AS of 9/3/2015, THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM HAD BEEN FUNCTIONING INTERMITTENTLY. AS OF YESTERDAY IT NO LONGER FUNCTIONS AT ALL. AT FIRST, THE INFORMATION DISPLAY WOULD SHOW "POWER STEERING SYSTEM FAULT" AND THE POWER ASSIST WOULD BE GONE. ALSO SERVICE ADVANCETRAC. SO I WOULD RESTART THE CAR AND ALL WOULD BE FINE.

YESTERDAY IT REQUIRED 4 RESTARTS BEFORE THE POWER ASSIST WOULD WORK. THEN ON MY LAST TIME USING THE CAR YESTERDAY IT WENT OUT COMPLETELY, NO MATTER HOW MANY RESTARTS THE SYSTEM SHOWS THOSE MESSAGES AND HAS NO POWER ASSIST.

THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS VERY ISSUE FOR 2011-2012 BUT THE 2010S DEFINITELY NEED TO BE INCLUDED AS WELL. IT'S THE SAME CAR AND 2010 OWNERS ARE LEFT TO PAY FOR THE COSTLY REPAIR OURSELVES WHILE THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A KNOWN ISSUE THAT IS BEING RECTIFIED FOR 2011 AND UP OWNERS. IT'S NOT FAIR, FORD NEEDS TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT NOT BURY THEIR HEADS IN THE SAND ON THIS 1 YEAR MODEL. THERE IS FAR TOO MUCH EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT OUR CASE, ALL OF US 2010 OWNERS AREN'T HAVING THE SAME DREAM...

WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR I HAD NO IDEA THE POWER STEERING WAS ELECTRONIC. IN APRIL 2014 I HAD MY DAUGHTER AND GRANDSON WITH ME WHEN I HAD MY FIRST ISSUE WITH THE POWER STEERING SHUTTING DOWN. I WAS AT THE GROCERY STORE AND WAS LEAVING WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED MY MESSAGE CENTER SHOWED POWER STEERING ASSIST SO I SHUT CAR DOWN AND RESTARTED IT AND MESSAGE WENT AWAY.

THE 2ND INCIDENT I HAD MY SON WITH ME AND WE WERE ON THE FREEWAY DOING 65 MPH ON OUR WAY BACK FROM CLEVELAND, OH WHEN THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE CAME ON AND I LOST POWER STEERING SO I PULLED OFF ON BERM AND RESTARTED CAR WHICH RESET THE MESSAGE AND STEERING. THE LAST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON A SUNDAY MORNING AFTER CHURCH. I HAD NO TROUBLES GOING TO CHURCH BUT AFTER CHURCH WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE THE MESSAGE APPEARED AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING. I TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES BUT TO NO AVAIL WAS I ABLE TO RESET THE MESSAGE AND I HAD TO DRIVE HOME WITH NO POWER STEERING.

THIS MORNING I FOUND OUT FROM ANOTHER CHURCH MEMBER THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE 2011-2012 MODELS BUT WHEN SEARCHING THERE WAS NOTHING LISTED FOR THE 2010.

I was on my way to work and I went to pull out of my parking stall and the power steering locked and immediately I was unable to turn the wheel. I parked my vehicle and got a ride to work. The steering was extremely hard and tight.

I looked into problems with the power steering for the 2010 Ford Fusion and learned that there was a recall on approx. 424K vehicles for the same problem but the recall started with 2011. I also found in the research that the solution to the problem of faulty power steering was to update the software for the electrical power steering. As I continued to research I found several cases involving 2010 power steering problems and one complaint which was exactly what I was experiencing. (same codes and display messages)

I took my car to the dealer and had a diagnostic done which cost $118 and they told me $1700 to complete the repairs. The report read Power steering assist fault light, very tight steering/no power steering (found code: U3000:96 in PSCM, won't clear. DIAG REPLACE STEERING GEAR, SET TOE, 1-STEERING GEAR, 1-LOWER STEERING SHAFT BOLT. The representative at the dealer suggested that I call Ford corporate and when I finally got someone on the line, the representative was helpful but stated nothing could be done after discussing with her supervisor.

The danger in this situation is that control of the vehicle is no possible and accident or death could really happen. There is no way to steer the car in a manner which can avoid collision if the steering were to completely fail. I was fortunate that I was not at any type of speed when my power steering stopped working. But how is it possible to have the same codes and issues reported for the 2011 Fusion and be denied because my car was called a 2010 by a cut off date. I could have died or worst killed someone and myself had the problem occurred on the road.

I am a young responsible person needing to get back and forth to work and I need dependable transportation not a death trap. Ford should own up to their faulty manufacturing and be truly concerned with the value of the life of the customer rather than what the cost is going to be for fixing the problem/mistake. Many people feel that it is useless putting in a complaint the corporate individuals are not in danger of crashing. This matter really needs to be addressed.

All I can say to everyone that has a Ford Fusion is stop driving it until you get your steering fixed. We own a 2010 Ford Fusion and was driving home on a road that has a lot of curves and we went around a curve not going fast and the car would not steer and we went off the road that was a drop off. We flipped at least 3 times that we know of. It was a bad crash. We have 3 kids and thank God that the kids were not with us. Did not think nothing about it when the power steering went out the first time and then the second time is when we crashed. The car is totaled and we both are lucky to be alive right now. It happened so fast I didn't have time to blink. To everyone that has the same car STOP DRIVING IT or something like this can happen and I pray it hasn't

I was driving down the highway and all of the sudden my steering wheel locked up, lights came on and were beeping and I had to try my best to pull over and steer (although with no power steering I was lucky I did not crash into a guard rail or another car. Was able to (just BARELY) get my car off the highway and into a parking lot. Turned it off and turned it back on. It started working fine. Went ten miles and it happened again. I was on my parents street which is SUPER windy. Almost hit a car, it was that hard to steer.

Took it to my mechanics and he said it was the rack and pinion which was bad. My car is only FIVE YEARS OLD. Cost me almost 1600 to repair since it is not covered under warranty. Get it together Ford and do a recall. This is clearly a problem a large portion of us are having.

Driving home in rush hour, luckily in a straight line and not going too fast, the power steering went out on my fusion. Almost swerved into another lane, again luckily was able to gain control. If I would have been in the middle of a turn or on an entrance/exit ramp, this may not have ended so well.

I took it right to the dealer, only to find out that the whole rack and pinion (steering column) had to be replaced to fix the problem. $2000 bill! I had just passed 52,000 miles and was hoping to trade it in, before this happened. I took it to a trusted mechanic friend of mine as well, only to find out that he could do it, but the part is only available from the dealer, so essentially there is no way to save on the repair.

Even worse, doing some quick research on this online, I found that numerous people have had the exact same problem with this car, even around the same mileage, and yet Ford has done nothing about it. I also found a pending Class Action lawsuit in regards to the issue, as well as an open investigation into a potential recall that was opened in Oct. 2014, but nothing has happened as of yet. Even more disturbing is the fact that is has caused numerous injuries as well as death from 2010-2014, yet nothing has been done. I am very thankful I was not another one to add to the list.

The new power steering system has failed and they are telling me it will be $1,100 to fix it. The car is barley 5 years old. This is a MAJOR failure and should be recalled.

Update from Mar 6, 2015: Very Hard to Steer. The power steering went out without a warning. The car's information center said, "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW" AND "SERVICE ANDVANCE TRAC NOW". When the vehicle would start, I had no power steering and those two warnings would show up, but the check engine light was not on.

The solution to my problem was I had to get the steering gear replaced, costing us $1,625.53. This is absolutely ridiculous. We thought we were buying another reliable Ford vehicle but we were mistaken. I hope a recall for the power steering system comes out soon because, from the looks of it, it won't fix this problem for long.

Last evening, while heading out to take my six year old to hockey practice, the Advancetrac light came on followed immediately by the service power steering warning and loss thereof. This happened while navigating Xmas traffic in town nearly resulting in a collision. I have driven vehicles that have lost power steering in the past, but none compared to the brute force necessary to drive this vehicle when this happened. This put the safety of my wife, child and myself in jeopardy.

From what I gather from this site, Ford is aware of this fairly common issue and thus far has done nothing to rectify this situation. I find this negligent and is only a matter of time before someone is killed as a result, if it hasn't happened already. So this is me throwing my penny in the well.

I was driving along the roadway on a very dark and raining night when my power assist steering failed. Extremely dangerous situation because I had to fight with the steering wheel to keep the car going in the direction needed. This happened without any forewarning. When the power assist steering failed, warning lights for “Advance Trac” came on (car with squiggly lines under it), plus "Service Power Assist Steering" and "Service Advance Trac System" warnings scrolled in the warning center.

Drove it to the local Ford garage to get it diagnosed. The fix was that both TPS sensors in the rear tires were showing faults (light on dash as well). They replaced those and the problem seems to be fix. I struggle with this solution because the "TPS Fault" lights (looks like a flat tire) has been on since April and it is now November. Also, I use different tires and rims in the last 5 winters with no TPS sensors installed, and I never had this power “problem assist steering’.

I did some searching to the internet, and there have been several recalls due to power assist failure (http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/07/automobiles/government-investigates-938000-ford-sedans-for-steering-problem.html?_r=1). I contacted Ford Canada via their Customer support and mentioned the current investigation in the US by the "National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, but all they kept saying was my vehicle was not under the current recall.

There were no steering warning lights until the power assist had failed. Serious problem here!!!!

Driving home one evening on snowy, icy, slippery roads in Colorado Springs, Colorado my service power steering light now and the advance track light came on, immediately I lost power steering. I was on icy roads with children in my car and no steering at 55mph. It was really scary and DANGEROUS! Thankfully I've been driving for a good number of years and was able to handle the vehicle and get us to safety. I'm also extremely thankful that this did not happen in rush hour, omg I could not imagine what could have been!

I went to the store and purchased power steering fluid as their computer even gave me the right name a Micron something or other. I asked the man where do I put it in at and then is when I was told it's an electrical power steering vehicle. wtf? Their computer said it took this fluid, then I find out you can't put it in? It has been so confusing from the very first moment this problem started. There was ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING, the moment any light came on.. wham, no power steering! I'm a 100% disabled Veteran, single mom who NEEDS her car. I often have to travel to Denver to the VA Hospital there and many local VA clinic appointments.. I NEED MY CAR! I don't have $1800-$2000 I've seen others post as to the cost of this repair.

I've researched the internet (is how I found this site) and see that there are tons of other Ford owners with the EXACT SAME PROBLEM... yet Ford Motor Company is complacent to their customers in the repair costs and not one hushed word about any recall. I will never buy another Ford if FMC does not come up with some amicable resolution for all.

While taking the turn to come up my road with oncoming traffic and my 2 year old son in the back seat, my steering completely shut down landing us on someone's front lawn. I have researched this issue and it is not uncommon and in some cases reoccurring.

I bought this car last year to keep my child safe and get out of "clunker" cars for his safety and it actually is more unsafe then my 03 Elantra apparently. Yet Ford has done nothing to resolve this issue, however, I have learned a investigation has been launched against them. I have driven Ford trucks and cars from the time I had my license with no major safety issues, is the company going backwards?

I'm extremely concerned about the power steering failure that just occured. The vehicle only has 70,000 miles on it and is regularly maintained by the Ford dealership. I was taking my daughter out to drive for her first time and had this failure occured while she was behind the wheel I'm not sure what would have happened. Luckily it was me behind the wheel first otherwise this could have ended tragically.

This also appears to be a problem that a number of other Ford Fusion owners have experienced and a recognized problem in other models that Ford has already recalled. Please do something before someone is hurt or killed.

Just purchased 2010 Ford Fusion SE V6 - only 61,000 miles for 20 year old daughter going back to college. As she was driving on interstate going about 75 mph, Advance Trac light came on and "Service Power Steering". She started to swerve since the steering wheel locked up. Luckily, she was able to safely pull over and no accident occurred. We called dealer, had car towed to their shop, and was told that the power steering system/sensor had to be reset or recalibrated. They did one more computer systems check and everything looked good, power steering was functional. 2 weeks later, same problem at same location happened again.
