Around 70,000 miles my check engine light came on. My car has also been shaking upon acceleration, which has been up to this point, unable to be diagnosed. I took my car into a Ford dealership, and they said that coolant was leaking into cylinder 4, and that the whole engine will need to be replaced. They also said this is a known issue with this vehicle.

My 2017 Ford Edge with a 4 cylinder 2.0 ecoboost engine and 81,000 miles needs a new engine, as per my local Ford dealer. I recently had coolant leak into the engine through the cylinders. All preventative maintenance work, including oil changes, have been done when required. Dealership tells me the vehicle is out of warranty and totally my responsibility to replace the engine at a cost of approximately $8,500. This problem exists with Ford ecoboost engines all over the country and Ford has been aware of it for years. No recalls have been made since many of these problems occur after the warranty has expired and then it's the customers responsibility. Ford Motor Company is not taking responsibility for their product when they have known for some time that they have problems with the ecoboost engine.

Check engine light came in. Took car for repair was told it was the spark plugs. Week later check engine came back in. Was told it was misfire codes then cleared. Week later (3rdweek in row) heard swooshing sound like liquid running towards the front of car where the heat vents located and check engine back on with car gas mileage decreasing from 147 miles to 25 miles during a 5 min ride to dealership. Told low coolant and coolant leaking into engine thus destroying engine. Entire engine needs to be replaced. Car has 42000 miles on it.

Edge

  • 61,900 miles
On my 2017 Ford Edge the epb motor and ABS module went out at 62,000 miles resulting in brakes dragging and very difficult to release the parking brake with the danger of locking up while driving. Also the engine is a 4 cylinder 2 liter ecoboost and has been leaking coolant into cylinder number 2 causing coolant level to drop and the engine misfiring eventually leading to a engine warning light. Ford has issued a service bulletin to look out for these problems. The only remedy is engine replacement at a cost of at least $8,000. Ford has been aware of these problems for quite a long time but has not issued a recall and will not help with the cost of repair. I believe my engine had this problem before the powertrain warranty expired at 60,000 miles. I am not a mechanic and did not notice the problem until my check engine light came on at approx. 61,500 miles. I think Ford should bear the responsibility of engine replacement as the engine has failed before 62,000 miles. A car engine should last much longer. After doing research I have seen complaints of dozens of similar cases of the ecoboost engines having the same problem and beleive it has a design flaw.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving he heard a loud knocking sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that coolant leaked into the engine causing the engine to misfire. The vehicle was next taken to town and country Ford (7800 E lloyd expy, evansville, in 47715) where the mechanic informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. Additionally, the repair would be an out of pocket expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000.

Diagnostic done by Ford identified that cylinders 1 and 3 misfire. The engine assembly has an internal coolant leak at cylinders 1 and 3. there is coolant intrusion at cylinders 1 and 3. a class action lawsuit has been filed against Ford regarding this ecoboost engine. My car stalls and cannot exceed 60 mph. The resolution is the replacement of the long block. Ford hasn't issued a recall for the 2.0 L engine but has issued several technical service bulletins.

Vehicle was taken in for a check engine light on 3/11/2019 in was in a tsp status with Ford that turned into a recall. The recall has not been successfully repaired to this date and has been into the service center 10 times. It is currently there again. Ford has made all of the repairs under warranty. However, a dangerous issue persists with the engine. The vehicle cannot be driven and Ford master mechanics have not solved the issues. The vehicle cannot be driven because it presents a very clear hazard for the occupants as well as the public. The engine looses coolant rapidly with Ford not being able to determine when the coolant goes. The engine seizes and causes you to have to immediately stop.

  • 36,200 miles
Frst noticed in November the car would not generate heat while at idle. This prevented defrosting of windshield. Noticed heat would return at higher revs, but this also decreased. Noticed fluid level was low added antifreeze and heat returned somewhat but not at idle. Car has 36,200 miles, just off warranty. This is an obvious safety hazard since drivingin winter requires a functioning defroster. Local mechanic noted that check engine light for misfire of cylinder #1 indicated a head gasket leak which was where my coolant was disappearing. There are no signs of outward leaks, or a oder of coolant in the cabin from the heat core. It is now January, and I cannot drive the car due to lack of heat and risk of damage to the engine. Emailed my dealer, but as of yet no response.

Car has 69,000 miles. Check engine light has come on. Was told a new engine is needed because coolant is leaking into the cylinders. Thousands of the same complaint and now we are told we need a new engine on a car that is barely three years old and of course out of warranty. Why has not one thing been done to resolve this with Ford. Had we known we were buying a lemon we would have never purchased this vechicle. Ford knows this is a problem and they have done nothing to rectify the defect in the product they put out on the market. We have no recourse here and what Ford has done borders on illegal to have a known probem with no recourse for the consumers.

  • 58,000 miles
I was running errands driving around town one day when I noticed my auto engine start/stop feature in my 2017 Ford Edge stopped working. I took my car to the dealership & they said it was a misfire in the engine. A week later, a yellow light with the picture of an engine appears on my dash. I took my car for a diagnostic. It came back with the code P0304. I take my car to Ford and they suggest replacing the long block. They quote me $6,800. I noticed that my heat in my car stopped working on the way home. I check the coolant level and it was really low. I put coolant in my reservoir and it works again. But, I have to keep filling the reservoir with coolant every other day, which gets expensive. I tell the service guys, and they tell me that the coolant is leaking into my engine due to a manufacturer defect, which causes the heating to stop working, and low coolant levels. I contact Ford motors company, and they tell me my car is out of warranty. I purchased my car used on February 27,2020. It had 57 thousand miles on it the day of purchase. The warranty was up at 60 thousand miles. Not fair to me at all as I was told I had a warranty from the mileage I got the car at and 60 thousand miles beyond. They said it was nothing they can do and also because I did not leave my car at the Ford dealership they would not work on my case. My case manager from Ford motors never ever contacted me prior to closing my case once she discovered I never left my car at Ford. I tried reaching out to her several times in attempts of getting my car to Ford and seeing where we can go from there, and she never answered or returned any of my calls or emails. Ford needs to be held accountable and issue a recall as they were made aware of the expensive issue by many other customers from reviews and forums I have read online and heard from other Edge owners.

Happens every time I brake. Hitting the brake to stop engine shakes violently as I come to a stop. In addition to violent engine shaking the car is thrusting forward. I have to put my foot harder on the brake not to hit the vehicle in front of me. I will have to throw it in neutral to stop the shaking. In neutral the engine revs. When traffic begins to move I have to put it back in drive and hit the gas but then it lags severely. It won't go anywhere for multiple seconds before it finally takes off. That literally happens everytime I stop and go. If you are in park and have your foot on the brake too long before putting in a gear it stalls out. I have taken it to the Ford dealership and opened a case with Ford corporation who both deemed the vehicle unsafe, but neither want to take care of the issue. This issue has been going on for months. I've taken it to the Ford dealership twice and Ford has denied to assist with getting it fixed twice. There are so many unsafe 2017 Ford Edge transmissions. I wish they would have to pay for this. It's very scary to drive. My documents are in the Ford computer system. They say the whole transmission locks up and rhe whole transmission needs replaced. I've almost been hit so many times pulling out because the car doesn't go.
