CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2000 Honda Accord suffers from widespread transmission failure, subframe rust, & problems with the airbag system (SRS). We recommend avoiding this model year like the plague.

The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.

Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.

The SRS warning light likes to come on due to a defective seat belt sensor -- typically the driver's side. This sensor is covered under Honda's lifetime seat belt warranty, but some dealers charge a $100+ "diagnostic fee" or tell customers the entire SRS unit ($800) is bad.

I have a 2000 Honda Accord vtec V6. I take good care of it, and all of a sudden all the air bag systems have shutdown indicated by the SRS light. Now I am starting to have electrical failures left and right. Majority of my warning llights on, my console which include battery, all doors, trunk, and brake light lights are on. The transmission is starting to slip. I don't know if I got a bad Honda from the batch, but just being 2 years old, it is experiencing some tough problems. I also have the extened Honda plan upto 100,000 miles/6 yrs.. but of course the plan does not cover any of my problems. I don't have money to waste on the car that is nearly new, and I still owe 23000 on. Please help.

Automatic transmissions problems still persist. Transmission has been replaced three times already. Each time there is a new occurrence of problems. For this latest transmission when driving in congested traffic areas where the transmission does not always go to the next gear, it will "lag" and fall back to the lower gear as if the brake was being applied very hard. Took the car to the service center and was told by the mechanic that the "transmission is shifting through all of its points normally". I indicated to them this is not the reason when I came to them. They ignored my reasons for coming to them and they then proceeded to claim that its normal for the transmission to "hang" and fall back due to "the computer getting confused as to what gear to go to". as a result its normal for the transmission to "lag" or "hang". I have never experienced this problem with the other two transmissions I had....so, this is anything but normal !!!

I started to feel a little slip in the transmission when taking off from a stop sign or backing out of my drive way. I called and set up an appointment with the Honda dealer. They could not get me in for three days so I took it to midas it. The man told me I had some very bad transmission problems and could not touch it. He said it was leaking fluid out the left side of the transmission and all he could do would be to fill it up with the special fluid that Honda uses. So $80 bucks later I got some fluid in it and then called the local Honda dealership to ask why my 2000 Accord that I paid $25,000 had a bad transmission after only 72,000 miles. I was told that, well there has been a problem with the 2000 Accord auto transmissions. I am being told to bring it into the shop to be looked at for a fee of $72 an hour and they would try to detect the problem. And I am being told that supposedly that Honda had extended the warranty to 72 months or 100,000 miles. I can only hope to god that this is true. Or I am going to have to pay at least $3,500 for a new transmission. Why was I not told about this problem at the time of purchase, or the time of all the different maintenance schedules I had done" I had ran my Honda civic up to 240,000 miles with no transmission problems before I purchased this 2000 Accord and I was going to buy a new 2003 Accord next month. Although now I have lost all confidence in the car that I had thought was the very best on the market! is this going to be under a warranty".

Car was taken to the moreno valley Honda and spreen Honda regarding transmission problems and we were told that the transmission was fine. My husband owns a transmission repair shop and had to tell spreen Honda what was wrong with the transmission. I finally called Honda's main office and it took them about a week to remedy the problem. Home office contacted the dealer and requested the transmission be replaced. Spreen Honda had the car for several weeks and did not offer rental car or reimbursement. Terrible customer service all around. My husband could have fixed the problem but the car was about 2 years old and under warranty when the problems started to occur. The brakes are constantly squeeking even after replacement. The material on the rear interior door handles has melted. Passenger seat belts are extremely tight. This 2000 Honda Accord SE has been a total disappointment.

Heard a grinding noise from the front of the car. Upon investigation at the dealership, they said it needs a new transmission. I have lost faith in the quality of Honda. I am going get the new transmission put in tomorrow. I will post about that experience later (I hope it is good). However, because my warranty is going to run out in less than 3000 miles, I need an extended power train warranty from Honda. If Honda does not come around, I will trade this carr and never buy another Honda in my life and I will never recommend it to anyone I do not consider as my enemy.

The problem I have is the transmission leak(bleeding oil) this problem happens twice @ 22500 mi & 39929 mi. The first time happened the dealer added dye and told me to drive it for a week and bring ther car back for check up. They told me that the pressure hose is loose so they tightened it back that was find with me. But then @39929mi it happen again and I took it back to them at the dealer in diamond bar they told me that there is no leak because the oil fliud is at the full level. But when I asked him why is that there are lots of dirt build up around the transmission and it is still wet(oil mix with dirt). They could not give me an answer but just told me to drive the car back and wait to see if it still leak. This is so unprofessional. And all along I do feel that the transmission is not shifting as smooth as before. I know that there are a lot of Honda owners that have transmmision problems as well. I hope that this could be resolve. Please let me know thanks.
