It started when I was trying to leave a Walmart parking lot back in October of 2022. I put my Jeep in reverse and it wouldn't backup. There was no car in front of me so I tried to drive forward and I couldn't. After several attempts I finally called AAA and had my car towed to my house till I could find a local mechanic to look at it. I then had it towed again to CS Auto Services in Leominster, MA and he ultimately had to disconnect the emergency brake because he determined the parking brake module was corroded and the only way for me to be able to drive it was to disconnect the emergency brake until one could be ordered and installed by a Jeep dealer. I thought he was ordering the module but I was supposed to so a few months later on Dec 27th I was driving home from Boston and the ABS lights and the pic with the car swerving came on and flashed all the way home. I was terrified driving home but after called a few people we determined since the ABS was used in bad weather I was probably safe, so I drove it home and had it towed to another mechanic the next day. The found 3 pages of codes that ultimately were a result of the corroded module and he said there was nothing they could do so I called the Jeep dealer down the road and got it in. They looked at it and ordered the module and connector. It has taken the better part of a month for the parts to come in but I have an appt Fri., 2/3/23 and was given an est. of $1700. I have already spent $500 trying to determine the cause of all these problems and I have driving around the last 4 months without an emergency brake. Both mechanics said they have seen this in Jeeps all the time and don't know why Jeep hasn't done a recall on this since it literally locks your gears up so you can't drive. I guess I was a lucky one because I wasn't driving at the time that it happened but it still happened. The contact has paid out-of-pocket for replacements as well as multiple diagnostic tests despite the dealer not being able to repair the issue.

the Vehicle has a lot of issues primarily involving the Transmission. The transmission does not shift correctly. The automatic shifting is very erratic. Shift very low sometimes at 2000RPM, and then other times a very high at over 5500RPM. During acceleration, it makes a grinding noise and a very rough shift which can pretty much push you forward from your seat. I took the Vehicle to be serviced several times while still under warranty to the Manhattan Jeep Service Center and every single time they said the computer needed to be updated, and after a few miles, it would go back to doing the same thing, rough shifting.

Vehicle began having parking brake issues. After further research I discovered I was not the only person to have this issue. The Electronic Parking Brake Module (EPB) was located on the rear left side of the vehicle next to the spare tire compartment. I removed the EPB and began to shake the part. The part was found to contain a bunch of water that should not have been able to enter the EPB. The vehicle is still inoperable as the EPB will not disengage. The vehicle is not mobile at this time. I just ordered a new EPB Module on 1/21/2023 from MOPAR and was charged $111 for shipping and the part.

I was going to leave for work at 4am as usual, went out to my vehicle and tried to put it in reverse but the emergency brake was on. I had a -??Service Parking Brake-?? prompt and light on the dash, and another -??Brake-?? light lit up, showing the emergency brake was on. I figured I had accidentally hit the button and went to disengage it, but it would not turn off. I had never used the emergency brake, and had no prior issues with it. I was forced to call into work due to not have transportation at that point. After toggling the switch for 15 mins, the light shut off and I immediately put it into gear to drive to the nearest automotive repair shop, where when I put the vehicle in park again the light came back on. I found out today that it was the module located in the spare tire compartment, both of which were soaked with water. Turns out there is a National shortage on this part with no ETA on when they will in stock, which forces me to have to buy a used part. The kicker on that is there are only 11 used ones available in Minnesota where I live, they need to be flashed, and the used part is twice as expensive as a new part. Regardless of which part I use, if water is seeping into that area constantly it-??s only a matter of time before it happens again. I have now read stories of the brakes engaging while people are driving, and luckily nobody has been hurt yet. My issue with that is my wife and I use this vehicle daily with our 2.5 year old daughter and 5 month old son, and we bought this vehicle because of its safety features. The fact that this is a known issue, my bill will be north of $1,000 for the repair WITH A USED PART, and no interim fix is baffling to me.

Beginning of this year vehicle was taken into mechanic for issues. It had rear differential, exhaust and motor mounts all repaired/replaced! The vehicle still had alot of vibration and just 3 weeks ago wouldn't start! Was towed to dealership since my machanic couldn't work on code issues that was code that came up on Diagnostic machine! Was told by dealership today that the pcm, fuel pump and battery are all faulty! There were multiple recalls since 2020 for the pcm, fuel and electrical the 2014-2020 jeep cherokees. It was taken in for the two recalls we received and wasn't repaired, was just looked at! Now we are having more issues with the vehicle! I have reported this to Chrysler, they are supposed to return my call after making claim and speaking to dealership! This vehicle has had a new engine and transmission put in by dealership in 2016 under warranty. We spent over $3000 in repairs since then to the rear differential, exhaust and engine mounts! Was told this new repair will be another $3000 for the fuel pump, pcm, and battery!

* The component or module that operates the emergency parking brake. I'd say the Jeep garage threw out the old one upon the repairs. I do have a pic of the unit that was bad. parking brake was locking in while it was parked and could not move it. Then when I did get it moving it was always scary. I do know that it could have locked in at any time and cause me to crash. During some of this time I had been driving my young granddaughters in it before knowing what was happening. We could have all been killed is my opinion. * My own mechanic had my vehicle for 2 weeks trying to find the problem. The parking brake module is down inside the spare wheel cover under the tire and there are air vents in there also. So water was running into the well and corroded the module. The vents have a covering that was also bad thus letting in water. Mechanic confirmed that was the problem. Then Jeep was taken to a local Jeep service center and they also confirmed that the water had corroded the module thus causing it to malfunction. They had my car for about 3 weeks because one they had to let the tire well area get totally dried out then wait for parts. And no messages, no warnings in the car of this. The part that bothers me the most is I have reported it to Jeep and they were no help. I feel I should get some reimbursement. I had to pay in total almost $2000 for these repairs. And this was a car bought off a GM lot was a trade in. They were called also and say to me well we dont know if anything is wrong like that......I get that but no help. I had just bought the vehicle Dec 30th drove for a few months then this happened. A 20k vehicle and 2 months later major repair. Just feel I should get some financial help.....and more importantly I have read others having this exact issue and almost crashed...should be looked into hard.

While driving the vehicle- the service emergency brake light came on. The emergency break then automatically engaged on its own and would not disengage. The car had to be towed because the e-brake would not disengage. It was raining the day this occurred. Dealership indicated that water got to the e-brake electronic components and corroded/fried the components and therefore need to be replaced. This also caused the calipers to seize and rotors/pads to need replacement. Jeep dealership and customer care are refusing to cover any costs of damage even though I've asked them to look into the active investigation being conducted on this issue as well as similar water intrusion issue with models that had power liftgate previously. https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/jeep-cherokee-parking-brake-investigation/ https://www.autoevolution.com/news/13-million-jeep-cherokee-vehicles-may-be-recalled-over-parking-brake-issue-194687.html

In the spring of 2021 my parking break and break light illuminated on my dash, my electronic emergency break would not disengage nor would my vehicle move in drive or reverse. After bringing my vehicle to a local mechanic, they diagnosed the issue that the EPB (electronic break module) which is located inside the rear end of the vehicle was corroded from water damage. I placed my Jeep into park at a drive thru ATM, once I finished my transaction, the parking brake independently engaged while attempting to shift to drive. I was finally able to disengage the parking brake after many attempts by holding down the parking brake button and shifting to drive with my foot on the gas pedal at the same time. I managed to pull out of bank lot and made a left turn at 15 mph, once I got into the right lane safely, I released the parking brake button but then the parking brake immediately engaged as the service parking brake message displayed. I was unable to move the vehicle and my jeep was towed to Paul Bailey's (Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Ram) dealership in North Kingstown, RI. My jeep was evaluated that coming Monday, 6-6-22 when tech found codes in system for electronic parking brake. The tech then removed carpets and discovered standing 12 inches of water retained in the spare tire compartment as well as major corrosion in module. The tech tested vehicle and found leaking through the sheet metal seams at top of both sides of tailgate which he then cleaned and resealed. The tech stated that the water had led to an electrical shortage [of the EPB module], which caused the failure. He replaced park brake module, spliced in new 30-pin connector for park brake module and then reassembled vehicle. The tech cleaned sunroof drains of debris causing overflow onto headliner and removed headliner to confirm repairs and clean. The tech also removed rear fascia, resealed body seams behind lights and bumper. I notified the manufacturer of the failure but offered no assistance at all. The vehicle was repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer until July 18th for a total of over 6 weeks with no rental car discounts from Jeep dealership or help from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 53,631 miles. If my 2yr old and 4yr old were in my jeep on the highway at 65mph, this would be a tragedy and possibly a fire explosion!!!

My 2014 Jeep has been experiencing intermittent shut downs, the dash goes dead at random times for a few seconds and then comes back on the issue continues. This issue started in December 2021 during that time I was driving at night and the dash, exterior lights and interior lights started flickering. Now this issue occurs 90% of the time when I drive, sometimes when the dash goes off different warning lights come on, TCS, SRS, Power steering and if the vehicle is traveling below 5mph it sometimes dies completely. Battery was replaced 1 year ago. The middle screen on the dash gets super dim and it appears to still be on if you look closely at night but the dials are frozen at the current speed and rpm. My mechanic tested the battery connection and there is nothing loose that would cause this.
