2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

My Ford Fusion displayed a wrench icon on the dash and lost power on the garden state parkway. There was no shoulder for me to pull over to, and I had to coast until there was a patch of dirt to pull into. Terrifying to say the least. Took it to our local Ford dealership (where it is now), and we were told there is a backorder of 6800 throttle bodies, meaning we would have to rent a vehicle until ours was repaired. Ford should be paying for this rental car. I have researched this problem, and it appears to be rampant. This should be a recall and repaired at Ford's cost.
I was on the freeway when the 2010 Ford Fusion lost power, began to shudder and the wrench light illuminated on the instrument cluster. Luckily I was able to get to the side of the road before the vehicle died. I had the vehicle towed to a Ford dealer and they diagnosed the problem as a bad throttle body. After doing some very basic research on the internet I found that this is a huge problem and it isn't be covered under a recall or the powertrain warranty. I think that Ford should be, at least, helping consumers cover the cost of this replacement.
This situation first came to my attention about 2 months ago pulling out of my driveway. The car stalled and was unable to press the gas and then sputtered out and shook violently with the check wrench showing. I turned the car off and then started the car and drove off. I was very concerned when this happened and called the Ford dealership, they stated that it is most likely a throttle body or maybe it was just a bad batch of gas. They stated not to get it check until it happens again, so over this weekend at all times I'm heading out to my friends camp ground 80 miles away from where I live. While driving on the highway the wrench went on and I could not press the accelerator at 70mph. I pulled over to the shoulder and turned it off as it sputtered again. It started up and I was already 60 miles into the trip so I went on and 10 miles more down the road it stalled again at 60mph. I finally was able to get off at the exit and it stalled about another 15 miles on a country road going about 50mph with now where to pull over and at the bottom of a hill. If a car would of been following me, it most likely would of smashed into my rear end with them not being able to stop in time.. I had to get the car towed 80miles to a dealer ship but was going to change out the part myself but all the Ford parts place are out of the throttle body and they have cars that have been waiting on throttle bodies for weeks. I know it was a throttle body because of the complaints all over the internet with the 2010 Fusion and also the code that the computer read off that I borrowed form autozone. This is now going to sit at the dealership for weeks and they are to charge me about 500 dollars for a car part that has only 28000 miles on it and serious problems with malfunctoning throttle body replacements do to electrical or whatever lemon part.
Traveling approximately 70-75 mph on us highway vehicle lost power and entered into a limited power "limp home" mode, dropping engine to idle speed and causing a wrench light to activate on the dash and activation of "check engine" light. Vehicle losing power nearly resulted in motor vehicle collision with other vehicles. After moving to shoulder of roadway and shutting off vehicle and turning it back on the problem corrected for approximately 2 miles where issue occurred again, this time at speeds approximately 60 mph. After shutting off and powering back on vehicle the problem again corrected for less than a mile. Vehicle continued same problem after shutdown another 8 times within 5 miles. Only roadside correction to issue was to remove negative battery cable to reset computer. After completing this task vehicle would run normally for approximately 10 miles where issue would return. Vehicle was taken to shop where a diagnostic computer showed codes of P2112 and P2111, throttle actuator stuck open and throttle actuator stuck closed. Required repair appears to be complete removal and replacement of electronic throttle body assembly.
1st incident: Car stalled in traffic while going 40 mph, coasted into parking lot, restarted car and drove fine - no warning lights 2nd incident: 6 weeks later with no issues or warning lights car stalled again late at night while going 35 mph up a small rise 3rd incident: 2 days later - still no warning lights, car suddenly lost power, did not stall, but would not go over 5 mph while entering attempting to enter interstate. Sat on side of interstate for 45 minutes waiting on a tow truck. I had the car towed to a Ford dealership. They replaced the throttle body which cost $385. The notes on the invoice state they "retrieved code P2111 throttle system stuck open." I feel certain Ford has some serious issues with these cars as the transmission has already had to be rebuilt.

Just purchased the vehicle used on April 15, 2013. I haven't even made the first payment. I get off work at 11:15 P.M. and go to get in the car and it won't start. Thank goodness for some co-workers that were hanging out. They try to jump it but it wasn't the battery. I am a single mom with no family around and I was extremely stressed at that point. They messed with it for a bit and it happened to be the solenoid (spelling) or starter. I got home and tried to crank it this morning and again it wouldn't start. I am in complete panic as this is my only car and I have to work. I'm new to the area and have no friends or family so I am really hoping since I had to have it towed back to dealer that it is covered and they get it fixed today. This is horrible. I should have stuck with my Toyota but I will say that I have enjoyed the car so far. Just hope nothing more is wrong with it because I can not afford any of this.
I pulled out of a parking lot on a highway and the car stalled and gave out in oncoming traffic. The next day, I took the car to the local dealership where I purchased the vehicle, lookout Ford. I was told by their maintenance tech that the electronic throttle body was defective and needed to be replaced as soon as possible. This fix came with a bill of over $450. I questioned as to why this was not recalled or covered under warranty and they had no answer for me.
My wife was accelerating through an intersection and car stalled. Luckily an oncoming vehicle was able to swerve out of way and my wife was able to steer the car to the shoulder. It would not restart and I came and switched cars with her. After 5 minutes it started and I was able to drive home after 4-5 more stalls on my 2 mile ride home. Stalled on way to dealer on Monday and they advised needed to replace a throttle body at a cost of over $500. Only had car for 35 mths but since over miles the warranty wouldn't cover it. After checking with other mechanics was able to see about 32 other incidents that required same repair on 2010 Fusion 2.5L engine. But when spoke with a Ford area mgr they claimed would do nothing and there is no issues with this car or part?
I was driving the vehicle home and the wrench light came on and the car would no longer respond to the accelerator pedal. I coasted to a stop the engine still running but no acceleration.
At any given time, usually when we are driving the car over 25 miles an hour, the car will abruptly stutter and then stall. This is a very dangerous situation since when I am on the interstate, the vehicle will turn off while we are in heavy traffic. We have researched this issue and several hundred owners have the same problem which appears to be with the throttle body assembly. We called Ford and they said that we need to take it in. For a potential serious dangerous situation, there was a lack of care and concern on their part. I believe that someone should investigate the stalling of this vehicle and mandate that Ford resolve this problem.
Pulled into parking slot of townhouse complex. Before I could shift into "P" the engine raced and surged forward into a building. I was stunned. $4600 damage to my car. $7000 damage to building. I told the service manager at dean sellers-troy where I bought the car that something was wrong every time I took it in for an oil change. He said everything was ok. When this accident happened I had it towed to crest Ford in centerline, mi. They insisted it was not a mechanical failure. Approx. 2 months later the service manager, [xxx], called me and said they found the problem. The wiring harness to the airflow was misfiring. (dean sellers replaced one just a few months earlier). [xxx] told me to bring it in and they would replace it at no charge. In the meantime my insurance company paid over $11000. My insurance rates are sky high and I have absolutely no confidence in the safety of this car. I'm nearing 72 years old and it took me 3 weeks to write this complaint because I relive the whole ordeal all over again. I drew money out of my retirement account to pay cash for this car thinking I would never have to worry about car problems again. Now I'm stuck with a car I'm afraid to drive. Read in paper that you were looking at Ford throttle body. I was in fast lane on I-66 on a Friday afternoon. Suddenly car stopped. I was lucky there was room on left apron to pull off. Car restarted when I tried--went 1000 feet and stopped again; now in right lane and pulled off. Knew there was an off ramp 1/4 mile ahead and limped on apron with cars passing. The entire situation was very dangerous in my estimation. When restarting, it was hard to tell if auto was running or not. When restarting auto backfired etc. Prior to this incident had reported to Ford dealer that transmission sometime "clunked" when I put auto in reverse in the morning. They found no problem. Have not had this problem since I paid to have the throttle body replaced.
While going 70 mph on the highway I experienced the same issues. My car stalled out shut off the cruise control and started shaking uncontrollable. I shut off the car and waited about five minutes and started it back up drove maybe another ten miles and it started again. On the following day I took it to the dealership where I purchased it from and they made it seem as if I had no ideal of what I was talking about. Once they realized I knew that it was the throttle body assembly that was the problem I was told that this was not a part that was covered under warranty so I would have to pay for it out of pocket. I took the time to talk to several reps at Ford and I was told that if the mechanic did not think it was defective then there was nothing they could do. I talked to the mechanic at the dealership and they told me that it just stopped working. So I ended up paying $479.05 for a new throttle body assembly and having to be without my car for a total of four day. Only to get it back with a cracked windshield, but that is a different issue.
The first instance I was driving as normal in my vehicle and with out warning going 50 mph my car shut off with no power or ability to do anything besides to try and coast off the road and out of harm. A wrench light flashes when it occurs. The second time I was making a turn at approx 20 mph in a four way light intersection and lost power over the car again with a wrench light appearing again. The only way to gain power again is to put the car in park turn it off and wait a bit to restart the vehicle. When you restart the car the wrench light is gone and the car acts like there was never a problem and runs smoothly. After a 2 day diagnosis by Ford they state that the throttle body is the cause of the problem. In total I have had this happen 5 times with out any warning going various speeds and luckly avoiding multiple accidents. Like mentioned above after starting the car the wrench light disappears performing as usual.
I was pulling away from a stop sign when my 2010 Ford Fusion lost all power and stalled. I was able to get to the side of the road with my hazzard lights on. The lights on the dash illiumnitated (battery, check engine light, oil pressure). I turned the car off and waited a mintue then I restarted the car and it was a little rough to start up but once it did it seemed to work fine. I have searched the internet and found that many, many people report the same problem and it seems that it is related to the throttle body part. I don't know this for sure but that is what other posts are saying. I am afraid that the dealership won't be able to repolicate the problem and therefore won't fix it. I wish that Ford would acknowledge the issue with the Fusion and issue a recall, this is a very serious problem when your car loses power without warning.
Started driving to get home from work and suddenly the service advancetrac light came on, didn't notice anything until I did a turn. The steering felt stiff, not really paying attention to the problem got home shut off the car. The next morning heading to work turned on the car and then the service power steering now light had come on as well. After that the power steering was gone, I couldn't turn the wheels. Did some research and a lot of Fusion are having this problem and so far no results without spending thousands of dollars at the dealer.
While turning left on a green arrow my accelerator became unresponsive, engine did not stop running but would only coast @ about 2 mph, wrench light icon and check engine light came on. The car was jerking during this slow coast to the side of the intersection. I had to put the car in park and completely shut it off.(as I was hitting my hazard lights and praying I didn't get hit by oncoming traffic as the light had changed by this time.) after a rough restart, it appeared to run fine. I took it to the mechanic and had my fuel system cleaned, but after doing research and finding many owners of the Ford Fusion have had this recurring problem, seemingly with their throttle body, I am very afraid to drive my car as this problem occurs with no warning beforehand and at all different speeds. I did notify Ford customer service and was told that they had no customer service complaints about this problem. When I informed them of all the complaints online, they explained that they only acknowledge "official Ford websites". I pray that Ford will issue a recall and fix this problem before somebody dies.
Vehicle would lose all response to the accelerator pedal. It would happen at any time without warning, but first happened after speeding up after going over a speed bump. The next day it happened 3 times. On that last day, the day of the appointment at the dealership, it happened 4 times. The vehicle would not react to the input from the accelerator pedal. You would have to pull over, assuming there was a safe place to pull over, and shut the car off in park then restart it. Everything would be normal until it acted up again, anywhere from 1 mile to 5 miles later. Obvious safety issue, you can't power the vehicle to get out of the way of oncoming traffic it were to happen on a turn or merging on a freeway. A wreck could very easily have happened from this failure. It ended up being a bad electronic throttle body. This was not covered under the powertrain warranty and the total cost to replace was $352.40.
2010 Ford Fusion on Nov 8 2012 driving approximately 67 miles per hour with cruise control on and set, vehicle suddenly lost all engine power. Repair light (lighted wrench) came on, cruise control went from green to amber. Engine remained on but accelerator no longer worked. When accelerator depressed, engine did not respond. Vehicle coasted to a stop. Brakes, steering, and lights still worked. Once stopped, shifted to park and depressed the accelerator and still no response from the engine. Turned car off. Restarted car. Restart took a few extra seconds but did start. Car operation returned to normal. Cruise control worked. No further issues. Weather was clear, no rain or wind, road was smooth.
