CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2016 Tucson comes with a dual-clutch, 7-speed transmission. But Hyundai forgot to tell you about one key phrase – zero-move. That's right, an alarming number of owners have said their SUV wouldn't accelerate after a stop.

Turns out that's because the transmission's application logic has been stumbling all over itself. Hyundai recalled the issue in September 2016, but it's difficult to say if owners are out-of-the-woods, or if this is just a sign of things to come.

When the car is stationary, it sometimes does not move when you give press the gas pedal. When pressing he gas pedal, the engine will rev, the rpms will increase, but the car will not move or will sometimes sputter and barely crawl. This seems to only happen when trying to accelerate from a stationary position.

I purchased a brand new 2016 Hyundai Tucson. About a month later, we started experiencing a problem with the vehicle. While accelerating, the car seems to lose power and stalls. Then all of a sudden, the power kicks on and causes the car to jolt. This happens erratically and at least 2X per month. It's incredibly dangerous, especially when it happens while I am in an intersection. I received a letter from Hyundai regarding this recall, but the service did not help my vehicle at all. I called the dealership to have it looked at again, and the man stated that this is a common complaint, but the Hyundai corporation is stating that this is 'normal' for dual transmissions.

Occasionally, on a city street at stop signal or stop sign, vehicle fails to accelerate from a stop as gas pedal is pressed. Revs to high RPM's, and as transmission catches up, the vehicle lunges forward violently, nearly causing rear end collision on several different occasions. Continues to happen after two separate recall/dct program updates with Hyundai dealer.

10/12/16: Brought in for recall of dct after calling to schedule a service to address the transmission not accelerating properly and hesitating to change gears. 12/29/16. Returned for same issue with transmission. Service performed a 2nd recall on an upgrade to transmission for same issue. 2/23/17 returned again for same issue. No maintenance performed. Stated that all was functioning properly and that is how a dct should respond. 4/25/17. Returned again for same issue. Stated no problems exists. Engineer was going to be contacted to perform test drive and further investigate issues. Engineer contacted and refused to come and perform test drive. 4/26/17: Contacted Hyundai Consumer Affairs (complain #10185159). Case manager assigned. Stated I would hear within 3-5 days. Never heard. 4/28/17: After speaking with an attorney, sent a certified letter to Hyundai 112 re: Vehicle and wanting to terminate lease B/C they can't fulfill safety and repairs. (heard back from fran in service...no recourse offered) 5/4/17: Contacted Consumer Affairs for a 2nd time. No results. Left message for case manager and her manager. 5/4/17: Spoke to fran (112 Hyundai) waiting to hear of appointment with engineer. 5/10/17: Contacted by claims to schedule an appointment on 5/18 with engineer and regional manager. 5/18/17: Prior to test drive, engineer claimed there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and that the transmission was designed to perform as it was. Completed test drive with engineer while he provided tips of how to properly drive with a dct and how the vehicle was designed with the hesitation known. 5/27/17: Contacted a private transmission specialist regarding hesitation/jerking of transmission. Provided a test drive and it was agreed that the transmission was hesitating and jerking when trying to accelerate which is not normal.

2016 Hyundai Tucson 1.6T with the 7spd dual clutch transmission refused to respond to accelerator pedal after starting from a dead stop. Situation: Stopped at an intersection waiting to turn left, proceeded to accelerate from the stop to turn left through the intersection at ~5mph and half way through the middle of the turn/intersection the car refused to respond to gas pedal input for increased speed. I tried depressing the gas pedal more, but no response. I completely let off the pedal and then re-applied and the car started to respond with regular power delivery with the transmission shuddering a bit. Cars approaching the intersection had to wait for me to get through, luckily it wasn't extremely busy with fast moving traffic. I feel this 'random' lack of response to the gas pedal poses a serious safety issue. The Tucson has had the latest T1B dct update (16-01-057) applied at the dealer since 3/11/17. This is not the first time the car has given me issues accelerating or continuing to accelerate. Transmission also experiences intermittent problems when asking to downshift under 3/4-full throttle conditions - it often will half engage and feel like it's slipping in gear eventually applying the right get with no slip. This creates questionable passing on the highway since you never really know what the transmission is going to do when requesting it to perform multiple downshifts under power.

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson eco with 1.6T transmission problem. Vehicle transmission will fail to move vehicle forward at times and has caused us to be stuck in an intersection numerous times even though vehicle says its in drive. Rpms just rev to redline but vehicle will not move until you let off the gas and let it idle back down to idle engine speed. Then you can try it again and it drives normal. One time had to shut entire vehicle off in the intersection and restart it to get it to move.

10-31-2015 purchased vehicle. 10-31-2015. 3-2-2016 mileage 1691, returned vehicle back to Hyundai dealer for ECM engine control module & tcm transmission control module software updates per TY8 hard shifting complaints. 7-22-2016 campaign 145 secondary hood latch repair. 10-21-2017 campaign 149 ECM & tcm software update for dct problems. 5-2-2017 T1B ECM software update for dct problems. Software update improves transmission jerking from 0 to 15 mph. 5-21-2017 mileage 12,500, outside temp 70 deg F, stranded on interstate, transmission in drive but not vehicle not moving. Vehicle towed to dealer. Hyundai service finds faulty fuel tank pressure sensor and bad wiring harness. Replaces both. 5-23-2017 picked up vehicle and drove normal on way home. I have lost confidence in this vehicle and wished I had purchased the SE model with the 6 speed conventional transmission and not the 7 speed dual clutch transmission. Time will tell if this last repair will solve the numerous dct problems.

Faulty dual clutch transmission causes the vehicle to hesitate without warning when the gas pedal is pushed. This happens at random times and with different degrees of severity. This has happened on many occasions and creates a major safety hazard as the acceleration may not be there when needed. Hyundai has known their dct is faulty and they have not been able to fix this problem after several attempts, including 2 recalls for this issue. Lives are at risk for not only the driver but other drivers as well.

The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson. While the vehicle was stationary, it jerked when the contact removed his foot from the brake pedal. The contact stated that it felt as if the vehicle would stall. It was diagnosed that the jerking condition was a feature of the vehicle due to the presence of a dual clutch. The vehicle was repaired and the clutch actuator was replaced, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 17,000.

The transmission doesn't engage after a stop, lags when accelerating on city streets, and often stutters when accelerating in turns or on city streets. I have taken the vehicle into the dealer for computer updates that were supposed to fix the problem twice and the problems keep occurring. Recently, this led to my almost being hit when I was trying to pull out in traffic and the vehicle wouldn't move then suddenly a quite a few seconds later it lurched forward. I had to hit the breaks to keep from being hit. This has happened before, but this time a car almost hit me. I feel unsafe driving this car.

When the car slows down and then speeds up in traffic, turning at stop signs or on street lights, or pulling out onto the street, the engine will hesitate/freeze up.. this results in a delay of movement followed by the car lunging forward when it does begin to drive again, creating a very unsafe and terrifying situation. I initially took it in for the recall on October 6, 2016. Since then I have brought it back to the dealership I purchased it at to fix the issue two more times. When I called back the fourth time I was told to contact Hyundai corporate. Hyundai corporate has only told me to not drive in eco mode and to return to the dealership to learn about driving in the three different modes. I have also done that and both of the men in the service department looked very confused and told me Hyundai does not tell them to have customers drive in any particular mode. What they did tell me was that given my situation and it happening in all three modes I should use the modes which feels the safest for me. This is in no way a solution as all three modes are potentially life threatening and I experience this multiple times every single time I drive my car.

I have a 2016 Hyundai Tucson turbo. When I first got it I thought the gas pedal was sticking but come to find out it was a transmission problem. The transmission has been "updated " twice but the car continues to choke when you step on the gas and then lurch forward. I believe I am going to rear end someone. Everytime I visit the dealership I complain about this problem and their solution is to "drive it like a stick shift". I bought an automatic........

Same complaint as before they cannot duplicate at dealership. There is not a recall on this VIN number even though it was manufactured during the dates of the recall I found out. I am seriously thinking about hiring a lawyer because I do not want a car that is not safe for my grandchildren. This time again would not accelerate when going into traffic. It is very terrifying.

Dangerous transmission. Whilie the car was in motion going down an on-ramp to get onto the interstate I proceeded to merge into traffic only to find out that I did not have any power. The car was still on but there was not any acceleration, I kept pressing and pressing and nothing. So I pulled off the road so a semi wouldn't run over me. I put the car in park and then waited about a minute. I was able to get the car moving a little bit at a time. Once I reached 70mph it was like it wouldn't shift gears. So I decided to drive it to the dealership. While stopped at a stop light I proceeded into the intersection only to have it not be able to move anymore so I was blocking traffic. I put the car in park and did a diagnostic only to find out there were no issues. Clearly this function does not do it's job in reporting the problem. The service manager was not able to get me an appointment until 5 days later to look at it. Only to find out they could not replicate this issue. I thought it was in my head because this started when I only had the car a month. You never know when it is going to happen. Also, the car will lunge at low speeds and sort of buck.

I have had two emergency recalls due to transmission slipping, jerking at slow speeds, almost stalling out and actcellerating abnormally with the RPM's racing. During each recall, the dealership completes an updated software on the transmission and when I leave the dealership, my vehicle noticeably drives much smoother and normal. A few days later, the Tucson transmission problem begins all over again like the it acted before. I feel this 2016 Hyundai tuscon eco 1.6lt SUV is a danger to myself and other vehicles on the road. What is my recourse on this continuous transmission problem" it has about 11K in mileage. Can this vehicle be lemon law'd as I have owned it for under a year"

Vehicle hesitates, jerks, jumps when starting up from a slow or stopped position. When crossing traffic, turning left, I have to be certain I have plenty of room in case the car hesitates. Extremely unsafe! I purchased the car 7/29/2016 and I have had the car into the dealership 5 times for the same problem since then. The first 4 times I had the car in they updated the transmission software. On one occasion there had been an actual recall, however it did not fix the problem. On the last time I had the car in, I asked the service manager to ride with me. The car did hesitate, jerk coming out of a stop at a stop sign and he told me that was how the transmission was supposed to act and that I needed to learn how to drive the car. It would preform better in the sport mode. The car continues to repeat the same hesitation on an almost daily basis. I will be contacting Hyundai corporate to see if vehicle is covered under lemon law.

I purchased the car in November 2015. I always had a slight jerking of the car while in traffic or taking off from a stop sign. I would say towards the end of the summer of 2016 it got much worse. To the point where I'm terrified to drive it in traffic. I commute almost 40 miles each way to work every day and my heart is in my throat every time I'm behind the wheel in traffic afraid I'm going to get rear ended. Hyundai came out with the recall on the dct (dual clutch transmission) that was suppose to fix the problem. I had my car serviced for the recall in October 2016 and it never fixed the problem. I brought it in to get serviced again on April 1, 2017 for the same exact recall and here I am again still having the same problem. I have a infant and I am terrified to have my family in this car.
