Vehicle does not start'- initially seems battery related, but battery checks okay at two different parts retailers. Finally got a 'service shifter' message on the led readout on the dashboard. But problem is intermittent and dealership says they can't fix it unless it acts up in their possession. Some owners in an online forum report similar issues across a number of model years. Please help.

Leaving my driveway the E-brake activated and I could not deactivate the unit. Called aaa to have the Jeep towed to contemporary automotive. The tow truck driver had a difficult time putting the Jeep on the ramp truck. I am fortunate I was not going 50mph. The service adviser said the problem with the E-brake was that a sunroof drain hose was kinked and water cause the E-brake fail.

Decelerating on I-75 off ramp to city street, turned off cruse control, Jeep stuttered to a stop when lightly pressing brake pedal. Accelerating cautiously, struggled to accelerate, rmp needle revving high, sluggish acceleration, jolted/stuttered to accelerate to 35-mph then accelerated normal. 4 miles down city street went to decelerate slowly for stop light, "service electronic brake system." Message came on screen, brake pedal became extremely stiff. Brake pedal would not press down as normal. Had to struggle just to get Jeep to stop at busy intersection almost rear ended vehicle in-front of me... placed Jeep in park, turned off & restarted Jeep, as past electrical issues in 2017 have happened with deceleration/acceleration (in 2017 turning off/on Jeep helped(past in 2017 bad battery cell dealership missed had to take somewhere else for correct diagnose/replaced battery)). Light turned green tried to accelerate through intersection to park in parking lot, Jeep barely accelerated to 10-15 mph "service electronic brake system" message came back on after 10 mph was reached. Had to jam down foot to barely move brake pedal 2 cm to come to a stop in the parking lot (almost hit building). Went to put driver side window down before turning off Jeep & driver side window wouldn't go down. Now safety issue might not be covered under warranty /dealership 70,774 mileage. These safety issues should always be covered for full life of warranty not just to 60,000 miles!!!!!

April 2016: Two year old 2014 Cherokee steering cluster display when dark. Removing and replacing the fuses initially restored the display. Dealer could not analyze as the display was working when they had the vehicle. Soon thereafter the problem recurred and was taken to the dealer while the display was dark. They recovered several general codes, did some software rebooting and the display restored. Approximately two years later the issue recurred, the dealer did several software reboots on several trips but the issue remained. Finally they determined that the cluster was bad and it was replaced. Fca reimbursed approximately 75% of the cluster and installation cost. The problem recurred intermittently for several months, each time involving a trip to the dealer. Finally they had it for three weeks, determined that all was good, and returned it to me. Two days later the cluster display died. I was referred to an independent service center with electronics expertise who analyzed the issue for two weeks, including deprogramming and reprogramming the complete system. The vehicle went to a different dealer for reprogramming and when returned to the independent service center the blank cluster display remained and they were unable to determine the root cause. The second dealer suggested the cluster was defective and should be replaced. The independent folks suggested the cluster is good, there is a short somewhere in the system or wiring, or a different module. This affects the speedometer, odometer, tachometer, all engine displays, turn signal indicators, gas gauge, and emergency warnings.

Since we bought our car it has had several recalls as well as electrical, computer based, and power train issues. None of which were explainable. We were sinply told to take it to Jeep, put hundreds of dollars in to fix it and get it back. We've only had the car for abut 4 years. Yesterday, within a month of the last occurence, our car has frozen on us and will not start. Jeep hasn't done anything about this. We've known several other people who have had this same make and model who have had the same problems. We are not in a financial position to keep putting money into a car that should last us longer, or to sinply just trade it in since we still owe 10K on the car. This has also put our kids safety at jeopardy, has caused us loss of work days on top of putting us in a more financial burden. There needs to be something done about this. It is unfair that we soent so much money on a car that has malfunctioned several times due to being built so poorly.

The car will begin to hesitate and then the transmission will go into a neutral state, but the lights will not show that it is in neutral. The car will roll forward or backward depending on where you are. You cannot shift, when you do try to shift, the car will jolt like the engine is going to fall out of the car. Turning the engine off and on, several times, while waiting each time clears the problem. Jeep can not reproduce this it so they will not fix it. Will get a message on dash stating to service trasmission and parking break. This has happened at least 5 times that I have documented by pictures and video on my phone however, has happened a lot more. Specific dates documented are 11/19/17, 11/21/17, 11/29/17, 12/13/18, 4/2/19.

My Jeep Cherokee electronic parking brake has come on by itself and it cannot be turned off. This first happened at the end of last year and I brought it to the dealer and I had to pay for the electronic parking brake switch to be replaced. Last week it happened again and I brought it back to the dealer and they told me that now the electronic parking brake connector and electronic parking brake module both need to be replaced at a cost of $1500 plus. Doing a search on the internet reveals that this is a common problem with Jeep Cherokee. I am afraid to drive the vehicle as this can happen anytime and it is unsafe. To drive. Looking on the Jeep website they have issued a service bulletin that covers the exact issue - electronic parking brake module connector water intrusion. The problem that they claim is due to water damage and it is in a spot where I find it hard to believe any water can get in.

I bought my 2014 Jeep Cherokee Oct.2016 I noticed when I would come to a stop or pull out it would stay stuck in the gear and then all of a sudden it like kicked into the gear with a jerk. I took it back to the service department and they told me there wasn't anything wrong. Well, it has never stopped and has gotten worse. What upsets me that there was a recall on this Jeep July 12, 2016 NHTSA campaign number: 16V529000 transmission may shift unexpectedly to neutral if the vehicle unexpectedly shifts to neutral, there is an increased risk of a crash. What makes it worse the dealership was unaware of this when they sold it or when I brought it back?? Friday I left work at 6 am I drive an hour I drive on busy highways my Jeep suddenly lost power on a dbl lane road with cars behind me and to the left, I am thankful I was on the right side that I could drift over to the side, but the snow that was packed along the guard rails still left me 1/2 in the lane flashing something about my transmission. Thank god I was not on Pennsylvania, interstate 70 when this happened because it would have been a major catastrophe with multiple vehicles and tractor trailers. I call the dealership where it was bought told him what had happened...I got an appointment in about 2 weeks this Jeep is unsafe!!!! plus there are other issues with it.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the transmission gears slipped without warning when the vehicle was started. While the vehicle was idling at a stop, a warning indicator near the gear box indicated that the gear was shifted when it really was not. In addition, the vehicle randomly stalled several times intermittently. The contact was uncertain if the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 16V529000 (power train). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While driving 70 mph, the gear shifter failed to move into neutral and the service transmission warning indicator illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. Then vehicle was restarted and was able to drive; however, the failure recurred five miles down the road. The contact stated that the coolant increased to 200 degrees. The vehicle was taken to Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram 24 (1020 belmont St, brockton, MA 02301, (781) 961-1550) where it was diagnosed that the transmission, four spark plugs, one coil pack, an auto grill shotter, and jumper harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000.
