While driving on highway traveling 55mph all of sudden heard a sound and noticed that the speedometer was going down. Had the vehicle towed to mechanic. Contacted dealer. Engine failed and replaced.
Speedometer no longer registers correct speed. It just makes a grinding noise and bounces from approximately 45 mph rading to pegged position. I understand that this failure has been an ongoing problem with this make/model vehicle but Ford has elected to ignore it and place the safety of the owner in jeopardy and the cost of repair also on the owner.
Speedometer indicates incorrect speed and ocillates back and forth wildly at above 45mph, this is very dangerous and should be a recall situation, its evident that Ford Motor Co. Knows there is a problem and is not making an attempt to correct it!I
The original speedometer and now the replacement have failed. At about 50 mph the needle will swing wildly between 50 and 75. A local Ford dealer said Ford is aware of the problem, they are frequently replacing the speedometers, but Ford will not issue a recall. The cost of each replacement will be between $300 and $800.
Once this vehicle reaches a certain high speed speedometer needle gauge begins to float, not reading the accurate speed. Speedometer has been replaced once before, and has to be replaced again. Dealer has been contacted.
Speedometer pointer jumps around, giving unreliable and false speed indications. Assembly also makes squeeking noises. Ford service bulletin # 99-7-9 recomends replacement; failure caused by improper oiling during assembly. Ford/dealer no help. Dealer indicates there "may" be a manufacturing problem. This is second speedometer to fail in the car. First at 25000 miles, this one started about 36000.
When speedometer breaks, the needle will start jumping back and forth, and does not indicate the correct speed. At the same time, there would a series of click, click noise at the speedometer. My brother's 95 Taurus experienced the same problem and he is going to file a complaint too.
: speedometer needle does not register the correct speed. When driving above 45 mph the needle fluctuates. This is the third(3rd) time for the same problem.
Speedometer keeps jumping while driving. I cannot tell what speed I am driving the car at. From what I have come to understand this is a common problem with the Ford Taurus.
