Vehicle began to vibrate and consumer took vehicle to have the wheels balanced 3 times and the front end aligned but the truck was still vibrating, consumer believes there are one or more tread separations in the tire, this has caused poor steering control. Nlm

All 4 tires have been cracking and coming apart in chuncks, besides the one blow out. Tires are split between the treads. Firestone refuses to admit the tires are defected, and won't cover them under warrannty. The tires won't hold added air, they keep deflating. Was on way to work just 15 miles away from home. Had just exited I-70 driving at 65 mph in heavy traffic into downtown columbus, Ohio. Speed was reduced to 30-35 mph on city street when I heard air whistle and an immediate thumping from left rear of vehicle. Changed tire and discovered steel belt was coming through middle of the tread. This was before announced Firestone problems. I went to Firestone dealer and had it replaced with a new tire of same model. Dealer claimed it was probably a road hazzard. Though, I did not run over anything or hit any obstacles before this occurred. I firmly believe my tire was defective from the factory. I consider myself very, very lucky considering I was at great risk to myself and other motorists only moments before.( dot number: Tire size: 225-70-15 )

While driving on highway 291 around independence Missouri, the rear tire blew out. Upon stopping to access the damage, I realized the tire was now in 2 pieces. The tread was laying alongside the road, and the rest of the tire was still attached to the wheel. I took the tire to a local Firestone dealer where they insisted that the tire did not malfunction. They said driver error caused the tread separation. I had no other choice but to purchase another tire. Now other tires have been recalled, and Firestone tells me my tires are safe. I don't believe this since I know otherwise from this incident.( dot number: W2uu tire size: P22570R15 )

We have had problems with 2 of our tires in less than 17,000 miles. Back in may of this year we brought our Ranger back to dealership, for a noise in the front of vehicle. Turned out one of the tires, which has been properly inflated to correct air pressure had developed lumps. They said there was nothing they could do. They did not warranty tires. Now we have the samething happening to a second tire. We feel something should be done, if for no other reason, peace of mind! these tires have been rotated and balanced on a regular basis. We would appreciate it if you would reply to this letter in a timely manner and hopfully you can regain our faith, once again in big businesses. Thank you.( dot number: Tire size: 245/16 )

Tires developed a "hop" "skitter" bounce, momentary loss of traction, whatever, "pushed" thru curves, or during avoidance manuvers. The situation was somewhat ameliorated by putting the cold inflation up to "max" not Ford' recommends... the garage had the patent obfuscation ready, "it's the nature of the beast" and would do nothing. The tires were exchanged for another brand all-weather M+S tire, which was speed rated (sustained 130+) traction a, temperature a... during the trade-out it was discovered; by the tire dealer, that a rim was defective. The point being the dealer; either made no attempt to really diagnose the problem, or his staff was incompetent. The new tires performed flawlessly, even in heavy rains at hi-speed. We would be willing to bet that the Wilderness AT and the Firestone ATX have weak sidewalls that flex too much, esp' at the Ford recommend psi' or lazy people running the tire underinflated at an even more dangerous level, generating tremendous heat and failures at hiway speeds, esp where the air gets very hot... there is also a "computer controlled" engine kill/shut down that manifested itself at the apex of 7 vehicle pass, on a 2-lane and almost got me killed: The dealer denied its' existence, failed to say it was there after a Ford rep admitted it was there as part of compliance to meet cafe requirements(this could have already caused a lot accidents, and is fraud). Finally the last thing is; maybe minor, but a large number of control wires for the X-mission and X-fer case are exposed and can be ripped out travelling over "bush" or "scrub." Potential fatal problems could arise... thanks for listening I( dot number: Tire size: 245/75/16 )
