When shifting from a parked position, rolling stop, or just at a stop sign, it will not shift right away and then it will lunge into gear and lunge you forward as well. It has gone from a neutral position to drive and it wouldn't stop lunging. The check engine light came on and said the transmission needed serviced. I had to put in park, turn off the car, and then wait. Once I started it back up and wasn't lunging constantly but still did when shifting. It seems like this is a common problem that needs to be fixed by Jeep. These problems have happened on city streets and highways.

Near death experience too many times. Have reported this to the dealerships and to Jeep headquarters. It is a known issue with Jeep and they fail to do anything about it. If you try to accelerate from a incomplete stop (such as slowing down on a ramp and then speeding up) the car does not shift into gear and you are left sitting in the middle of dangerous traffic. Eventually it will shift and buck and throw the car into high speed as the transmission tries to catch up to the fuel that was dumped into the engine as a result of the car not changing gears and going forward when the gas was first applied. Have narrowly avoided being blind sided in intersections almost daily!!! so sick of Jeep not fixing it, and knowing about the issue for years and years and years. It is a death machine just waiting for the next kill. You can see all the complaints on this year (2014) and (2015) with this car. I have had into the shop repeatedly since purchasing this vehicle new and still no resolution from Jeep. They don't care if you die in the car, even though they know the car will not shift into gear when trying to accelerate from a stop or a slow roll. This report wants to know when this happened. It happens every single day since the day we bought the car. I would have reported it daily if I had known this form existed before today.

I first bought this car last year late June, first car ever. My first concern with it was that the breaks were a bit off every time I tried to break it would accelerate a little bit then it would stop. Then I took it to service and they told me something was wrong with the transmission so I had to take it to an actual Jeep store to get it service I didn't take it right away cause I was busy but then one day after getting gas my car started acting weird and it turned off on me while still being at the gas station so when I turned it off and tried to turn it back on it was kicking a lot and it wouldn't let me move it unless I put it on 'park'. every time I had to stop at a light it told me to put in on park and put it back on drive once I was ready. I took it in right away they said they 'fixed' it and said it should be okay and if it wasn't my car might be a 'lemon' car. So that was about 2 months ago and there would be some times that the I think engine would start going fast or it sounded like my car was movie when it was actually just parked. But this Saturday after getting gas I was heading towards the freeway and my car just turned off on me not once but twice the first time I was at the shopping center so cars were going slow and I had enough power to move it to the side but then I turned it back on and took it home and before I could park it turned off on me okay good things it didn't happen on the freeway or a street that was busy. So I took it back to the dealership today and told them my problem and the told me to take it back to Jeep to get it serviced again but I don't want to spend 250$ again on something they won't be able to fix and I need a car but I'm scared to drive this one now after all these accidents. I am going to take it in again but I couldn't do it cause I needed a rental car.

We have had this Jeep for 2 1/2 years. Have had transmission issues from day 1 with heavy shifting, lunging in park and transitions from reverse to drive. It also heavy shifts when going on a significant downhill grade. Initial dealer told us it was a software issue. Updated software did not fix second dealer told us a ring was installed incorrectly. Did not fix problem. Second dealer told us need a new transmission. Did not fix problem. Third dealer told us it was not bad enough to require repair. Back to second dealer. Who replaced transmission pan. Did not fix problem. Back to second dealer: Waiting to replace transmission for the second time. The vehicle is unsafe. It lunges at random times. It does not move smoothly between gears. Dealers have said that there were major issues with the 2014 transmission. Now we have vehicle that we feel is unsafe, has devalued and I have spent countless hours taking for "warrantied" repairs that do not fix the problem.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that when attempting to shift into park, the gear shifted into other gears instead of park. After the gear finally engaged in park, the vehicle moved in reverse. The contact had to get back inside the vehicle and shift the vehicle in park. In addition, the vehicle made an abnormal chiming noise and "place in park" appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to M and L motors Chrysler Jeep and Dodge (406 piedmont dr, lexington, nc 27295, (336) 295-1329), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was called and transferred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was 88,000.

While moving the car suddenly acts as if in neutral even though indicator shows in drive. The engine runs but the car no longer has power. Car must be stopped and placed in park before the transmission will again engage. "check transmission" errors are displayed. This has always happened on city streets at low speeds. I worry abt driving on the highway. This has happened three times in the 25 K miles I have put on the car. Taking it back to the dealer results in them telling me nothing is wrong with the car - the transmission just lost communication with the and transmission. They reset the computer errors and the car runs normally. My brother has similar problems with his Jeep and was told he needed transmission fluid changes. I do not know exact dates this has happened but can obtain from local Dodge dealer. This usually occurs when slowing for a turn or stopping at stop lights or stop signs.

May 17, 2019 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 1200 New Jersey avenue SE West building Washington DC 20590 to whom it may concern; I am writing to inform you of a very dangerous condition that exists concerning my 2014 Jeep Cherokee and many others, some of which can be found at this link: My transmission control module malfunctioned on Nov. 13, 2018. My vehicle quit running while I was driving at a fairly slow speed and slightly uphill about a block from my home. I managed to start it again and drive to my home but it ran very badly and I wasn't sure that I would make it. The words: 'service transmission' appeared on the instrument display. I had it towed to the dealer. The dealer's repair invoice (attached) lists, ' found code P1ddd-). needs tcm and PCM update per sb 21-025-18'. on May 14, 2019, just 5 months after the first incident the same malfunction happened again. The vehicle stalled in the middle of a very busy intersection. It was able to be restarted and driven with much difficulty a few blocks to be out of harms way until a tow truck could again deliver it to the dealer. This time the dealer replaced the transmission control module for $968.35. (repair invoice attached). How long will this one last" we won't know because we are trading this vehicle in. We do not trust it to drive it any longer. How many more are out there" see the link. This is a very dangerous condition. Someone is going to be killed or badly hurt if they haven't already. I urge you to do what you can to effect a recall of these vehicles with these faulty parts.

Decelerating on I-75 off ramp to city street, turned off cruse control, Jeep stuttered to a stop when lightly pressing brake pedal. Accelerating cautiously, struggled to accelerate, rmp needle revving high, sluggish acceleration, jolted/stuttered to accelerate to 35-mph then accelerated normal. 4 miles down city street went to decelerate slowly for stop light, "service electronic brake system." Message came on screen, brake pedal became extremely stiff. Brake pedal would not press down as normal. Had to struggle just to get Jeep to stop at busy intersection almost rear ended vehicle in-front of me... placed Jeep in park, turned off & restarted Jeep, as past electrical issues in 2017 have happened with deceleration/acceleration (in 2017 turning off/on Jeep helped(past in 2017 bad battery cell dealership missed had to take somewhere else for correct diagnose/replaced battery)). Light turned green tried to accelerate through intersection to park in parking lot, Jeep barely accelerated to 10-15 mph "service electronic brake system" message came back on after 10 mph was reached. Had to jam down foot to barely move brake pedal 2 cm to come to a stop in the parking lot (almost hit building). Went to put driver side window down before turning off Jeep & driver side window wouldn't go down. Now safety issue might not be covered under warranty /dealership 70,774 mileage. These safety issues should always be covered for full life of warranty not just to 60,000 miles!!!!!

Vehicle does not accelerate properly. If you slow down for a light which then turns green, when you go to accelerate the vehicle hesitates for several seconds. Also does it when pulling out from a complete stop. We have had several near rear end collisions because of this. Vehicle was purchased in Missouri and taken to the shop several times for this issue and each time the either said they found no issue or they flashed the computer. We are living in Utah now and the issue continues to the point my wife is afraid to even drive it. This is a daily issue when I go to work I have to enter a two lane highway with a speed limit of 65 mph and the vehicle will not accelerate.

Purchased used November of 2017. Has a little over 55,000 miles on it. Have noticed that the transmission seems to take longer than it should to shift and sometimes doesn't shift up at all or will shift down or even to neutral sometimes while driving at higher speeds. Also will lose power and then sometimes use a lot of power when not needed, causing the car to jerk or accelerate out of nowhere. Happens very often and has been continually getting worse since I've purchased it. But severely noticed it on my last road trip about 6 weeks ago.

Since we bought our car it has had several recalls as well as electrical, computer based, and power train issues. None of which were explainable. We were sinply told to take it to Jeep, put hundreds of dollars in to fix it and get it back. We've only had the car for abut 4 years. Yesterday, within a month of the last occurence, our car has frozen on us and will not start. Jeep hasn't done anything about this. We've known several other people who have had this same make and model who have had the same problems. We are not in a financial position to keep putting money into a car that should last us longer, or to sinply just trade it in since we still owe 10K on the car. This has also put our kids safety at jeopardy, has caused us loss of work days on top of putting us in a more financial burden. There needs to be something done about this. It is unfair that we soent so much money on a car that has malfunctioned several times due to being built so poorly.

The car will begin to hesitate and then the transmission will go into a neutral state, but the lights will not show that it is in neutral. The car will roll forward or backward depending on where you are. You cannot shift, when you do try to shift, the car will jolt like the engine is going to fall out of the car. Turning the engine off and on, several times, while waiting each time clears the problem. Jeep can not reproduce this it so they will not fix it. Will get a message on dash stating to service trasmission and parking break. This has happened at least 5 times that I have documented by pictures and video on my phone however, has happened a lot more. Specific dates documented are 11/19/17, 11/21/17, 11/29/17, 12/13/18, 4/2/19.

Vehicles nine speed automatic transmission does not go to first gear upon making a complete stop. The transmission goes automatically to third gear or second gear. This results in the transmission starting from a stop from third gear (unless manually downshifted) reducing power and can result in a slow take-off, increasing risk of a collision or the vehicle rolling back into vehicles behind the car. I have had several close calls because of this. Ninth gear never engages, this has to result in lowered fuel economy and reduced engine and transmission life as does starting from third gear. I believe the transmission to be defective and have read of numerous complaints from other customers of these exact same problems. The vehicle has received re-programming on all recalls and now Jeep customer service states this is "normal" and "no defect" thus, no repair necessary and not covered by warranty. Vehicle was advertised and sold to me as a "nine speed automatic transmission" in effect, Jeep deceived customers selling them an eight speed semi-automatic transmission. Email chain attached.
