Braking is very difficult when at low speeds to stop, it is nearly impossible. I have had many very close accidents where I have almost hit other vehicles due to not being able to stop properly. It is my understanding that this issue is due to the brake vacuum assist pump. This needs a recall!
2015 Chevrolet Silverado. Consumer writes in regards to brake failure safety recall. The consumer stated the vehicle was in a minor fender bender due to the brakes failing. The consumer also owns another vehicle with the same failure.
When driving at low speeds and the brake pedal is depressed a few times the brake pedal gets very stiff and will not come to a complete stop if needed immediately.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving about 40 mph and attempting to slow down, the brakes did not work. The contact stated that the brake pedal went to the floor and caused the vehicle to rear-end the vehicle in front of it. The contact also stated that the steering either locked up or lost power and that there was no warning. The vehicle was damaged but was not totaled or towed. There was no injury reported. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to the burns Chevrolet Cadillac, Inc. Dealer (803-366-9414, located at 2515 N, cherry rd, rock hill, SC 29732) where it was confirmed that there was a recall (NHTSA campaign number: 18V586000 (steering)). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 103,000. Parts distribution disconnect
My truck is showing signs of the defective vacuum pump. Problem was sparatic and noticed it shortly after purchasing the truck with 95,000 miles on it. Now at 105,000 miles it started happening more frequently so I researched it. Randomly at slow speeds like pulling into a parking spot or my driveway or easing up at a stop light in traffic the brakes lose all power assist. It feels like the ABS is kicking in and the truck just keeps rolling. It takes about all the force you can give to get the truck to stop. Will be bringing the truck into Chevy this weekend. Was hoping for a recall before I had to dish out the money since it does seem to be an extremely unsafe premature brake system failure with no warning until the truck does not stop.

Brake assist vacuum pump fails. Special bulletin issues with warranty extension. What GM is failing to tell people, braking does not simply become difficult at low speeds, brakes fail at normal speeds. Vehicle in motion at highway speeds, eventually able to get it stopped after extreme extension of normal braking distance. After suggested warranty repair I continue to experience intermittent issues.
Loss of brake. Dealership says faulty vacuum advance told that I missed the special warranty period. Brake petal is like stepping in rock and truck won't atop. Twice almost hit a car or a wall
I was entering a structure parking at low speed when I needed to stop to give the right of way for cross traffic, at this time I proceeded to put my foot on the brake and the brake would not allow me to stop. (the brake pedal became stiff and it would not allow me to press it down). Luckily I did not strike the vehicle crossing and at this point I was using my emergency brake. I further realized my truck was no longer stopping on demand, but more of rolling to a stop. I contacted a local dealer and they said they couldn't help me because they were busy which I think is unaccepatable I would have to wait over a week to take my truck in for this service. Brake failure should be a priority for any automotive dealer.my truck has about 33500 miles and I have maintained and serviced it properly.
Loss of braking power. Hard, stiff brake pedal typically occurs at slower speeds or while repeated braking in a short time frame. This has happened sporadically over the lifetime of the truck.
The brakes loses pressure at low speeds. The pedal feels soft. There is no boost to the brake pedal. This makes breaking very difficult. There are no warning indicator lights on dash to notify of probem
On several occasions the brakes stopped working correctly. The brake pedal became extremely difficult to push down and would not stop the truck within the normally expected stopping distance. Most of the time the brakes worked perfectly fine - this issue seemed to happen randomly, but after it happened enough times I realized it was only happening at slow speeds. It happened to me in a couple parking lots, the drive-thru at mcdonalds, and while backing up a trailer. These incidents were separated by many months, with the brakes fine in between. It wasn't until I received the service bulletin letter from Chevy that I fully realized what was going on. I immediately took the truck in for service and the technician was able to verify the problem. They replaced the vacuum pump and the brakes have been fine since. Chevy would not cover the cost because I was beyond their 72,000 mile limit (although the problem first started before I was at that mileage), so I paid $561 out of pocket to have the new pump installed. I feel this is a serious safety issue that should be addressed with a recall. I realized the seriousness of it the last time it happened to me which was when I was backing up the trailer for my kids boy scout troop and found myself unable to stop quickly. I had to leave the trailer where I got it to stop instead of where we were trying to place it.
Unexpected total loss of braking while baking up, then hard brake pedal with no travel going forward. I was at a complete stop put vehicle in reverse to back trailer in and all of a sudden brake was completely hard with not pedal travel extremely hard pressing on brake cause extremely marginal stopping power vehicle slowed slightly.
Brakes go out numerous times and it is hard to stop even when the brake pedal is pushed all the way down on the floor. This occurs on the roadways and parking lots in heavy traffic/ congested areas.
While backing my truck up at slow speeds if I press the brake pedal 3 or more times my brake pedal gets hard and vehicle will not stop with no warning lights my truck almost went into lake
While braking at low speeds the vehicle loses power assist to the braking system making it hard to stop. Most times I have been in a parking lot parking, however I was in baltimore city traffic last week and the problem happened. Kinda scary. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
At low speed in a parking lot or in out of a parking spot the brake pedal intermittently becomes excessive and non-functioning. Vehicle needs to roll to a stop on its own. Once stopped and put into gear pedal functions again. This has now happened 4 times in the last 6 months. After doing a search online I see a number of other owners have reported this issue. Seems to be a bad vacuum pump. Wanted to report it as well hoping it will lead to a safety recall.
