While driving at any speed there was a knocking noise coming from the front tires. Upon inspection of the vehicle by the dealership, they indicated that the noise was due to defective upper/lower ball joints.

I own a 1999 Dodge Durango and had to have the ball joints replaced last year. The mechanic said it was premature failure...that they shouldn't have worn out that fast. The repair cost me $472.42. When the recall is published/finalized what type of reimbursement are those of us who already replaced the ball joints going to receive" how soon will the recall go into affect" I love my Durango, but in the 3 years I've owned it I have had to replace several front end components including tie rods, ball joints, A-arms, tires because of uneven wear due to the out of wack front end, etc. Just keeping my Durango "road-safe" for my self and my family is becoming an ever increasing expense. I certainly expect the preventive maintenace expenses...but all the parts wearing out prematurely is a problem! something needs to be done from Chrysler to make this right with all Durango/Dakota owners and it needs to be done quickly before any more accidents, or worse yet, fatalities occur because of these ball joints.
Required premature replacement of the upper ball joints. Lower ball joints, inner tie rod, stabilizer bar and bushings at 54,000 miles. Car made a squeaking noise in the front end when on bumps and was the result of premature wearing of these parts.
I have a 1999 Dodge Durango which just turned 30,000 miles and brought it to the dealer on approximately October 9th, 2003, to have it checked over, because warranty is up November 1. I was astounded when the dealership told me the ball joints were wearing, and would eventually need replacing. I saw the broadcast on "eye on America" on 10/26/2003. I am in the dilemma of weather or not to get the extended warranty or wait to see if there is a recall.
While driving 65 mph, the front ball joints snapped, causing the front drivers' side tire to disconnect from the vehicle. The consumer managed to pull over and had the vehicle towed. The ball joints, nuts, struts, rotor, and knuckle(s) were replaced. An additional tire and cap were purchased for the inside tire wear and all the tires were replaced. The tire wear remained abnormal.
While driving at any speed consumer heard a noise from the front of the truck. After being serviced for brakes the cause was identified as the ball joints malfunctioned, and needed to be replaced.
While driving at normal speed vehicle made a squeaking noise and vibrated at 60 mph. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the dealer stated upper and lower ball joints were defective/two inner tie rods broke, and right axle seal leaked.
