this is an oil consumption issue and its something to do with the pistons. Another Jeep service manager said the engine needs to be replaced. Its still under warranty. I fear that we're going to get hit (my daughter and I) and meanwhile, we do not have other transportation and I'm going to be paying on this for 4 more years. There is a lot of information on other people having the same complaints on the internet. For now, the dealership is doing an oil consumption test which is related to the engine problems known on other vehicles. With this many people having the same problem, this should be a recalled engine.

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

We purchased this vehicle used in 2017. Within a few months we noticed that when taking off, the car often stalled or lurched forward. This often seemed to happen in the morning or after sitting overnight, so we assumed it might just be that the engine needed to 'warm up'. now we are having an issue with the service shifter error message coming on with all of the lights on the shifter lighting up. The first time this happened, we turned the car off and restarted. This week when this happened, we turned the car off and it would not restart. It was completely dead. We could not even turn on our hazard lights. We had the car towed to our mechanic. After extensive testing, he replaced the battery, which he said had completely died and as not able to communicate with the car in any way. He said the way in which it happened was very unusual and to watch to see if any other error messages occurred. Two days after picking up our car, the same service shifter message has come up while we were driving with all lights lighting up on the shifter. We did not stop this time and were able to drive home, and we will call our mechanic on Monday. While researching what this light could mean, I have come across countless other complaints about the same issue. This seems to be a major flaw in this vehicle, so I want to add our voice in asking for a recall that would allow this to be corrected so that we can drive our Jeep with confidence rather than fear.

  • 80,500 miles
The engine shut down while I was driving. I had just went around a corner and was heading up a small hill when I heard a beep and looked at the message which said "to shift... must be in park". I had no warning prior to this and was not able to pull to the side of the road. I was stalled in the road and was not able to restart the vehicle. I tried to restart my vehicle several times after ensuring it was in park, with no luck. I called for a tow, and while waiting, I tried to start the vehicle again and it finally started, so I cancelled the tow. When the engine shut down, I still had lights and radio and when trying to restart the vehicle the electronic portion worked (normal dash lights when starting), but the engine did not turn over. I was fortunate I was on a country road with not much traffic when this happened. I would hate to think what could have happened if I was on the highway or interstate. I have been a previous Jeep owner and have never experienced this with any other Jeep I owned. I will be taking my Jeep in to see if the dealership can find an issue. I currently have 80,500 miles on it. I have a long commute to work and I have now lost confidence in this vehicle.

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle did not start. Also, the check engine, service transmission, and four wheel drive not available indicators illuminated. When the vehicle was placed in drive, the vehicle jerked and did not move. When the vehicle was shut off and restarted, the service transmission warning indicator cleared; however, the failure recurred after a couple of days. The vehicle was taken to golling Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (248-334-3600, located at 2405 S telegraph rd, bloomfield hills, mi 48302), but the technician was unable to diagnose the failures. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and advised the contact to take the vehicle to another dealer and to call NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

  • 55,690 miles
After driving a very short distance, I stopped at a stop sign and the engine seemed to turn off while the car was in drive. The display indicated to shift the car into park, and then engage a gear. I shifted into park, and then into drive but the card did not start or move. I tried that sequence several times after turning on the hazard flashers to no avail. Finally I turned off and removed the key, waited a minuted, then inserted the key and restarted the engine. I shifted into drive and the car moved. Very scary. The exact same thing happened to my wife a day later, at exactly the same location, a stop sign 1/4 mile from our home. She freaked out, and then called me. I gave her the procedure I used and she was able to return home. In both cases this occurred on a 4 lane divided roadway. This is an extremely dangerous situation with the power train which the dealer/manufacturer must address before someone is killed.

  • 13,000 miles
I bought this vehicle in 12/31/2017 as used from wally armour in salem Ohio, it only had 11000 miles on it and smelled brand new still. The first incident I had noticed when I was driving the rpms/engine would rev really high and loud but the car was only going 55 and it seemed to be in the wrong gear but I was in the automatic drive position which should not cause this, I could understand if I was in standard stick shift and if I would down shift it would cause it to do that. Then I started noticing a hesitation in the take off of the vehicle so when I was at a stop light and turning left it waiting for oncoming traffic it will hesitate and god for bid there is a car coming and it is hesitating and then all of a sudden it will lurch forward and I get thrown forward then backward in my seat as if I was hit from behind by another vehicle but there was no one behind my vehicle and it will jar my neck causing pain, I had neck surgery in 2016 with a cage put in and a Fusion of 2 cadaver bones, I am in no condition for my vehicle to be lurching forward as if it is getting hit from behind. This is not a one time incident either it is on going daily. I am hoping for a resolution to this problem I have taken it in once and plan on taking it in again to have them look at possibly doing something to it to fix it.

When starting from a stop car hesitates or jerks, sometimes clunks or grinds. Does the same thing when trying to pass a vehicle, pulling out at a stop light does the same thing. I believe it could be the transmission as the car seems not to want to shift correctly and makes rough, jumpy grinding noises does this most of time time you drive it and has for along time.

  • 27,000 miles
Shifting rough when driving, while driving the transmission shifts so hard it seems like I was rear ended throwing me back in my seat. RPM runs high like the car is about to blow up, driving and the car will just slow down, I press on the gas and it does the same thing. I am gonna cause a wreck or cause someone else to wreck into me back of the hard shifting and not going when you press on the gas, then the hard shift again and throwing me back in my seat. Then the car just cut off even though I had the auto turned off? I am so frustrated and scared to drive my new car that was just putchased used in July 2018. Help!!!

Very hard shifting 1-4 gears. Bad enough it feels like you're getting rear ended. Accelerates on its own at times during shifting. Just took it to a local only for them to tell me there is nothing wrong with it. There are recalls on millions of these transmissions but not on mine according the VIN number.

Numerous transmission issues ranging from shifting errors to rough shifting, and recently, automatic engine shutoff no longer works. Despite Chrysler's transmission recalls, the issues continue. The latest issue, on/off switch, has no solution according to the dealer. And they have submitted a star report for assistance. That was after 5 days of holding on to the car.

  • 34,000 miles
My 2015 Jeep Cherokee latitude has stalled while accelaterating at least 8 or 9 times now, and I've only had the vehicle for 7 months. It started when I first purchased the vehicle and the rpms would drop down sunddenly when I first started the vehicle. I took it back to the dealership and they said nothing was wrong with it. Now, when I am stopped at a stoplight, or am attempting to get onto the freeway, my vehicle will stall, the engine turns off, the battery light indicator comes on and I am instructed to put the vehicle back into park and restart the car. It takes a couple of tries for the vehicle to start again. I feel very unsagfe driving this vehicle as I am afraid it will turn off again and I won't be able to avoid traffic.

When I start the car in the morning stationary, the car leaps forward and then the car rocks back and forth. Ive complained about this before but dealer could not replicate issue since the issue usually only occurs when engine is cold. Also, transmission slips and revs when in motion changing speeds using cruise control. The Jeep has always done this since ive owned it.
