This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Speedometer bounces between 50 and 85 miles per hr.speedometer was replaced at 16000 mi. On warranty, and went bad again at 38000 mi. Ford refuses to replace again.
Speedometer needle flies up to 70-75, then down below current speed. Was replaced in March of 1998, has now failed again. Both times, the dealer has refused to pay for any of the repair. The first failure occurred at 36,700 (barely out of warranty); the dealer would not even pay for half the repair. I have never heard of a speedometer failing even once; this one has now failed twice. This is a safety hazard and should be recalled.
Speedometer/odometer is inoperable, it does not register accurate speed rates. Also, it has been replaced twice, but the problem has not been corrected.
The speedometers on 1995 Ford Taurus cars are failing regularly, and Ford knows they are defective. They are replacing the defective units with other defective units, until the warranty expires and the owner is left with a bill in excess of $600 to replace the unit. Due to the extremely high cost of replacement, most owners will opt to drive in an unsafe condition, I.e. without a working speedometer. Ford should redesign this speedometer and replace all existing units in a general recall as a safety precaution.

After 35 mph speedometer needle bounces to 100. Consumer does not know how fast he is traveling. Ford has issued a tsb bulletin on this reoccurring problem.
A faulty speedometer; at 36,000 mile dealer replaced speedometer because intermittently the dial would jump back and forth or not register at all. Now at 45,000 the problem is reoccurring. Dealer / manufacturer notified and refused to repair unless cost goes to consumer.
Original speedometer became erratic after 21,745 & was replaced by the dealer. Replacement speedometer is now erratic (will go to the max. Speed indication of 85) when actual speed is much slower. Since replacement has been over 12 months Ford will not replace it again.
The speedometer squeals and the needle begins bouncing and registering the incorrect speed when traveling at 50 mph or more. This is the second speedometer head on this car as the original also failed with the same complaint. The original was replaced under warranty but Ford dealer says that the replacement is not covered under warranty. I have seen dozens of complaints for the identical part failure and at least service bulletins listed in your databases. I feel that this item presents a significant safety hazard and do not know what other components are being affected by the behavior of the speedo. Can you provide any guidance in getting relief from the manufacturer? I do not see why I and others affected should have to pay to replace an obviously defective part that Ford knows about and still installs as a replacement part.
