CarComplaints.com Notes: Ford significantly updated the Fusion for the 2010 model year. We wish they hadn't

Throttle body issues have led to a ton of reports about a sudden deceleration and loss of power while driving. Ford issued a “customer satisfaction program” in March 2014 that, unsurprisingly, has left very few customers satisfied.

2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

Turned car on to go run errands and warning went off in car about power steering assist failure. Lost power steering. This was reproduced at the car dealership, and I did have to drive my car without power steering to the dealership (which was difficult as I-??ve always had power steering). They were also able to get the same warning at the dealership. As far as I know component and vehicle inspected at dealership but unknown about manufacture, etc. This was the first time I saw the warning, when the power steering went out.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact had turned the vehicle on and as she was reversing (R) out of her driveway at approximately 3 MPH, she felt that the steering wheel had become very stiff, and the steering wheel was difficult to turn to the left or right. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering). The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Power Steering Failure- With warning lamps initiated after driving forward. I own a 2010 Ford Fusion with only 58k miles. Never had a problem before- - Incident 1- While getting in the vehicle on a straight path after starting the car and going forward the cars -??Power Steering Failure-?? lamp turns on and there is no turning or moving on the steering wheel other than going forward. The electric power steering completely locks up and you can-??t turn the wheel which is a definite safety hazard and can put me in a position where I might have to swerve or move over- Both Safety being stuck on the roadway and being stuck only to go forward and back. - I see there was a recall on 2011 through 2013 Ford Fusions for the Power Steering Electric rack and pinion but not 2010 models. Why is this not on the same recall- I researched the Power Steering replacement and its the same 2010-2013- Same part to change out. I strongly believe since its the same issue as I read others had to replace on the recall that 2010 should be included in this recall based on this is the same electric Power Steering in those recalled models and year. We have to take it to the dealership tomorrow because its an electric power steering issue and they said it wasn-??t included in the recall but they know about the problem. The vehicle has to be towed to the dealership and the only movement is forward and reverse when this Power Steering Failure occurs.

Power steering system malfunction. My safety and passenger safety were at risk. The problem has not been confirmed by a Dealer or independent service center. No inspections. There were two others incidents when the power steering system did not engage. The warning light came on displaying "power steering assist fault" message. I read the owners manual and did as instructed. Basically, turn off the car and restart. The steering worked as usual. The recent incident was June 9, 2023. I was trying to back out of the driveway when the warning light came on and the steering wheel would not turn in either direction (left to right). I turned off the car, restarted it and tried to back out again. Warning light came on, again. No movement. I tried again. I couldn't steer as I put the shifter in drive to go forward and backwards. The car is inoperable.

The power steering on my 2010 Ford Fusion has failed intermittently. Ford has a power steering recall for Ford Fusions made after 2010. I believe they should also include earlier model years in the recall since it is a common issue. The car says -??Power Steering Assist Fault-?? every time I turn it on and the power steering doesn-??t work. If I try to drive it, it also says -??Service Advancetrac-??. If you google these errors, you will find many, many forums where people with 2010 Ford Fusions have this exact issue. The problem was intermittent at first and could be solved by turning off the car and starting it again. Now it cannot be solved no matter what we try. People online report replacing the entire steering rack, only for the problem to persist. Something is wrong here.

On March 10, 2023, the electrical power steering unit on this vehicle failed. The vehicle was returned to us on March 17, 2023. On March 27, 2023 the power steering again failed on this vehicle after 400 miles of driving. We received the vehicle several days later after the repair. On June 22, 2023, all the lights and warnings for the power steering unit came on again. This time it failed again after 1900 miles of driving. Luckily for us, the steering continued to function as long as the engine was not turned off. Three power steering failures in three months seems to point to a problem with this type steering unit. Had the steering stopped working while driving the vehicle, the chances of having an accident were almost certain. The first failure showed me the steering wheel cannot be turned no matter how much I tried.

Power Steering Assist not operating causing the steering of the vehicle to not operate and not being able to steer the car. I was lucky to get the car stopped off the highway before crashing the vehicle. I was on the I-95 going 70 mph when the steering locked up. I thought we were going to die! The power steering assist warning came on and I could not steer the car going 70 mph. If this isn't a major safety hazard I don't know what is. Ford Motor Company has many recalls on Ford and Lincoln for this same problem. In fact, a 2011 Ford Fusion has a recall for the power steering assist malfunction. I cannot afford to pay over $2000 to have Ford repair the vehicle, I am a disabled Vet with a very limited income. Now I have a vehicle sitting in my driveway that cannot be driven. Why are many other Ford and Lincoln vehicles with the same power steering assist issues recalled but not the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid with the same steering issues" Check Google, many 2010 Ford Fusion owners are having this issue and Ford Motor Company does nothing to help. Who is responsible if I crash this vehicle, get injured all due to a malfunction that is apparent in many other Fords and Lincolns but just my 2010 Ford Fusion"

The contact stated that the -??Service Power Steering-?? and -??Advancetrac-?? warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the power steering had failed once before and that he had just picked the vehicle up from the dealer when the power steering failed again. The contact stated that the dealer advised that the diagnostic test had retrieved DTC code: P07AE. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering). The failure mileage was approximately 166,000.

The Power Steering Assist Fault would occasionally come on and reset itself if I turn the vehicle off then back on. Well, I was with my partner out and about and got in my vehicle, went to start and the message popped up. So I tried restarting the vehicle and it didn't work. I tried multiple times and to no prevail has it reset. Go figure it happened right after I paid the loan off. We had to wait for a tow truck to arrive have it towed home. I checked fuses and wiring and battery voltages when I got home and everything checked out normally. I contacted a Ford dealership and they said with the parts, labor, reprogram and alignment it could be up to around $2,500. I don't have this kind of money laying around. Now I don't have a vehicle to get back and forth to work. I've read online about numerous cases of this incident and nothing has come of it yet and that's just really frustrating for a hard working citizen trying to get by. I hope and pray this gets a recall or something ASAP.
