Cracks have developed at the root of treads on all four tires. I have sent two E-mails to Firestone and they have not responded to my specific concerns. Local Firestone dealers have told me the tires are safe. Under the current circumstances with Firestone, I do not feel safe driving with these tires. (dot number: Vncu1px tiresize: P255/70R16)

Three of our tires were 069's, the fourth was a 169. All four tires were separating severly. You could put a dime in the separation on all four tires. Two Ford dealers said we had serious problem, but 16" not on recall list. Huntington Ford sent us to belle tire, who agreed we had serious problem. They called Firestone, and over the phone they called it "weather checking" and gave us four new tires for only $79. We're not concerned about the money, but we are concerned about our safety, and everyone else who has bad tires. Belle said it didn't look like "weather checking". I feel these tires should be on the recall list. We don't want to get any company in trouble, but we feel these are unsafe tires. We wouldn't have known what to look for except we seen it on gma on abc, and we had exactlly what we were supposed to look for to see if we had a problem with our tires. I own Ford Explorer Sport w/P255/70/R16 wilderness A/T OWL tires. One week before the time recall I had to have right rear tire patched. The tire company told me to take the tires back to firstone due to the fact that there were stress cracks forming between the wheel & tread. I took them to Firestone dealer & he put me on a list telling me that my tires were not a recall. 2 weeks later I called to tell him the cracks looked worse. He said bring Explorer in on tues. & we will replace them. They did replace 4 (not the spare) with no questions & no argument. What is going to happen to the spare tire down the line when the tire problem is forgotten? it will get the stress cracks since it came with the other 4 tires. I sent an E-mail Sept. 1, 2000, reguarding this matter, to NHTSA.dot.gov. Thank you.( dot number: Tire size: 255/70/R16 )

I have detailed documentation regarding the 8/7/99 accident involving the wilderness xt tire and now with the recent recall, having the second set of wilderness xt tires replaced at the scarsdale Ford dealership, who confirmed that on both ocassions, my Ford Explorer contained said tires. All correspondence and documentation was provided to Ford Motor Company's office of the general counsel in dearnborn, mi, with no response, (including but not limited to receipts, police report and out of pocket expenses due to the delay in Ford's response to my written and telephone inquires ($6,000), in addition to the cost of repairs which was covered under my auto insurance. I can and will provide all the corresponding documentation to obtain the appropriate renumeration. The Ford scarsdale dealership has also maintained copies of my documenation which they are also ready to provide upon request. I made a call to your office and was advised that I would receive the form in the mail and that was almost a month ago, reason for which I sumbitting this electronic complaint form. Please contact me with further instructions.( dot number: Tire size: 15 )

My Ford Explorer experienced a tire failure by way of seperation between the tire grove at a little over 11,000 miles. I was driving on the freeway at approximately 55 miles per hour. I called the sound Ford dealership and a local everett wa Firestone dealer and they both told me that could not help me. They both assured me that this work would not be covered under warnties. I was less than pleased with this situation, but with limited choices I decided to go to les schwab and purchase the cheapest tire I could find within the same size and used it for my spare. This seems like a pretty shotty thing to have to do when you consider that I paid $23,000 for a truck that was only a few months old. The other thing that disturbs me is that no one at the dealership informed me that the Ford Explorer was top heavy and that they tried to compensate for this shortcoming by reducing the air pressure level to 26 psi. A Firestone representitive informed me that the tire being a class "B" tire was not designed for this pressure under certain conditions. All of this seems very disturbing to me especially when you consider the 4 other recalls and warranty work that I am having done on the rocker arm component. This is my first Ford product and Firestone product. I am not impressed thus far and I think it is appropriate that I be reimbursed for at least the tire work I have had done. Afterall it appears that my family and I are taking all of the safety risks while using your products and paying Ford/Firestone by way of paying our loan. Go figure?( dot number: W2hlst38ij tire size: P235/75R15 )
