This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Brakes were replaced at 12000miles. At 31000 miles brakes were replaced again and rotors were ground down. GM said this was normal for the car. I consider it excessive and a problem assembly warps due to two metals being used in the breaks. Heat problem.
Clunking/grinding sounds coming from front end when turning corners and/or going over bumps (such as R/R tracks, driveway approaches, etc); brakes shuttered and barely responded while driving 35-40 mph down decline in a light rain; rotors were replaced 8/2000 but noise has not lessened. Cold air comes in from door handle of driver sd door, making it necessary to continuously drive w/defrosters on when temperatures are @/below 50 degrees; very poor acceleration, engine sluggish and misses when accelerating; very poor gas mileage avging 21-23 mpg hwy. On 4-cyl engine; rear tail light replaced due to condensation formation when 1st purchased; rear passenger brake light burnt out and need of replacement.; rear passenger door 3" section of paint corroding and in need of repainting/finishing.
When appyling brakes in an emergency ABS system failed to activate, and pedal went to the floor, causing extended stopping distance, cause unknown. After three visits to the dealer for brake problem, the ABS system failed again resulting in accident.
When appyling brakes extreme vibration occurred within the front end, also pedal went to the floor, causing extended stopping distance, resulting in a collision.
Every 3,000 miles brakes would start to shake uncontrollably when applied. Took vehicle to dealership & mechanic had replaced the rotors & drums 6 different times. Each time of replacement, problem reappears. Mechanic can not located the cause of the problem.
Consumerhas problem with brakes, especially at high speed. When applying brakes they pulsate and grab lightly. Dealership replaced brakes pads and rotors, and they resurfaced the rotors. Vehicle has 16000 mph, and tires the tread is warped in the center of the tires.
While driving applied the brakes, and brakes failed to operate peroperly, and vehicle failed to stop right away. Took to dealer & mechanic changed entire (ABS) brake system due to excessive wear. Brake problem has been happening 4 other times.
Consumer was traveling about 60mph on the highway and the traffic was coming to a stop, she applied brakes, and steering/front end started to vibrate. Also, brakes grabbed slightly.
When applying brakes entire front end will shimmy/shake, possibly causing loss of vehicle control. Also, brake pedal will go to floor, causing extended stopping distance. Dealer claimed it was not safety issue. But, brake rotors have been on back order, indictating a defect.
While driving ABS light came on the dashboard. Then, took vehicle to dealer where technician explained to consumer that problem was with the ABS wiring harness that was rubbing the cb booth.
Coming off the expressway applied brakes to slow down and they felt spongy ABS light came on. Also, there was brake fluid on the rim of the tires. Contacted dealer, and they have replaced the rotors and pads for the 4th time. Problem still exists.
Intermittently when applying brakes, there is a grinding sound like metal to metal. Brakes feel spongy, and the ABS warning light comes on. This happens on dry pavement or wet pavement. The problem is more noticeable in stop and go traffic. Problem was reported to the dealership. The problem has not been corrected.
Vehicle has been in for a front end noise 3 times so far..1st the front suspension arms were replaced...2nd the steering knuckles were replaced....3rd they still dont know....4th to replace front left strut....on 5/22/2000 the brakes locked and shimmied, was told the rotors were worn and needed turned.
At high speedsthe car shakes making it hard to steer. I took in to dealer they said rotors are out of round, they cut rotors. Happen again (twice) and they finally repalced rotors. A few thousand miles later same happened. Replaced with a "redesigned rotor" which now has only lastest 7000 miles. Now warreny is up and no wants to replace rotors. I have contacted dealer, Chevy, sales and service. I have received no help other then I'm out of luck. My car is not the only car with this problem. What do I dao to get Chevy to be responsible for the defective rotors or braking system?
