CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Edge has its fair share of problems, but chief among them is an annoying “door ajar” warning light that won’t shut off even when the door is most definitely closed. While the retina-burning, ever-present false reminder on your dashboard is bad, it points to a deeper problem that can drain the battery, leave the doors unlocked while in motion, or render the key fob useless.

Break booster went out. This causes the break pedal to be hard to press and delay in breaking.

My brake booster failed. It had a hissing sound when the pedal was depressed, and the brakes were extremely difficult to actuate when driving under any conditions. I know there was a similar recall on the Ford Edge but they tell me that mine is not affected or covered. I just paid to have it replaced at 23,126 miles.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 20 mph, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle when the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle accelerated without warning and the contact crashed into a pole. The contact sustained arm, knee, and back injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed major repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

  • 76,000 miles
At approximately 76,000 miles, my 2013 Ford Edge's brakes failed. I was on the interstate when I hit the brakes. The brakes were hard to press & the vehicle did not slow down. I pressed down harder & came to a very hard & sudden stop. Thankfully there was no one following & I was able to avoid an accident. I slowed & within a couple of seconds brakes became responsive again. I needed to get home so I drove as slow as possible staying away from other cars, however brakes worked without issues. Approaching home there were multiple stop signs & again the brakes locked & the car did not stop. I also heard a loud whistling noise in the car. I took the car to the dealer & even though the dealer says they know brakes are failing in the 2010-2013 Ford Edges, there is no recall, only a customer service program that does not apply to my VIN. This program number is 13N02 and extends the coverage out to 150K miles on selected vehicle's. I contacted Ford @ 1-866-436-7332 to express my problem & concern. I spoke to 4 different representatives that all recited the same script. The script basically said sorry your car is experiencing a problem and to have a certified Ford dealership fix it at my cost. Apparently someone decided that the expense of the estimated number of people they put at risk of death or injury is still less than what it would cost them to fix their faulty brakes. Here is the kicker, I bought this car certified pre owned in early 2016. How was Ford of port richey, able to certify this car when the brakes were already failing!!!!! they sold me a death trap! I have decided to have a local and highly recommended shop fix my vehicle rather than line the pockets of Ford that seemed ok with placing my family & others at risk while being aware of the problems with the installed faulty brake boosters.

At approximately 46,000 miles, my 2013 Ford Edge's brakes failed. I was on the interstate behind a semi truck when they hit the brakes. Brakes were locked, hard to press and the vehicle did not slow down. Thankfully there was no one on the following lane and I was able to avoid an accident. I decelerated and within a couple of seconds brakes became responsive again. I needed to make it home, drove trying to go as slow as possible and staying away from other cars, however brakes worked without issues. Approaching home there was a stop sign and again I was lucky enough to avoid an accident when the brakes locked and the car did not stop. This time a loud whistling noise filled the cabin. To add insult to injury, even though the dealer says they know brakes are failing in their F150's and Ford Edges, there is no recall, and they made me pay a deductible to fix the car that is under warranty. Apparently someone decided that the expense of the estimated number of people they put at risk of death or injury is still less than what it would cost them to fix their faulty brakes. Here is the kicker, I bought this car certified pre owned in July 2016. I got my car back today, they fixed the faulty brake boosters and the cabin is uncharacteristically quiet. Since I had bought the car there was a quiet hiss when I hit the brakes and the sales person told me that was normal for the car, I never had a Ford before and the brakes did work originally so I didn't give it another thought. But now that its quiet I know that the brakes were failing at that point. How was bill currie Ford in tampa, able to certify this car when the brakes were already failing!!!!! they sold me a death trap!

Edge 6-cyl

  • 65,000 miles
Brake booster on Ford Edge failed suddenly at 60-70K miles. Noticed it suddenly when driving the car one afternoon. At the first stop light, had to stomp on the brakes to slow the car to a stop, because normal brake pressure had hardly any effect. Knew something else was wrong, because brake pads and calipers were recently replaced. This is a known issue covered under customer satisfaction program 13N02, however my vehicle appears to have been manufactured a few months after the 5/3/10-3/28/13 manufacturing window covered by the program. Therefore Ford has refused to fix my issue. This is insane since my car was manufactured in exactly the same way and with the same parts as the other vehicles covered. This is a huge safety issue, as the brakes are very difficult to engage fully. The program also states that "the fundamental breaking system remains functional" and "the effort required to stop the vehicle will increase gradually" in reality you have to stomp the brake all the way down to the floor with hard pressure to slow the car even a little bit. I would not call that "functional". people will probably die because of this issue. And it's reckless for Ford to have picked some arbitrary manufacturing dates to be covered. Possibly they haven't received enough complaints yet from the ones produced just after this because they are still a little newer? this

After 30,000 miles we took our 2013 Ford Edge for service and for $800 they changed oil, rotated tires, etc. They also noticed that our brakes and rotors had to be replaced due to wear and rust. This cost an additional $700. We have driven numerous vehicles and kept them to 100,000 miles and have never had this concern.

I first noticed a hissing sound when I would push the brake pedal. It then became sometimes difficult to press the brake pedal but then also like it did not work and would go all the way to the floor. At times, when I have the car stopped using the brakes it feels as though they are slipping and the car will lunge. I saw there was a bulletin issued by Ford to extend the warranty on this issue but when I reached out they told me my car was manufactured two months after the cutoff. When I asked what was changed to exclude my car they refused to give me an answer.

2013 Ford Edge, the brakes are difficult to apply and make a hissing noise. Without warning the pedal will go to the floor and the vehicle will stall. This has happened on the highway and on residential streets, and always when you are trying to stop. At times you literally have to use both feet to fully stop the vehicle. The issue started at the beginning of October and has been happening more frequent. I will no longer bring this vehicle on the highway. Why has there been no recall issued on this, or are we waiting for people to die or be seriously injured?

Approached stop sign, from parking lot at approx 8-10 mph. Applied brakes, but they went soft and entered two lane highway approx. 2 feet. Dump truck swerved to miss me. Cautiously drove home but at first stoplight I encountered, same thing happened, nearly running into car in front of me. Wife left that evening to deliver meal to my elderly mother. She said that same thing happened to her at one stop sign and two stoplights. (car was in motion during all incidents. Mine happened while leaving a parking lot and entering a two-lane highway. Hers happened on two lane road near home and four-lane intersection across town. This is really a scary scenario. Made appointment to take car to dealer on Monday Sept. 19. 2016.

While driving to work on 9/8/16 on a mail thoroughfare, I had to hit the brakes hard because a vehicle pulled out it front of me. Since that time the brake pedal has been inconsistent (firm/soft) and when it goes soft it requires more stopping distance. In addition when stopped at a light or stop sign and pressing down on the brake pedal there is a squealing sound coming from under the dash/firewall area. After taking vehicle to local mechanic it was determined to be the brake booster/vacuum pump attached to the master cylinder that has failed.
