I took my vehicle to my mechanic for some minor work & he found a much bigger problem. My timing chain is making alot of noise & he told me it will ruin my engine. My engine only has just over 95, 000 miles on it. What can be done about this issue?

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. While, driving at 60 mph, the stability track warning light, decrease engine power (limp mode) and oil pressure warning lights illuminated. The vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated the rear seal and pvc needed to be flushed and transmission needed to be removed. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the failure was not covered under tsb 14882. The failure mileage was 81,000.

No warning engine light came on and vehicle stalling (P011 and P016 codes) took to automotive repair shop new engine refurbished $5000 new $10,000 unfortunately no funds for either just over 100,000 miles and still owe $13,000 I understand these are the same issues that have been noted in first generation vehicle. I now have to look for a replacement vehicle while paying for one that does not work.

2015 Equinox, 103K miles, PCV system froze and main seal blow out. Oil leaked out very quickly while driving on the interstate, loss of power and a dangerous situation. Bulletin 14882 does not cover my 2.4L ecotec engine, as it only covers 2010-14 model years. My vehicle has the same exact issue as the recall in the bulletin, yet I am stuck with a $6K bill. My vehicle also has the issue where it burns oil. The low engine oil pressure light did not come on until damage had already occurred. Bulletin 14882 needs to be extended to include further model years. This was a very dangerous situation that has resulted in a significant financial loss. GM is more than aware of this issue.

Engine seized while driving at 50 mph causing loss of power steering and power brakes and leaving my wife stranded on the side of the road. Seems that the pvc system plugged causing rear main seal to blow out and loose all the oil. GM has issued a bulletin "14882" that covers 2010-2014 model years. Our Chevy Equinox is a 2015, so the same issue seems to follow later models.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. While the vehicle was undergoing an oil change by an independent mechanic, the contact was informed that the vehicle had no oil. The mechanic mentioned an unknown tsb issued by the manufacturer for the same failure. The contact received oil changes from rk Chevrolet (502 N delsea dr, vineland, NJ 08360, (856) 469-4061) for the past four years. The dealer stated that they were aware of the tsb, but the vehicle was not eligible for the extended warranty offered by the tsb. The contact stated that the vehicle was currently operating at half power, and there were pinging and rattling sounds. The vehicle was burning an excessive amount of oil between oil changes. The contact took the vehicle to the same dealer on February 6, 2019 and the failure was supposed to have been repaired. The manufacturer stated that there was no recall for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 90,000. The VIN was unknown.

2015 Chevrolet Equinox intermittently sputtered and stalled at stop signs and stoplights. After stalling need to put car N 'park' before restarting. Car stalled several times after initial stall. Car also sputtered and almost died several times during freeway rush hour traffic when I took my foot off the gas. I had to put the car in 'neutral' and revved the engine to ensure the engine kept running. This could have been a serious issue should I been forced to stop in the middle of traffic. Mechanic replaced the vvt intake and exhaust solenoids.

Oil consumption issue. Chevrolet's definition of oil consumption issue is using a quart (or more) within 2000 miles (or less). Other companies would define this as an issue but Chevrolet does not see this as an issue. My car has shut off while in motion on a main road 7-9 times. It has also occurred in parking lots. I have to attempt multiple times for my car to stay on to get off of the roadway. It happens in forward and reverse.

For a few days my car was running rough then while driving down the road about 45 mph it suddenly lost power and really began running rough. There were no warning lights, nothing. I pulled over and turned the car off and then turned it back on. It still was running rough. At this point the check engine light came on and a message popped saying the engine was running at reduced power. I drove 1/2 mile at ~ 15 mph to drop my daughter at school. At that point the car totally died. When it was taken to the shop it was found to have no oil. There was no indication that my car was out of oil or running low on oil and it probably had about 3500 miles since last oil change. My engine was ruined and now I have to purchase another motor! not happy as the car had about ~100K miles and that's low to me. And apparently there are issues with these engines so I am probably just paying to put another bad engine in!

The vehicle stalls upon going a slow rate of speed as when backing out of a driveway, driving in a parking lot, or stopping and trying to perform a turn on a city street. It can also stall on the interstate if you idle while slowed due to traffic stops. You have to turn the car off and restart the vehicle. It stalls about 3-4 times a trip. Several times a day. The check engine light is on.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. While the contact's daughter was driving 60-65 mph, the vehicle lost power and stalled without warning. Also, the engine power reduced message was displayed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the timing chain skipped a tooth and the engine needed to be replaced. The contact called parks motors (11987 us-54, augusta, ks 67010, (316) 775-6365), but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 9-5381264436. The manufacturer also stated that the warranty was expired. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.

Our 2015 Chevrolet Equinox with 62,900 miles stalled multiple times while in reverse backing out of our driveway. No engine light showing. While stopped at a traffic light on a major street and intersection, the car stalled a few times. You have to give it gas when shifting from park to drive to avoid stalling. After 1 day, the check engine light came on. It was time for an oil change so I had them check the code. It came back as bank one camshaft sensor P0011. The next day, all was fine and no check engine light. 2 days later, multiple stalls at stop lights and in parking lights when the car is going slow, starting from a stop and check engine light came back on.

Camshaft position actuator solenoid this happens as soon as we turn the car on, put it in drive and begin to accelerate. It also does it when we are idling at a stop light or stop sign the engine with start to jump as if it's not reacting to the accelerator. While we are traveling down the road you can feel the car jump as if it's trying to stall itself. We have to put the car back in park to start it so if this happens while we are traveling at a high rate of speed then that could cause a major accident or something more trajic. Our car stalls when it's at idle or when we are beginning to accelerate. This poses a huge safety concern for our family as we are going to have an infant in a month. We have been doing research on this particular problem and it seems there are hundreds of others with the same issue as us. This needs to be recalled and resolved.

The vehicle started with a check engine light. Vehicle has 46000 miles. When cold, engine stalls at random stops at a light, parking lot, drive thru. Vehicle must be put into park and restarted causing a safety hazard and driving danger. Code flashes P0011. Dealer stated vehicle needs new sensor. $300 repair. This problem should be a recall, as a stalling problem is a saftety hazard and should be reimbursed by GM. Can cause an accident in an intersection by blocking traffic at random.

  • 115,000 miles
In mid-December 2018, we purchased a used one-owner 2015 Chevy Equinox from a small dealership in jenison Michigan. It had about 113K miles. Less than 3 months later, in early March of 2019, the vehicle suddenly started smelling of gas, rattling, stalling. I immediately drove the vehicle less a few miles to our local mechanic. After the mechanic examined the vehicle, it was determined that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced along with a fuel pump at a cost of about $6300. We had purchased a third party warranty from preferred warranties llc through the dealership, so we thought we would be covered. The warranty company requested a more thorough examination of the vehicle to determine why the engine failed, at a cost of about $200, which would be reimbursed to us if the claim would be approved. Their adjuster visited our mechanic, and determined that since the engine had little oil, about one pint, the damage would not be eligible for reimbursement due to the vehicle being 'run on low oil.' We were floored, as the oil had just been changed in December at the dealership and was not due for a change for another 3K miles. We had put about 1K miles on it since purchase. There was never any indication while driving that there was any problem with oil consumption: No oil low warning light, no leakage under the vehicle, no smoke, no hesitation in driving. We discovered that Chevy equinoxes with a 2.4L engine beginning in 2010-2017 were experiencing excessive oil consumption with many of the complainants stating there was no indication the vehicle was losing oil. We are asking for your assistance in any way possible to recoup our losses due to the negligence of GM in their lack of informing of potential issues.

Purchased my Equinox a year ago June 2019. The car was doing fine up until about the 2nd month mark I had it. The car began to have a very rough and jerky stop. I brought it to the dealer and they found nothing wrong. I got a oil change at least every month due to my job and having to drive frequently. In March I noticed my car was idling rough but drove ok. While leaving work I was stopped at a red light my car stalled and the engine completely turned off in the middle of traffic. I turned it off and restarted it. Couple days later it did it twice as I was backing out into traffic. I took it to the dealership and my car was completely empty of oil even though I had just gotten an oil change. I now have to do oil consumption test every 2K miles. My car still shifts rough at acceleration and during downshifting. I had to have my camshaft solenoid sensor replaced as well. My car has 55K miles.

On 4-14-29 my car stalled while driving multiple times. I had it taken in to a GM dealership on 4-15-19 and they stated that there was an engine oil consumption issue thru the piston rings that has caused extensive damage. There proposal was either a $3500 fix or a new engine for $7000. I called GM myself (compaint reference #[xxx]) and they stated that is a known problem and currently under investigation but that my VIN number was not included on the recall list to have it fixed. They informed me to save reciepts upon payment for any repairs I had done incase later in the future there was a recall. I was advised to discuss my issue with the customer experiece manager at the dealership for some resolution. Upon discussion with them they stated there is nothing they can do at this time as they can only fix "known" issue with permission from GM. The dealership also advised that it would be ridiculous for me to pay $7000 to have another engine added into my vehicle as this engine would more than likely have the same issues. They advised me to rent a car until I could decide what to do. The rental car was $55/day equaling to $1650 a month which is not feasible. I had to pick up my car today from the dealership as I need transportation to and from work as I work 45min away and there is not another option at this time. I was given a paper with details of work needed from dealership that I will save for future reference. On my way home my car stalled multiple times again. It does indeed turn over and restart once dead, but this poses a huge safety hazard to not only myself but other drivers on the street as well. Hope there is some resolution to this as I have read multiple complaints online from other drivers with the same car, specifically the 2.4L ecotech engine, which is what I have. Thank you for your time. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
