There is a reported issue about an exhaust leak inside cabin for Ford Explorer 2011+ and I found a solution for this issue. I tried to report this to Ford but there is no luck, and Ford ignored me. The issue is not from the back door or back of the vehicle, it's actually from the front. There is two issues actually who causing this, one is the hood rubber that located near to fresh air intake, I filled a silicon all over underneath the rubber and the issue almost gone 92%, a also covered the fresh air intake with duct tape and it's completely gone, but the duct tape is not the solution. The other issue is there is a leak from the engine side which causing the exhaust to fill the engine bay and the smell finds a way to leak inside cabin through fresh air intake from the front. Since a alot of Ford Explorer has been reported they have a cracked manifold this explain why this happening. And Ford is still looking in the wrong place to fix this issue I made this video on youtube to explain. Https://www.youtube.com/watch?V=tjokerz0rzc
My truck when in motion with ventilation system on A/C or heat going in highway speed and some residential speed the vents kicks out fumes carbon, eggs smell, and gas smell that has affect my ability when I operate truck
2015 Ford Explorer with carbon monoxide inside the cabin of our vehicle making us very sick for 2 1/2 years. Ford dealership (sterling Ford opelousas, la) has been telling us all of that time there is nothing wrong with our vehicle. We had a smoke test performed on the exhaust system of our vehicle and found 3 exhaust leaks that are releasing exhaust fumes that contain carbon monoxide. We have proof! we also have proof of the carbon monoxide inside of our vehicle! so Ford obviously has a problem with this on our vehicle. All of this carbon monoxide is then entering the vehicle with all of the over 80 entry points that have been identified. Please put a portable hand held carbon monoxide detector in your vehicle, not a home detector! these home detectors do not register the carbon monoxide immediately. Ford needs to have to buyback all of these rolling gas chambers for a full refund to their customers. This is fraud what Ford is doing. The Ford executives that are making statements that these vehicles are safe to drive, need to go to jail! Ford please stop lying to your customers about these very serious issues. Do those same Ford executives drive a Ford with carbon monoxide in them? they need to! we are not happy about spending this much money on a vehicle we can't even use! much less killing us!
Driver lost consciousness while car in motion on highway, struck pole, totaled car. Have since learned about problems with exhaust system in this make/ model. Unfortunately did not know at the time to be checked for carbon monoxide. Concerned about potential for injury to other owners/passengers or people sharing the road. Updated 8/22/18
Shortly after purchasing my Ford Explorer I noticed the smell of exaust entering the cabin. Initially I thought was other cars around me. After exsperiencing several headaches I then decided to check the vehicle for carbon monoxide and it was present.
Explorer exhaust leak. Carbon monoxide in the passenger cabin. At various and consistent times there is a strong odor of gasoline or rotten eggs in the passenger cabin. This causes nauseousness and headaches. A local Ford dealer 'henderson Ford' completed recall 17N03 on the vehicle which states, 'installed lid gate drain valves, and reprogramming climate control module.' This did not resolve the issue. Still getting co odor and fumes in cabin. Upon return I left the vehicle with the henderson dealership for the day. They said they because they could not duplicate the issue there was nothing else they could do.
My daughter was driving my vehicle for several months. During this time she had headaches, nausea, and severe fatigue. While driving she passed out at the wheel, ran off the road and hit a guardrail. After a multitude of medical tests we realized that it must have been carbon monoxide poisoning from the exhaust of my vehicle that caused her to feel bad and then pass out. See also ODI 11047890.
I was driving on a city street and passed out at the wheel. I ran off the road and hit a guardrail. I had nausea, headaches, and extreme fatigue for several months prior to this incident as well as this day. At the time, I had not heard of the issues some Explorer had with exhaust. After having to have many tests run by a cardiologist and neurologist, nothing was found. I heard of the exhaust issue on the news one night and a light went off. I believe my sickness and passing out was due to carbon monoxide poisoning. See also ODI 11048095.
On the seat belts the middle role bucket seats are both tearing where the air bag is in them and they are also hard to latch so the seat belt can't come undone unless you push the red button. On the 'other complaint' my husband and my 6 year old daughter have been getting headaches every since we bought the car new and my daughter gets nauseated and she passes out asleep in the car but it never crossed my mind about my car possibly leaking carbon monoxide inside my car until the other day when a friend made the comment to me about S recall for that on my vehicle makes models and year. I'm very worried about this and if my car is leaking carbon monoxide my 6 year old daughter has been breathing it since April of 2015 when we bought it brand new as I have been and my 4 year old son and my husband (which he doesn't ride/drive in my car much at all). I took my car the the dealer so that it can be checked out in service. What do I need to do now?
We have had a problem with this vehicle regarding carbon monoxide. This problem has been on-going since February 2017. I have repair orders since then, and the notice of a recall from Ford's website. The representatives from Ford are not helping me at all, and I do not know what else to do.
The exhaust fumes, are really bad, now that I know where the smell is coming from, after reading several other owner experiences. Exhaust fumes are entering the compartment of the vehicle. I didn't really know what the smell was at first. But when I accelerate on the on ramp to the express way is when the fumes really get bad, now I'm roll the window down from time to time, when I on the express way and do not know if my passenger know what's going on. The area of on ramp area is an industrial chemical refinery, but again, now that I have read the many experiences of other owner, I hope the Ford Motor Company is looking to correct the problem very soon. Great vehicle, 2015 Explorer limited with only 15,000 miles (retirement vehicle), I want to be a safe driver and keep my love one's safe while in my vehicle that I once thought was safe to be in. I can not and will not recommend this vehicle to anyone, if I'm asked about purchasing this vehicle for themselves. Been a Ford purchaser since 1972 ?
Frequent headaches when riding in the car, nausea and nose bleeds. Happens at different times, especially when riding in the car for longer periods of time.
Occasional exhaust/sulfur smell inside vehicle cabin during highway acceleration or under heavy load such as towing trailer.. first noticed in 05/2017 and continues to the present day. Initial complaint to dealer who indicated it was normal 'new' engine smell that would disappear over time and later conversations indicated 'unable to duplicate', plus I found later that apparently there was no documentation in the vehicle service records regarding any complaints.
5/27/2016, we unknowingly purchased our 2015 Ford Explorer. Since then we have experienced a number of issues with this vehicle. The first major issue is exhaust fumes, gases entering into the cabin of the vehicle while driving and upon acceleration. Second, 8/25/17, this vehicle lost all of its functions (brakes, steering) while I was operating the vehicle on a busy street with my children in the car. I have made the decision this vehicle is unsafe to operate and is an accident waiting to happen. I have stopped putting my children in the car because of the fact that it is making us ill and I am scared. We have experienced headaches, nausea, lethargy, nose bleeds, stomach issues for a prolonged period of time. We have been ill more often than not. I feel this vehicle is silently and slowly hurting us. I am so frightened of what it has done to us long term. It's on a daily basis that we experience the strong foul odor and smells of exhaust fumes and gases entering into the cabin. I cannot say enough how badly it smells of exhaust. I do not use the A/C or heater because I am so fearful of what could happen to myself or my family with the windows closed. This is on a daily basis. 8/28/17, I contacted Ford. I spoke with a representative in customer relations about everything we were experiencing with the vehicle. Then was transferred to a manager who took my VIN# while making notations. In return I was given a claim # and told she could not provide me with any information about my vehicle only that there was an investigation being conducted and, she was sorry. Two months later, I have yet to receive any information from Ford. Sadly, I've had to research on my own and found only a service bulletin, tsb 14-0130. As a consumer I am running out of options. The vehicle itself is proof. The next step should be a recall, not me having to obtain an attorney.
While driving slowly an error displayed on my dash display, it was terrain management system fault. The vehicle went into limp mode and seemed to lose power steering. The terrain management knob light went out. I called the dealership here in mountain home Arkansas and was told to drive it until it did it again and bring it in without shutting it off. The service person said that several people in the area were doing this for the same issue. I saw on the internet that it looked like it is occurring a lot, sometimes when vehicles are traveling at high speeds. I called Ford customer service and they gave me the same story. Drive it or pay them to troubleshoot it at $90 an hour. It sounded to me like Ford needs to fix the problem instead of sending people on to possibly be hurt or killed if the error happens at a high speed or on a dangerous curve.
Exhaust fumes in cabin as well as a popping noise when I turn left and felt like power steering was going out. Popping can happen while stationary or moving. Exhaust fumes in cabin when you accelerate. Has been happening since I've owned the car. Dealership (Ford) can not duplicate either. Purchased new tires last year and since that day, the SUV has a consistent vibration. They (dealership) Ford can not duplicate the issue. I was told today, the exhaust fumes only relate to the police SUV's. I've reported this since I've had the car....
