CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2000 Honda Accord suffers from widespread transmission failure, subframe rust, & problems with the airbag system (SRS). We recommend avoiding this model year like the plague.
The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.
Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.
The SRS warning light likes to come on due to a defective seat belt sensor -- typically the driver's side. This sensor is covered under Honda's lifetime seat belt warranty, but some dealers charge a $100+ "diagnostic fee" or tell customers the entire SRS unit ($800) is bad.

This is Honda Accord V6, I have noticed a clunk when operating the vehicle in reverse. I have taken it to a local dealer and they say they cannot reproduce the problem. They informed me that there aren't any complaints or issuances on the bulletin boards of this problem. However, there are. I believe it is referred to as the 'reverse clunk' problem. This problem is not consisent every time I operate my car in reverse, but it happens about 90% of the time. The car is operated under normal driving conditions. This is a manufacturing defect that I want fixed. When you pay for quality that is what I expect to get. I will also be contacting the Honda corporation about this problem.
Transmission when in reverse jolted, consumer stated that it felt like he backed into something or rolled over an object. Honda said they had about 300 complaints, only V6 engines. Consumer has been to dealer a few times with the complaint. Finally called Honda who admitted the defective problem. Vehicle had a defective airbag light.
Transmission made a loud sqeaking noise and the air bag system failed twice. The dealer was informed appx. 7 day after the car was purchased of the problem and insisted it was just new car noises they will work themselves out. And again in April may I informed the dealer and the same things was said. Now I have a replaced transmission and they do not know why the SRS system keeps failing.
The day after we purchased the vehicle we noticed a loud "thump" when putting the car in reverse. This noise was heard almost every time the vehicle was shifted into reverse. Upon calling the service dept. At the dealer where the vehicle was purchased we were told this was a normal sound when shifting into reverse. The noise continued to happen & it was obvious it was not normal so we again called the dealer's service dept. Which then said it was indeed not normal & to bring it in. It apparently was a known defect in 2000 Accord V6 models. The transmission was replaced. In Aug 2000 the car would not start. It was not a battery problem as lights, etc. Worked. I tried several times to start the car & upon turning the ignition had no response. None of the dash lights indicating engine trouble remained on, although they did intially come on & then go out. I let the car sit for 15-20 mins at which time I then was able to start the car. This problem has not yet repeated itself.
While driving in heavy traffic and accelerating vehicle hesitated which could have resulted in a collision, cause unknown. Dealer could not identify the cause of the problem.
Honda replaced the converter and transmission, but the car still vibrates sometimes on the level but most of the time when going up hill. I am almost ready to trade the car in for a different make. The local mechanics cant seem to be able to help.

This is my second time filling out this report, I just want to clarify something. I receiveda new transmission when the car had only 1308 miles on it because the first transmission clunked everytime I backed up. The replacement transmission rides nowhere as nice as the first transmission in forward gears. I explained all the problems in the first report I submitted to you. Thanks.
Transmission replaced at 1308 miles & now the car doesn't ride smooth. At lower speed the car is jerky, hesitates, slow down very quickly as soon as you left off the gas, feels llike the brake is on. Also has a noise coming from front right of car everytime I start up and pull away I hear it once. Didn't hear it with the original transmission. The whole feel of the car driving is very different with the new transmission and I really don't like it. It's not smooth and flowy like the first transmission. It's very tight and feels like you constantly need gas. Rides terrible on hills. I told Honda that my wheels pull left on highway driving and they told me that's normal. Not happy here.
