When braking frequently in a parking lot or at low speeds the stopping power gets worse and almost will not stop the vehicle. I have 86,760 miles on my truck currently but this has done it since 20,000 miles and since then off and on.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving approximately 30 mph and approaching a red light, the brake pedal was depressed, but felt very hard. The contact had to pump the brake pedal several times to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the brake failure occurred for the past two months on a daily basis. The contact also stated that the headlight assemblies were fractured and caused the headlights to be very dim. The contact drove the vehicle to jud kuhn Chevrolet (3740 hwy 9 E, little river, SC 29566) and they offered to repair the headlight assemblies; however, the contact would have to pay half of the repair cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 65,216.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving at a low speed, the brake pedal became stiff and the brakes failed to respond in a timely manner. The contact had to depress the brake pedal several times to stop the vehicle. The failure was experienced several times. The vehicle was taken to healey Chevrolet (5216 NY- route 17M, new hampton, NY 10958, (845) 360-9821) where it was diagnosed that the brake vacuum pump was leaking oil. The vehicle was repaired and the vacuum pump was replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle did not qualify for the manufacturer's brake vacuum pump replacement because the mileage exceeded 72,000. The manufacturer provided case number: 95212761589. The failure mileage was 94,000.

Increased brake pedal effort, hard brake pedal, and/or potentially increased stopping distance due to low mechanical vacuum pump output. Condition is more prevalent at low speed when softly applying the brake. Decrease vacuum/power brake assist over time, failure to follow recommended oil change intervals could contribute to conditions. Driver's information center (dic) "service brake assist" alert will activate 2-5 minutes after dropping in vacuum level, and diagnostic trouble code (dtc) will also be set. Hydraulic brake system remains functional but may require additional pedal force.

When traveling in low speeds, usually in reverse, I have to increase my break pedal effort and press really hard to stop the truck. This does not happen every time I drive it but it does happen often.

Brake vacuum pump failed which resulted in diminished braking performance. This was very dangerous as we were pulling a camper when it happened. Dealership replaced vacuum pump when vehicle was at 78260miles although condition started before that. We received a letter about reimbursement but it only applies to 72000 miles or 6 years. The repair cost us over $500.

My vacuum pump on my 2015 high country Silverado is going bad, is what the Chevy dealer diagnosed after I explained how when I reverse specially it feels like my brakes are failing and then the peddle gets super hard. They said its not normal but how do you feel safe in my Chevrolet truck if my brakes can suddenly go out?

Brake failure, while pulling into or out of a parking spot, brakes lose pressure and become very stiff and stop working. The pedal becomes quite hard and will not work causing vehicle to continue moving forward or reverse. Especially at slow speeds, I have barely missed impacting the cars across the parking lot.

Silverado 1500

In December 2018 while in a parking lot at low speed, brakes were applied. Brake pedal went about halfway then became "hard." There was no braking power and brakes would not work. This was associated with a "clicking" noise. When car rolled to a stop I started moving again and reapplied the brakes. Same result both in forward and reverse. This happened again in a parking lot on April 11, 2017. My vehicle currently has 83,000 miles. Took it to a Chevrolet dealer and they stated the issue was the vacuum pump and recommended repairs according to their pit5361D. However they stated that GM recently published that they would only warranty the fix up to 72,000 miles. I have not had the repair completed yet.

I have been complaining of a braking issue since I purchased my truck in 2015 and have had them inspected at several Chevy dealerships, stonebriar Chevrolet N frisco, huffines Chevrolet in lewisville. We have moved and I took into today and now that the truck is out of warranty I'm being told I have a faulty vacuum pump that could cause my brakes to fail. The dealer, peters Chevrolet in longview, also states unforuntely he cannot see my service records to confirm the previous brake checks which is ridiculous. This is a known issue and GM is taking no accountability in this and demanding a change of $600 to replace. Please help.

The brakes occasionally will get hard when depressing at a low speed and fail to work. This usually happens coming to a final stop in my driveway that is down a slope after I have already been using the brake to slow down some. The vehicle is barely moving when it happens. It has happened a couple of other times going down a slope in our subdivision entrance applying occasional brake pressure at about 20 mph. I had it diagnosed by the local Chevy dealer and they said the vacuum pump and seal needs to be replaced and the brake system flushed. Total estimate for the work was $970 which I did not have done. I noticed online that others have had this same issue.

While backing into paved boat ramp at 1.5 to 2 mph brake pedal became very hard and had to press pedal as hard as I could in order to stop truck. "truck was on level ground and I was turning steering wheel slowly". I pulled out of ramp and problem repeated when brake pedal pressure was applied and removed and then reapplied. Problem continued to reoccur after trailer removed from truck and brake pedal pressure was applied and removed them reapplied. Truck was looked at by dyer Chevrolet the next day. Chevrolet is aware of issue as tech heard my description and he stated there was a bulletin from GM on it but it was not recalled. After receiving estimate later that day from Chevrolet I decided to take truck to another repair facility that estimated repair $500 cheaper than Chevrolet dealer. Repairs were made following the GM bulletin and using GM parts from the Chevy dealer for $1139 as opposed to dyer Chevrolet wanting $1662 for a issue that needs to be recalled. A quick internet search indicates that many others are affected by the issue as well. It is my hope that you may be able to help as I am sure this will occur again as GM has not changed anything they have merely charged the customer to put a bandaid on a problem they engineered. The mechanic that ultimately repaired truck stated GM knows they have problem as they only used that booster pump on 2015. There is no way a 50000 mile truck should have this issue. Please see attached documents from Chevrolet dealer that describe issue of mechanical failure of vacuum pump. How is it not a recall issue if vacuum pump may pump motor oil into brake booster? this should not happen and is not a normal wear and tear issue. This is a engineering failure. I look forward to helping any way I can to get this recalled. Contact me as needed. Shame shame shame on

While driving in stop and go traffic the vacuum power assist for the brakes failed multiple times making it much more difficult to brake and stop the vehicle before colliding with the car in front of me. This happened while driving on city streets. A vehicle warning message appeared in the drivers information display stating service brake system. The message went away after sustained continuous driving without braking when the vacuum system was able to recover.
