CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.
Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.
Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

Takata recall I have contacted my local Ford dealership again ~ they contacted Ford support and were told that the parts are not available and I would receive a letter when parts are available. My Ford dealership was told that if the airbag light is not on, my vehicle is safe to drive. If my airbag light comes on, I am to bring my vehicle in and the reason would be investigated.

Takata recall***" received notice in July 2016 that my vehicle has been identified in the takata recall, for a defective front passenger air bag inflator. At first the notice, and then several subsequent calls to Ford Motor Company headquarters, all stated it was safe to carry a front pasdenger. As others months and months passed without any notice. I made several calls to my local Ford dealer over the 18 month period, requesting an appointment for replacement. They actually treated me as if I was stupid for calling without having an official notice to replace the part. Finally I received another notice saying parts will be available in the spring, but also staying "do not drive with a passenger in the front seat." Fortunately and unfortunately, we have not used the vehicle with a front passenger. So, for the past 21 months I have had only a 1 passenger vehicle, which us in excellent condition and has only 88,000 miles on it. This has been an unbelievable, ridiculous situation for all.
Ford recall letter 7/16 re; passenger side air bag inflator. Call to dealership 10/16. Still not available. Ford recall letter 12/17 re: Same issue. Stated still not available. Letter requested passenger seat be unoccupied till parts become available. This recall is now 21 months old and I'm not supposed to carry a passenger in the front seat 'till parts are available!!!!! inexcusable lawyer speak to cover Ford for any damages brought on by faulty air bag inflator.

Original notice sent July 2016 (16S26) - received 2nd recall notice dated December 2017 for passenger side (takata) airbag issue that could cause death or injury & advising not to sit on passenger side. Parts not available until sprig 2018 - now we have heard nothing and this is an inconvenience that goes beyond ridiculous. Looked up on your site and no airbag recall info.
"takata recall" - this vehicle is now 10 years old. My particular vehicle is in excellent shape and I want my airbag replaced asap. My mother often rides in the front passenger seat....should she be harmed by this defective airbag, my family will sue Ford as I am sure many Ford Edge owners will do. Fix it now.
Takata recall. My Edge is a 2008. All that I read advised older vehicles are at a higher risk. I believe a 10 year old vehicles qualifies as "older". I am not able to take a second person with me anywhere unless they sit in the back seat. The last info I received has scared me. I am not in a position to purchase a new car and I feel that it is beyond time that this issue is taken care of. You can not contact Ford about this. I was told by one of their representatives that their email has been remove because of the number of complaints. I paid for a 5 passenger vehicle and it is now a 4 passenger because of this issue. Local Ford dealers have pretty much written the issue off and honestly I guess it is beyond their control to do anything. Ford won't take complaints. I am beyond frustrated with this issue
