The brakes had to be completely replaced at 19,000 miles and again 11,000 miles later. Independent brake repair shop said it was a manufacturer defect. Still trying to resolve with GMC.
While driving at a high rate of speed and putting on brakes, steering wheel vibrated a lot. Consumer talked to Chevrolet, andthey said it was caused some flaws in the rotors.
Ongoing problem with frontal vibration while traveling at highway speed of 65-70 mph. Also, caused vehicle to go out of control when applying brakes at that speed. Vehicle been in/out dealer shop on nine occasions. Some repairs and parts replacements was made; but, problem still occurring.
Took vehicle to mechanic due to brake problems. Was informed by mechanic brakes were too hot & were warping the rotors. While traveling at highway speed brakes would get worse. They would shake badly. Also, no brake lights. Cover for lights had melted. Vehicle repaired 3 times already. Brakes failed to stop vehicle.
Whenever brakes were applied in an emergency situation/sudden stop, it caused vehicle to go out of control. Vehicle been in/out of dealer shop on four occasions, and nothing could be found.
When applying brakes there is a shimmy in the steering wheel. Contacted dealer, and they replaced front brake rotors. Had to take back vehicle to dealer for the same problems on 3-Mar-2000 at 16800 miles, and dealer replaced rotors again.
When driving the car upon putting on the brakes the car shakes and vibrates. Sometimes it is violent enough that it is hard to control. This has happened three times. I have had the car fixed twice and waiting for an appointment to have it fixed again. The lights also go dim when you roll the windows down. This was a program car when we purchased it. I need a dependable car for me and my family. Something that I do not believe that this car is.
When applying the brakes the vehicle would begin to surge then shake and shimmy making steering difficult the rotors were turned and worked fine for about 3000 mi. Then the same problem occurred the rotors were then replaced while at the dealership we learned that they were having a lot of this type of problem with the Malibu and Grand Am. We were also informed that the warranty on the rotors was only for 17000 mi. Rather than the 36000 mi. Shown in the warranty book.
I have had this Malibu in the shop 7 times for the engine check light coming on security system for 3 or 4 times that is working now brakes that has failed 2 times in the last 3 weeks and I am scared to drive it I have got 2 little children and I am scared to get it my own car what I thought was safe to drive when I got it.
At less than 3000 miles car started to lose power in acceleration. And transmission started shifting roughly. Has now been to dealership 5 times for the same problem. My children and I have almost gotten ran over by other automobiles numerous times, simply because the car would not go. While the car was in for the 2nd repair of the clock spring they broke the tilt lever and scratched trim on steering column. Tires are wearing unevenly dealer stated this was normal for a Malibu. This car has been nothing but problems since the first day. I have driven more loaner cars than I have my own that I continue to make payments on. Most of the miles on my car has been due to repeated visits to the shop. I am very unhappy with this car, the dealership, the service dept., and the way GM has handled the case.( dot number: 93T M + S tire size: P2155or15 )
Driver's side restraint lock up when the brakes are applied in normal stopping. Also, vehicle experiences extended stopping distance intermittently when brakes are applied. Dealer has inspected the vehicle. With out jumping on the breaks the driver side seat belt will lock up, so you can't look to left side to get into lane or get on hwy on ramps.
