CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Fusion builds off the 2010's reputation. That's not a good thing.

The first thing that jumps out is the ridiculous amount of power steering complaints. It grinds, it squeals, and it eventually just fails.

And if losing power steering isn’t enough for you, how about a sudden loss of engine power? That combination is enough to achieve clunker status.

The heater and air conditioning fan overheated and melted. Fan would start and stop intermittently and then quit working. Whole unit had to be replaced.

I bought the 2011 Ford Fusion new. On last year the driver side window would not stay up. It was repaired for about $350. One year later the driver side door handle stopped working. I can't get out of the car unless I roll the window down or crawl to the passenger side. I had just arrived at work and turned the ignition off. I pulled on the handle and the door wouldn't open.

This morning when I got to work I went to get out of my car. I turned it off and opened the door but the door would only partly open and would not let me out. I have to now roll down my window to let myself out. I look completely ridiculous and this seems to be more than a common problem that should be extending the manufacturing warranty one. Let alone last week M Y throttle went and I am replacing that also!!!!!!!!!!!!! couple months ago the roof inside the car also started to fall down! this is just pure insane I am fed up with this car I would never purchase it again!!! I don't have this kind of money to keep repairing a car.

First at about 42000 miles in October 2012 the driver seat became so hot it created 1st degree burns on my husband. The seat heater went out soon after. Needs to be fixed. The seat could cause a fire at 55000 miles the driver door handle became unlatched within the door and stopped opening from the inside. What if I had a wreck and couldn't get out? needs to be recalled for this issue. I've heard it's common on the Fusion. The front door speakers went out soon after all of this. At 90000 miles the passenger seat heater went out. Same burning hot thing but this time no one was burned. At 95000 miles the safety system has now gone out. It flashes that there is a problem with the rear park aid and a fault with the cross traffic system. I've read that the rear driver side speakers cause this. The front driver side speakers went out 2 yrs ago. Maybe these are connected. It seems the whole car has problems with fuses and electrical wires either burning out way too quickly. My vehicle is a 2011 manufactured in October of 2010

First my passengers side door stopped locking and the handle on the inside would not close, then the drivers side door would not open from the inside. I am not rough on my door handles because they are made of plastic and I don't want to break them, but both doors within a few days of each other stopped working from the inside. This is dangerous and it is a known problem to Ford there are active recalls out on other Ford vehicles for the same thing, but my car isn't listed as one of the recalls. This matter should be investigated further and the recall should include all Ford door handles. What would have happened if my passengers side door would have opened while driving?

On August 1st, 2015, I was on my way home at about 10 pm at night. I was going up a hill that curved to the left and suddenly lost control of my steering wheel. Instead of turning left the car proceeded to go straight where I then began to panic. I then slammed my brake to the floor and it somehow unexpectedly sped up. I crashed into a power line and smashed the front end into a tree that had totaled my vehicle. I have seat belt burns on my neck, stitches on my knee, abrasions, suffered from a minor concussion, a large amount of bruises, small cuts on my hands and forehead. I have full medical documents of my injuries including pictures. I later found out there were 2 recalls on the vehicle a power steering and 1 full throttle body recall. The power steering was completely replaced previously in 7/16/2013 & 10/26/2013 and there was no solution to the throttle body recall except a extend warranty. I also went to the car dealership where I purchased my vehicle 2 days before the accident and they mentioned nothing about any of the recalls. They also had no clue why it was making the strange noises and told me it was fine after 4 hours of service. Im still currently experiencing pain in my shoulder that was diagnosed at the orthopedics on August 18th. I have to attend physical therapy twice a week for 6 weeks. I currently have shooting pains in my left shoulder & muscle spasms. Also my leg has nerve damage where im still experiencing numbness at this time. There is also permanent scarring from the seatbelt burns & the air bag ripping off the skin of my left thumb. We have documentation of everything including the police report, car diagnosis and the vehicle is still at the tow lot. No one else was involved or injured however there is documentation of the previous power steering recall accident.

The driver side door swung open while driving around a bend at approximately 35mph. The car on the other side of the road had to slam on his brakes and swerve to avoid my door. After stopping I was unable to then open the door from the inside. The oncoming driver and car did not have any injury or damage. Testing the driver door I found it opened from the outside but after the door was open it would not shut. The door bounced off the frame and hit me in the chin. I was able to close the door if I lifted the lever in the door. I repeated this a few times, every the door opened from the outside it would not shut again without lifting the lever. However, sometimes when the door shut it latched closed and other times it did not. I called my local Ford office to check for a recall, I was told the 2011 was not on the recall list.

Went to town and parked the car went in to the store and when I started to leave I noticed that the power steering didn't work. I drove the car home with no power steering. It's a good thing this didn't happen while going the speed limit. The dealer said that this is a common problem my question is why has it not been recalled if it's a common problem.

10/01/2014 turning into my school parking lot and suddenly a light came on, power steering stopped working and 'power steer failure" started flashing in my dash. Was able to come to a stop and turn off my car safely. It reset itself when I restarted it. 10/3/2014 second time, going 55 mph down a highway, same thing happened. Was able to safely pull over to kill car. Luckily I was able to steer enough to pull over.

Driving at city speeds and the power steering completely fails. Turn the vehicle off and then on again and it fixes the problem. Drive some more and a few days later, it happens again. A few days later, it completely goes. Take the car to the local Ford dealer and am charged $1832.35 for a new rack and pinion. Ladies and gentlemen, a rack and pinion won't fix itself if you turn the car on and off. I did some research on this problem on line at fordfusionforum.com. It seems to be an ABS module, not the rack and pinion. Called Ford today and they said no reimbursement was possible. A new rack and pinion for a car with only 21 thousand miles on it? crazy.

In the beginning of December while driving my friends home my Fusion suddenly jolted and then I lost the ability to accelerate. The service wrench displayed and I had to come to a complete stop in a neighborhood. A few weeks later while driving home the same thing happened and I had to pull over to turn my car off and then on again, which seems to be the only way it will allow me to drive. Fast forward to January and I began having troubles again. This time I was on the highway and my car jolted and lost the ability to accelerate. This was a major safety issue because the highway I drive on is under construction and has no shoulder. Imagine if it would have been a busy night and I had to come to a complete stop. This has happened a total of 8 times. Seems like a huge safety issue. I bought this car used with 34,000 miles on it and have to drive a lot for work.

While traveling along a 2 lane route, at approximately 55 mph, the power in the car just died. The throttle would not propel the vehicle, there was no accelaration available and luckily I was able to shift the vehicle away from congested traffic. The wrench lights were flashing, the car sputtered while this started or occurred but when I pressed the throttle the car did not respond at all and the car came to a stop. I attempted to press the gas several times but again the car did not respond and was dead (the car was still on just it would not move). I then turned the car off, waited a few moments, then tried to start it again, it sputtered but started about 20-30 seconds into my attempt. Once I started it, I engaged the throttle while in park and it responded, I then put the car in drive and it drove normally for the remaining 10 minutes of my drive.

Was driving on a local road, speed limit was 35mph, I was slowing down to stop at a red light then it turned green so I accelerated on the gas and then the vehicle started to lose power and and did not want to go and started acting like it was going to stall, so I pulled over parked and turned the vehicle off and then waited a few minutes and turn the car back on and the car seemed fine and I was able to drive again, this has happened at least 3 times in since then and I was told it was the throttle body that needed to be replaced, I am going to replaced it and hopefully it will do the trick. I heard that this is also a problem with other Ford cars and is currently under investigation for a recall, I hope this letter helps with getting a recall submitted.

I was driving and needed to make a right hand turn I proceeded to make the right turn but as soon as I did my car lost power and a car turning behind me almost ran into the back of me. I pulled over put my flashers on and turned the car off, I let the car sit for about 2 minutes before starting it again. I got it started and put it in drive but as soon as I stepped on the gas pedal the car felt like it was going to stall so I put it back into park turnd the car off and tried again only this time when I stepped on the gas pedal nothing happened. I eventually got the car back to my house. I went to try driving the car today (8/30/13) and the car did the exact same thing while I was driving, it just lost all power. I feel that this is very dangerous and from what I read online this is happening a lot.

Every time the car reaches 45 mph, there is a ringing which sounds just like a telephone ring. It is loud enough that even passengers can hear it. The only time it happens is at 45 mph, and it happens every time that speed is met. We have had it to the Ford dealership twice and we are always told "nothing has registered on the computer, and unless it registers on the computer, we can not diagnose the problem". now, the car is out of warranty, and both times it was taken to the dealership it was in warranty. I have contacted Ford motor directly and they do not have any other reports of this issue and directed me here to register the complaint.

Went to start car and it would not start. Ford roadside towed it the next day. After trying various things for 3 weeks Ford engineering called to tell me it was due to a lightning strike. Insurance believes it is a warranty claim as the car is still under warranty; Ford will not honor this as a warranty claim. No one at Ford has been able to give me a cost for repairs already attempted or for further repairs to make the car work normally again. I feel there is a deeper electrical issue with the car, but Ford is claiming there is nothing in the car that could supply this kind of electricity to fry several modules, fuses, and light bulbs. Worried about a bigger issue which is not being diagnosed and fixed properly. Could be a safety hazard.
