CarComplaints.com Notes: There's no way around it, the Cherokee's transmission is junk. There's no other explanation for why a vehicle, usually with under 40,000 miles, would have so many complaints

Car has broken down multiple times. Most recent issue: 1car stalled while trying to make a left turn on highway, would not drive forward -dashboard sign said to put car in park -when trying to put it in drive it went into neutral and rolled back -car would not turn off, kept running when we tried to turn it on and off --??battery voltage low-??warning signal came on -engine warning signal came on -got it to drive again after a few minutes and parked the car -tried driving it home, same thing happened all over again when were at a light after about 5 minutes -went to parking lot, hood of car was burning hot
Check engine light came on, so I took it to my mechanic. Cylinder 1 is bad. The vehicle has 75000 miles and the engine needs to be replaced or at minimum cylinder one has to be repaired. Very expensive repair. I have done regular maintenance and still have an engine problem. I thought the engine would be good for at least 300000.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at various speeds, the vehicle was sputtering and then stalled. The "Shift to Park" message was displayed. The battery warning light was illuminated. The failure recurred after refueling. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was later diagnosed and determined that the catalytic converter, oxygen sensor, vapor canister, spark plugs, charcoal canister, and filter. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,366.
I get error messages that say stop to shift. My car is an automatic, brake comes on when I haven-??t touched it, it won-??t drive sometime Won-??t go forward or backwards, tire pressure errors, check engine light comes on when nothing is wrong now it won-??t always start. The battery is at 14.2 I want a new car this one is crap
When I fill up my car completely the car will sputter and turn off when idling at a stop. Then it may turn off and says to put in park. This has happened several times and in intersections which one incident almost caused an accident. Only happens when car gas tank is completely full. Please advise. Thank you

On March 7th 2023, I was driving my Jeep Cherokee on NY 96A in 55 mpa traffic, saw the check engine light turn on briefly, the engine seized at this speed, started chugging, and nearly had a traffic accident given the abrupt engine failure. In addition, while I was able to get to the side of the road, the car was stuck protruding off from the shoulder into the lane, the engine would not start to move the car, and it was a very unsafe situation given poor visibility at dusk. At 91,000 miles, it seems very strange to have experienced engine failure that ultimately resulted in a $6,785 repair bill at Maguire Jeep/Chrysler dealer in Ithaca, NY (VVA assembly needed to be replaced, broken valve spring in cylinder 4, roller spun and wedged in camshaft causing lobe damage, VVAA collapsed causing loose rocker and damaging head, valve and camshaft. Cylinder head needed to be rebuilt). This vehicle has had other serious problems in the past prior to this incident including a malfunctioning parking brake in 2020 that resulted in my 6 year old son and I stranded, unable to drive while we baked in the 90+ degree heat, a very costly broken 4wd module replacement 2021, and multiple breakdowns due to starter issues/needing starter to be rebuilt (2022 2x).
My car is a 2014 jeep cherokee TRAILHAWK the I bought a few mint ago at a keep dealer and after I bought the car 1000 miles later the car broke down due to a problem with the transmission, I took it back to the dealer and they didn-??t wanted to fix it at first -?? after arguing with them for a couple of hours they resided to fix it and only made me pay for the part -?? after they supposedly fix it the car started giving me more problems and the dealer and the dealer didn-??t wanted to fix it anymore
The contact owns 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 MPH the electronic parking brake suddenly activated causing the vehicle to abruptly stop in the middle of the roadway. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who informed the contact of water intrusion into the electronic braking system which caused the electronic braking system to malfunction. The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle suddenly lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle restarted and operated normally. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 94,000.
For the last 12-months I have been dealing with the vehicle stalling after filling it up. It first started a year ago and was sporadic but for the last 6-months it has been happening every time I fill up. This is a very dangerous situation to be driving down the road to have the vehicle suddenly stall out. The last time this happened was on Saturday, 2/11/23 and I spent the day fighting a stalling vehicle. Since 2020 the check engine light sporadically comes on. Supposedly there is a small evap leak. After looking into this earlier today I discovered this is a well known issue with all Jeep vehicles. Seeing how this seems to be a manufacturer issue the consumer should not have to keep paying out to fix what was not done right to begin with. Please look into both of these concerns.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would lose motive power and stall without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was initially informed that the vehicle needed a new battery; however, despite a battery replacement, the failure persisted. The contact returned to the dealer and was given an estimate for a diagnostic test. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 700.
Similar to NTSB 11504810, when I fill up with gas, my jeep stalls out and dies. I don't lose accessories or anything, I lose engine power. My battery like comes on and my dash says "battery voltage low" "put car into park and then desired gear" it takes a few tries to get it started again and it will buck like it wants to stall out or it dies again completely while I'm driving. Also there are times it is rough changing gears (jerky).
My vehicle drives about 30 miles before an alert will appear saying to service transmission. Along with the check engine light coming on. Vehicle will not accelerate and on hills will begin to roll backwards. When this happens the vehicle must be parked for at least 15 minutes and then on startup all codes will reset and return back to its normal operating. Took to dealership several times with error code P1DA9 and there was nothing that could be fixed.
It started when I was trying to leave a Walmart parking lot back in October of 2022. I put my Jeep in reverse and it wouldn't backup. There was no car in front of me so I tried to drive forward and I couldn't. After several attempts I finally called AAA and had my car towed to my house till I could find a local mechanic to look at it. I then had it towed again to CS Auto Services in Leominster, MA and he ultimately had to disconnect the emergency brake because he determined the parking brake module was corroded and the only way for me to be able to drive it was to disconnect the emergency brake until one could be ordered and installed by a Jeep dealer. I thought he was ordering the module but I was supposed to so a few months later on Dec 27th I was driving home from Boston and the ABS lights and the pic with the car swerving came on and flashed all the way home. I was terrified driving home but after called a few people we determined since the ABS was used in bad weather I was probably safe, so I drove it home and had it towed to another mechanic the next day. The found 3 pages of codes that ultimately were a result of the corroded module and he said there was nothing they could do so I called the Jeep dealer down the road and got it in. They looked at it and ordered the module and connector. It has taken the better part of a month for the parts to come in but I have an appt Fri., 2/3/23 and was given an est. of $1700. I have already spent $500 trying to determine the cause of all these problems and I have driving around the last 4 months without an emergency brake. Both mechanics said they have seen this in Jeeps all the time and don't know why Jeep hasn't done a recall on this since it literally locks your gears up so you can't drive. I guess I was a lucky one because I wasn't driving at the time that it happened but it still happened. The contact has paid out-of-pocket for replacements as well as multiple diagnostic tests despite the dealer not being able to repair the issue.
Recently, after evertime I fill up with gas, my jeep stalls out and dies. I don't lose accessories or anything, I lose engine power. My battery like comes on and my dash says "battery voltage low" "put car into park and then desired gear" it takes a few tries to get it started again and it will buck like it wants to stall out or it dies again completely while I'm driving!
My Jeeps Transmission is going into Neutral while I'm driving in the freeway I'm unable to accelerate and at times have lost power in the freeway and it restarts when I put into park or turn it off. when I place on park or turn off, the system restarts. I had a recall supposedly fixed for this issue back in 2016 but the problem restarted again several years ago. I took the jeep to Norco Jeep in California in December 2022 and they stated they would "email Chrysler" and I have sent 3 follow up messages and no replies or responses. The mechanics at the dealership stated there was loss of control because the tires have different measurements. I mentioned to them I replaced all 4 tires 2 years ago and problem has still been ongoing. When the car is about to lose power, the transmission light goes on and starts losing velocity while in the freeway or in the streets ( mostly freeway) from 65 mph to 40, and then 20mph and at times it stops if I'm going uphill and starts rolling back. I am very worried for my safety and the safety of my 3 children and I am sending this email in the event of an accident to proof that I have made attempts to receive assistance. I'm in need of urgent assistance. Thank you
the Vehicle has a lot of issues primarily involving the Transmission. The transmission does not shift correctly. The automatic shifting is very erratic. Shift very low sometimes at 2000RPM, and then other times a very high at over 5500RPM. During acceleration, it makes a grinding noise and a very rough shift which can pretty much push you forward from your seat. I took the Vehicle to be serviced several times while still under warranty to the Manhattan Jeep Service Center and every single time they said the computer needed to be updated, and after a few miles, it would go back to doing the same thing, rough shifting.
It appears there is a problem with the engine oil cooler part that jeep need to fix so customers do not need to worry about oil leaks due to poor manufacturing of plastic parts Oil cooler fix is not cheap and why they put plastic parts near an engine that gets hot.
Electronic park brake engaged without prompting. Dash indicator lights for Park Brake & Transmission Service along with 'D' for Drive on dash flashing. Could not move car due to park brake engaged. Took several restarts to disengage it. Happened twice with no dash warnings between incidents. Park brake engaging while driving is dangerous and I don't feel safe in this vehicle as I have had a prior issue with losing acceleration on the freeway leading to a scary event.
When driving the vehicle it shakes tremendously and a message comes on that say shift gear to park when we are in drive we shift to park and the vehicle shuts down we could be driving at a speed at 45 and this just happens. This issue happen three times before the vehicle was able to completely start up to get us home. We took the vehicle to the dealership when under warranty they refuse to check it because no indicator light was on.
