Vehicle shakes when driving, especially on highway, sluggish to accelerate, making highway driving fearful. Vehicle also is rough at idle, with possible dying of engine at stop lights. 8 repairs since July, 2017 - all relative to same issue - camshaft/exhaust. This current repairs has been for the balancing shaft/water pump chain, tensioner and gaskets, seals, etc. I have done a timeline of issues/repairs to try to take on GM. Good luck I realize. From the 7 dealership trips in the last year they appear to all have been related to the initial damage to the exhaust/camshaft repairs as each and every time since then, either the exhaust of the camshaft has been repaired in one way or another. The initial issue was sluggish acceleration, engine light on. Repaired exhaust and intake camshaft actuators. Then the alternator/belt went out (not counted in the 7 - had repaired elsewhere). I didn't know they failed from oil all over them until they started to fail again and looked under hood and saw oil all over the thing. Took to dealership where they replaced R+R seal, pulley, belt and balancer. Since then we have had the balancer 2X, timing chain 3X, tensioner 3X.

The engine in my 2014 Equinox blew up violently at only 67,937 miles. It occurred at freeway speed on I-94 in detroit and left me totally without power in heavy traffic, including many large, commercial trucks. Luckily, I was able to keep my cool and navigate off the nearest ramp, coasting to relative safety. Two connecting rods were broken in half and the block itself completely ruined. I bought this SUV from my brother who bought it new and it has always had proper maintenance. I hoped that it was under warranty because it's under 100K miles, but when I contacted my local GM dealer they informed me that it was out of warranty due to the in-service date (fall 2013). Therefore, I had the engine professionally rebuilt at the most reputable local shop.at a cost of approximately $5,500. I understand that a special coverage adjustment could be available from GM if there is a recall, but currently none is available. It is my contention that a well-maintained, low-mileage motor like this shouldn't blow up and therefore, it should be recalled. A quick internet search shows that this is not an isolated incident. I asked Chevrolet for a partial reimbursement, but they refused.

  • 80,000 miles
Bad oil consumption and oil warning light does not come on. While driving with my kids the SUV started to idle very rough and would just shut off once I got into slower traffic. After the 4th time in less then 2 miles of traffic the check engine light came on and I took it to a mechanic. I was told that the code that was displayed was for the vvt solenoid and so I had it replaced along with an oil change. The mechanic said that oil can effect the vvt solenoid so I should change the oil frequently for the next year. Each time I did an oil change I started noticing that less oil was draining out then what was put in. After the year I went back to full synthetic oil changes at 6000 miles apart but then had the same issue with the vehicle driving rough and making weird noises 8 months later. Along with missing oil on the change between. Not long after this my wife was driving in boston traffic when the vehicle stalled several times and was nearly hit before she could get to a safe place where I was able to tow it back home. The check engine light was on and gave the same code for the vvt. I replaced this for a second time and while replacing I noticed that the engine oil was extremely low (less then a quart came out). I took it to a mechanic for further testing and he said that at no point during his test period did the oil pressure light ever illuminate. I have been adding almost 2 quarts every 5-8 hundred miles just to keep up with it. I found several other Equinox owners with the same issue so I called the local Chevy center and was told that there are a few complaints that they see from Equinox owners with the 2.4L engines burning oil however, there is nothing they can do and that it is not covered under warranty. I mentioned the service bulletins that I found about these issues and he just said that they don't mean anything and that there are no recalls.

Purchased vehicle in August of 2018 and about a month later car began to feel different while driving. Problem began when I would come to a complete stop and car would jump when accelerating. Then while going in reverse car would shut off without warning. I had no check engine light on at this point.no check engine light until about March 2018. The with accelerating went from a 'juml', to car stalling and having to be restarted. Began as an every now and then problem to having to be put in the shop because it would stall almost every time I would stop. When it stalled in a major highway with my children in the car was my final point of frustration. It is now April 2019 and is currently being diagnosed. Have had a few different opinions on what the problem could be, but no fix yet. All are costly! after reading reviews this seems to be a problem with 2014 Chevrolet Equinox and should have been recalled!

Chevy Equinox 2014 blew a rear main seal at 88,610 miles after being told is excessively consumes oil. I heard a pop and the low pressure indicator appeared. No indicator was present to show I had low oil at the time of the vehicle leak starting, so I was left stranded on the side of a highway for about 3 hours in -10 degree weather. This was a "common issue" in these models and I was told I must pay 1,800$ to repair it as there are no recalls out on this particular model. The engine completely ate my oil and neglected to inform that it was doing so and it was low, resulting in me being stuck in my car with no heat.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the oil consumption was low and the solenoids were replaced. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to jerry's Chevrolet (1940 E joppa rd, baltimore, md 21234) where the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,109.

Low pressure warning, car stalls out while moving, left stranded. Car was taken to dealer and said pvc plug was clogged causing engine rear seal failure. This is a recall on this model but my VIN was not covered, enough though the model year was. I think this recall needs to be expanded.

While driving engine stalls. I notice low power torque while trying to accelerate. If I force it to accelerate, it stalls, and turns off. Almost cause 3 or 4 colisions because people driving behind me do not know that my car is goannamake sudden stop when shuts off. This is happening on daily basis after car worms up. I have taken it to the dealer and they pulled codes P0010 and P0011. I replaced both selinoids (intake and exhaust) $42.58 each but that did not solve the issue. I was also told to replace sparkplugs and I did coosing original brand at Napa parts store. This also did not solve the issue. I am thinking to replace the coils as well, but they are expensive and non returnable. Local dealer advised me that my power train warranty expired on 12/05/2018. Almost exact date when car started acting up. I contacted GM on 01/08/2019 and 01/15/2019 and was told the same. S.O.L. wehicle power train expired on 12/05/18. I contacted them on January 8th 2019 and they did not even wanted to talk. I wastold that there is no recals and to piss off. I did however, notice the oil consumption. Walmart associate called me and asked when was last time I replaced oil, and I pointed out the date on the sticker and told him that he wasthe one doing it last time I was at walmart replacing the oil. He laughed and stated that oil level was too low and light is not on. He advised full car troubleshooting and test. I tracked the milage since that date and noticed that car was consuming 1 qt of oil every 1,850 miles. This was not acceptable. Not sure what to do. Car has 37,000 miles and I still owe 10K loan on it. GM, if you read this shame on you!

While driving on 1-30-19, my Equinox started rattling and the check engine light came on. I check the oil and it was almost empty. There was oil dripping from the main rear oil seal so I had the vehicle towed to an auto mechanic. After he inspected the vehicle he explained that I blew out the rear main seal due to a plugged pvc valve and there was a service bulletin for this problem, (14882). I contacted a local dealer an he said my VIN was not listed under this bulletin. However they were unable to answer what criteria was needed to be covered under this service bulletin.

I have an Equinox with a blown motor that GM refuses to acknowledge is a problem. There is no low oil light on these cars, not to mention excessive oil burn. I have been complaining about the amount of oil it uses and that its always black - to no avail. A small social media inquiry tells me that 2 out of every 3 of these vehciles have this problem. The dealer milked it until the warranty was up, and now the ag is telling me I'm up a creek because I didn't take it to a different dealer. GM tells me the car is too old to fix - its a 2014!!!! still paying on it!!! Chevy needs to be held accountable for this poorly designed motor. I did see an attorney and I was the second person that week with this complaint. How many more are out there?

  • 107,000 miles
While driving at ordinary highway speeds during cold weather operations my 2014 Chevrolet Equinox with a 2.4L ecotec engine experienced a rear main seal failure. The failure caused a majority of the engine oil to be pushed out through the rear main seal destroying the engine. This failure was consistent with the service bulletin no. 14882 (see attached), a plugged PCV orifice. Icing of the PCV orifice is a known issue that Chevrolet has failed to address. I called Chevrolet and requested them to cover the cost of repairing the engine with the design defect but they refused to extend the special coverage of 10 years or 120,000 miles. This problem occurs under normal operating conditions but the design defect has not been addressed by Chevrolet. I have been damaged by Chevrolet's design defect and refusal to reimburse me for the amount it cost to repair my vehicle.

It was a very cold morning and I was dropping my daughter off at school on my way to work on a state rt. My engine started making a weird noise and the low oil pressure light came on and instructed me to turn the car off. I pulled over and when I got out of the car I noticed that all of the oil had leaked out of my car onto the ground. Luckily, my husband was off work that morning and able to come and pick me up before I froze to death. A tow truck took my vehicle to the shop that works on our cars. They wanted nothing to due with it due to the fact that this was a known problem for the year make a model of my vehicle. They gave us a copy of a bulletin that was sent out by GM, ref # 14882, stating the exact situation that occurred with my vehicle. We had it towed to a dealership and they informed us that my VIN # was not covered. How could this be ok" if there is a faulty part installed into a vehicle, how can the customer be responsible for paying for the repairs? if you search this exact situation on the internet, you will find several complaints similar to mine. On top of being responsible for over $2000 in repairs, they also charged me for an oil change and alignment. How is this good business"

Your GM bulletin 14882 should be a complete recall for all Equinox's. this part is hazardous, and has cost way too many people alot of money. I have maintained my vehicle that I have only had 1 year and now because of your "special" bulletin and bullcrap that it wasn't built in a special plant I have to spend more then what the truck is worth to put a brand new motor in my SUV. As I was driving down a busy highway my vehicle died in the middle of the road in -55 degree weather. In conditions that the PCV rear seal system cannot handle and you all know this, but refuse to take action. How can you be ok with this, and allow people to continue purchase these vehicles? no at Chevy, GM, nor at the dealership seem willing to help in any sense and it is really sad, we have been buying Chevy since as long as I can remember, and it looks like I may have to start looking at Nissan or even Ford because at least they care about their customers. 1 year I owned the vehicle, and I either have to use it as a lawn ornament - or pay $8,100 to fix it - unreal.

Purchased my pre-driven SUV 88 days ago. After pumping gas, I attempted to start my car & it wouldn't start. I turned off the radio, tried again because it was cold out it started but simultaneously the 'check engine light' canmr on. While idling at a traffic light less than a min later, it cut-off again! another car was right behind me. I turned on my flashers & started up again. When attempting to pulling out of the parking lot at my next stop, it cut-off again! I restarted my car, kept my flashers on and prayed while driving down the street trying to arrive home to beat the expected 'icestorm' I called the service dept but they were closed but would call back. The next morning I had my car towed back to the dealer - 13 miles away. The service dept. Has had had my car for more than 2 days & couldn't identify the problem. They eventually said the error code was P0010. The part needed was: Cam shaft position acuator. The extended warranty that the dealer suggested & I paid for, refused to cover parts, labor or rental reimbursement even after arguing with the service mgr. Judging by the comments/complaints this is a serious problem with the Equinox, I'm not the only one. I am a widow, on disability & need a reliable vehicle but this defect has placed me in a very serious situation. I could have been rear-ended or much worse seriously injured. This is dangerous! this needs to be recalled and remedied once-and-for-all. I had no prior knowledge or I wouldn't have purchased this car! ( I was asked to verify the type of gas - regular unleaded not diesel & I have my receipt of purchase.)

January 21, 2019 I was driving home from work. The car started to shake, no engine or warning lights came on. While driving I called my dealer service dept and explained the problem and that I would bring the car directly there to drop off to be checked. On the way, all of a sudden every light came on and told me to immediately turn the engine off. I did and had the car towed to the dealer. The engine blew up and has to be replaced. It was very cold and apparently there was some type of oil build up and frozen water in the air filter which caused the engine to blow out the rear. I service my car regularly and maintain them well. I was shocked this happened as I really liked the car. The car has about 95,000 miles on it. I typically get 250-300,000 miles from my vehicles. I have heard this can be a problem with the engines. I am now replacing the engine with a used one.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle started to decelerate independently, the oil pressure warning indicator illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the PCV valve was obstructed. The blockage caused significant pressure in the engine, which caused the rear main seal between the engine and transmission to allow oil to pour from the seal. The vehicle was not repaired. Tim lally Chevrolet (located at 24999 miles rd, bedford heights, oh 44128, (440) 232-2000) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 9-5027280547. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000.
