CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Edge has its fair share of problems, but chief among them is an annoying “door ajar” warning light that won’t shut off even when the door is most definitely closed. While the retina-burning, ever-present false reminder on your dashboard is bad, it points to a deeper problem that can drain the battery, leave the doors unlocked while in motion, or render the key fob useless.

Brake booster - there is a known problem with a defective part (brake booster) on the Ford Edge as identified by Ford in the customer satisfaction program 13N02. Despite Ford's knowledge of the faulty/defective part, they only issued a recall for vehicles built at the Oakville assembly plant. My car began to fail about 2 weeks ago and I took it to be serviced. The technician told me there was nothing wrong with it. The symptoms were engine light was on and the car was shutting down when stopped at red light or stop signs. After a week or so my brakes gave out suddenly causing me to veer off the road to avoid hitting a car. I took it back to the Ford service area and was told that the brake booster was bad and that was causing the brake failure and the engine cutting off. Ford is aware of the dangerous brake failure caused by the faulty/defective brake booster, but refuses to recall all vehicles that are having this problem. This is a road hazard and consumer safety issue that causes unsafe conditions that Ford needs to acknowledge on all Ford Edge vehicles and not a select few.

I currently own a 2013 Ford Edge 2013 that is experiencing brake failure. During braking (while in motion, in the city, highway, interstate, and turning the vehicle loses significant breaking performance. When pressing the brake to stop the vehicle the vehicle does not stop at times and the brake pedal hardens and hisses during breaking. This began Wednesday, June 22, 2016. In review Ford Motor Company has a recall on the brake booster for years 2010-2013. When contacting Ford Motor Company and speaking to aaron employee number 62306, he stated that my vehicle fell a few months outside of the covered vehicles. Spoke to jeremy at stivers Ford dealership in montgomery, al. They will not review the issue unless I pay $ $99.95 diagnostic testing and there is no guarantee that Ford nor stiver will relieve the financial burden of the repairs nor supply a loaner for the duration of fixing. After several attempts to get help, including contacting the service manager of stiver's Ford jeff anderson, there has been no urgent matter to fix or help with getting this resolved. As it stands this vehicle is safety hazard and is losing its braking performance which will lead to road hazard of possible fatality. This is only means of transportation for my family of myself (single mother and two small children).

Takata recall we bought the 2013 Ford Edge new and within a week started to here noise in the brakes, we called the dealer an they said its probably because the car sits garage too much. So we put more miles on the car drove it more now at just over 22,000 miles the brakes started getting really noisy an became a bumping sound you could here while starting to step up the speed. We got scared to drive it so took it to my mechanic. They took apart the brakes and they pads and rotors were all shot and will cost me over $500 to fix. We called the dearler who said that it is out of warrentee.

I have two major problems and safety issues with this car. First is the power booster, which is covered under extended warranty. Symptoms of booster issue are spongy brakes that then went hard with little resistance accompanied by hissing sound coming from brakes. The second issue is a defective throttle body. Three times in as many days when food is on brake, the brake pushes back essentially having lost power brakes and requiring both feet firmly pressed on brake to even remotely slow car down, unable to completely stop vehicle, at the same time I lose power steering and cannot control direction of car, the warning light "low oil pressure" illuminates on the dash. This does not send car into so called "limp home" mode it renders the car essentially inoperable. If I turn the car off and then back on again it returns to normal driving function....until it happens again. I've been lucky that this happened backing out of my driveway and in straight lane stop and go traffic on city streets. Had this happened when I was driving along a curvy mountain road, along the coast or on a los angeles freeway moving 65 mph..I doubt I would have been so lucky. I cannot believe the throttle issue in the Edge is not covered under the extended warranty given to other Ford model cars or even more that this isn't a sweeping safety recall. I am risking life and limb of myself and my two young children driving this car. This is my first Ford and will probably be my last. Ford should be ashamed of themselves.

Dangerous and faulty braking system. Brakes sometimes feel spongy and to the floor and other times hard like a brick with very little give and the car is extremely difficult to stop and impossible to brake quickly. There is a hissing sound present when the brake pedal is depressed. Most challenging in stop and go traffic or coming off of high speeds going downhill. Terrifying to drive especially with my children in the car.

I was driving down the street and my brakes failed. I had to hit the curb to stop the vehicle. This is truly a safety issued, I was told my booster for the brakes failed and it was too new of a vehicle to have this problem and that it needed to be reported and addressed by the Ford company. This is very dangerous no warning at all and this repair was very costly.

I experienced same problem described in 13N02.my vehicle isn't covered. I'm sure I am not the only one. Its the brakes. Serious safety concern. All vehicles with the brake problem should be covered.

The passenger side inside brake pad was worn down to the metal. The outside of the passenger brake pad and the driver side brake pads were almost like new. I've paid over $300 in parts and labor to have rotors and pads replaced. This incident will most likely happen again. The vehicle is not under warranty. There have been others who have complained about the same issue. This is a safety issue, but I'm not sure how much of a safety issue it is. Hopefully nothing happens during our daily commute.

I was driving my 2013 Ford Edge when I went to stop at a stop sign and the brake pedal was extremely hard to push. The car did not want to stop, it slowed but kept rolling forward while I was stomping on the brakes. It did it again when I was trying to park at a restaurant, the brake pedal was stuck and I kept rolling forward till the pedal gave and sunk to the floor board and the car finally jerked to a stop. After those 2 incidents my husband drove it to the Ford dealership in town, while he was driving it he almost rear ended the vehicle in front of him. The dealer tested the brake booster and it failed. The dealer replaced the brake booster. There were no warning signs that the brakes were going bad, all of a sudden I couldn't stop my car, I'm really cornered that this could happen again and that I may end up in an accident.

We got in the car to leave work and, in the parking lot, noticed that the brakes had gone completely soft. There was a slow hiss when pressure was applied. We were able to drive the car to a shop the next day but it took a lot of pressure, putting the brake pedal to the floor to get the car to stop. This condition came on suddenly and without warning.

The brake fluid line on the rear brakes was not allowing brake fluid through therefore causing the rear brake pads to continually stay engaged. The outer rim of both rear rotors was completely charred and burnt red along with the surface of the rotor being completely worn and gouged. I was told by the repair shop that I was lucky they did not start a fire from running so hot. The rear rotors, pads and brake fluid lines all had to be replaced.

Was driving down the road and the fixing to turn and the engine shut down and lost all power to steering and brakes and the engine low oil pressure light displayed on dash. Vehicle started back up after a while but had the car towed in anyway to dealer. The dealer said they couldn't duplicate the problem and gave us the car back. The computer should have stored the problem you would think. This is the 3rd time we have had this car for different problems at 24000 miles. This will probably happen again and somebody will probably get hurt and then Ford is going to have a big problem on their hands. Scared to even drive this lemon now.

We're keeping smell burning "rubber burning" smell like a fire burn. Transmission fluid was empty and no fluid there with no leaking, I had to pour fluid. Took this to dealership, they seems do not want to help or something like that. They were told me it was fine, didn't see anything wrong which this is not first time that I complain about that. I have decided to read another people who complain about smell issues so I am not only one. It has also not control very well when I was speeding.

Around 8/25/2014 I noticed my breaks making a funny hissing noise when I pushed on the brakes. It seemed to be braking (stopping) fine, but still worried me. I told my husband about it a couple days later and he was unsure of the problem. As days passed, the brakes got weaker and weaker (taking a lot longer to come to a complete stop). I now have to start braking a lot further back than normal to coast into a stop. This morning (9/11/2014) I was about to backup into a parking spot in my companies parking garage; while I was preparing to angle my car to reverse into the spot, my brakes locked up and would not stop! I almost rolled into the parked car in front of me. I had to throw my car in reverse before I actually hit the parked car!! I am taking my car into the dealer first thing in the morning! appears from other recent complaints that this is an ongoing issue and it needs to be resolved. What if I had been traveling at a faster rate of speed when my brakes decided to fail? this is putting my life, my families life, and others on the road at risk!!
