My 2014 Equinox uses 1.5 to 2.0 ots. Of oil every 1500 - 2000 miles. The engine oil sensor does not indicate any problems or low oil capicaty. My 2014 Equinox makes a loud roaring noise from the rear end on both sides and now will start to shake sometimes when driving, when I apply the brakes it makes a bumping sound

On 2/26/20 in the morning, the car was parked when I turned the car on and the engine rattle loudly. I turned off immediately. My husband was with me and asked me to turn it on again. This time it only made loud noises but it did not turn on. It was towed 2 days later to a mechanic in finksburg, md. He said the engine was destroyed and needed to be replaced. The mechanic and us had observed that when the car reached 125K miles, the oil consumption increased and had to be refilled on a weekly basis. Before the engine broke, the car was worth about $4K. The mechanic says it will be $8K to $8,500 to replace the engine. I, of course don't have the money and now I don't have a car. There should be an engine recall on the GM 2014 Chevy Equinox. It's unconscionable that GM has so many problems with their Equinox engines and they keep selling them. I hope I can join a class action lawsuit even if it takes years to force GM to accept responsibility for their fraudulent practices that cause such hardship and emotional distress to us trusting consumers.

Was out of town for the weekend. I was driving it and when I would press on the gas pedal the engine seemed to "sputter" now and again. As I pulled into my destination (thankfully I was not on the highway or a bridge) my car just shut off and was able to glide into the parking lot. I got out I looked underneath and all of the oil was just dumping out of the car like a faucet. With my son being with me and being out of town I figured I would get it towed to the nearest mechanic to asses the situation. They believed the issue was the PCV issue in bulletin #14882. I went without the car for 2 weeks. They did the best they could and I was able to drive it back home. There is still an engine lead however. I called the number on the bulletin and the person there said that my VIN is not covered under the bulletin. I was surprised. Only 80,000 on the car too. She said I should of taken it to the nearest dealer - however on a Saturday night most of them are not open - nor was I familiar with the area.

My vehicle was running horrible for a few weeks, then noticed real bad oil leak. Dropped vehicle off at dealer where I was told that I had a blocked PCV valve causing my rear main oil seal to push out. Had all the work done, plus other work dealer recommended. After the fact I looked up my complaint that I was having on the internet and came across similar complaints and found GM bulletin number 14882 that specifies the same complaint that I had. I brought this up to the manufacturing company and they explain to me that this bulletin is VIN specific and it would not be covered. Can't understand why not when it's the same engine, year.. etc

I was parking my car and it lurched forward about 2 inches. I turned the car off and went into work. When I came back outside 5 hours later, all the engine oil had leaked out and the car would not start. It has been towed to my house and has been sitting in the driveway ever since. I take good care of my car. I do oil changes and any other maintenance issues all in a timely manner.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, there was an abnormal noise coming from the engine. There was no warning lights illuminated. After the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware of an oil leak underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to (hwy 34 auto sales, 619 1st St E, park rapids, mn 56470 (218) 536-0771) where it was diagnosed and determined the rear main seal blew which caused the timing chain to fracture. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not subjected to a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

I own a 2014 Equinox it has 103,000. The code was for a position actuator sensor ( timing variable solenoid). I replaced it, simple fix. Engine light still on. Within the next couple months I realize my vehicle idles on the lower side.my vehicle almost stalled out while in a drive thru one day. Once you put some gas to it seems ok. Problem goes away for a while. Then finally one day I go to leave work and my stabilitrak message pops up and takes many times to start. My lights act weird. Car get stuck turning over and went to limp mode. I finally get it to come out of this somehow and make my long commute home, but I can tell the power in my car is lacking.no messages just a engine light with the same codes. Next day my car starts fine and like nothing is wrong. Car stalls out 3 times while driving out of a parking lot. Barely get it home. Then acts like nothing happens. Stalls out while in mcdonald drive thru with my kids. Will not start, had to push it to a parking spot. After 20 minutes I get it to start, but I have no rpms and it feels like the electrical system in my car is not running properly. I make it to my moms, which is very close to mcdonald. Park it, pick it up that night. Starts up like nothing is wrong. I decide to take it to a mechanic. First visit was a $33 part that cost me $400 worth of labor. They diagnosed my car with their computer, none of my sensors are bad. Engine light states other wise. Car does all the symptoms again along with loud engine noise. Turns out my timing chain is bad (1,614 repair). 24 hrs later. Won't start for me, finally get it on. Engine light on, idle issues so on. As of 2 days after that. Engine light goes off like nothing happened. Mechanic stated I had no damage to motor and all looks good. I believe there is a electrical issues and timing chain issues with this 2.4L engine.a safety hazard and need recalled.

Due to it happening to me and from what I have seen researching now my cars engine was blown due to the lack of oil and this particular engine is prone to have an excessive consumption of oil. I was driving the car and started hearing a knocking sound I parked the car. Took the plastic stuff off the top and found no oil in my engine after having a oil change not to long ago. So I had to get my car towed and I still owe on the car

Car was running fine, check engine light came on, called dealership, scheduled appt, drove in to have them look at it. Called me and said that my timing belt was loose and that there was shredded metal throughout, not advised to rebuild or drive as it was very unsafe that I even drove it there in the first place. Needed whole new engine which cost more than what vehicle is worth. Vehicle had just crossed 100,000, no other warning signs. Serviced regularly, no issues noted with engine prior to this occasion.

2014 Chevy Equinox will stall when accelerating. This happens at anytime while driving you go to accelerate and the car turns off, this could potentially cause an accident. I have taken my vehicle in numerous times and spent over 2K on repairs. Currently my vehicle does not have a check engine light on, no codes. It appears that everything is operating normally. It is not, I will not let my daughter drive this car because I am worried that she could be involved in an accident. I recently found that GM had identified that this vehicle consumes a large amount of oil and it causing issues similar to what I am reporting. Only issue is they are requiring a oil consumption test requiring multiple visits to the dealership over an extended period of time. Which I have done and they still say its not their problem. In the mean time I am going to continue to stall pulling into traffic, putting my life and others life at risk. There needs to be a mandatory recall and correct this issue. My last two oil changes I had less than 2.5 quarts left. There is no leak on my vehicle, and I change my oil about every 5K miles per manufacturer suggestions.

While driving on the highway, the rear engine seal blew out and within a few minutes (unknowingly my engine drained completely of oil) and by the time I was able to get over 2 lanes the damage had been done snapping connecting rod and damaging an entire cylinder. There was no warning of this issue and I fear that if my wife had been driving with my two children under 4 that it could have been a huge safety concern. I was able to recognize the slight noise at first that progressively got louder, but could see my wife ignoring it long enough to cause an issue. This is extremely scary to me and at 111K this should not happen. GM offered financial assistance for the repair at less than a 1/3 of the cost and could not get any explanation why it is different from bulletin 14882 that describes the exact issue that my car had.

2014 Equinox. Left trail and puddle of oil up to and into my customer's driveway. I had the vehicle towed and per the repair facility and then local Chevy dealer "this is a know problem". the PCV valve stuck due to moisture in the engine which caused the engine rear oil seal to blow out. 112K miles and perfect up to this point. My VIN # per dealership is not covered under warranty (as many online have also complained).

Have had ongoing oil consumption issues. Replaced solenoids, cam shaft acuators, added oil all the time. Car burns over 4 quarts of oil every 5000 miles. Took today to dealer for oil consumption test, car burned 3-4 quarts in last 1300 miles. Car literally died there after they did test and put oil in (would not restart) was told timing chain and pistons (at least) would need replaced at a cost of over $3400 at least. If engine needs complete redo over $5000. This issue was prevalent on all Chevy Equinox model years 2010-2-13 with this issue. There was a service bulletin about them and special considerations ere given to these owners with this issue. I am being told 2014 (wit exactly same motor and same issues ) is not covered by GM. A simple online search yields signifcant data describing exact same issue on this vehicle (2014 Chevy Equinox) with the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder motot. This issue has been ongoing in my car for over 2-3 years. It fionally killed my motor.

In the winter of 2018 after about a year of owning this vehicle, I started having issues with the engine. These ecotec engines are affected by oil consumption problems, GM knew about this and didn't decide to do a recall or anything like that. The engine started to make this growling or grinding noise in the engine, it would stall on me when I came to a stop at a stop sign or stoplight. The engine seized on me when I was beginning to make a left turn at night during a snowstorm. Thankfully there weren't really any others driving on the road during that time. I had to get a new engine dropped in the following month of February in 2019. As time went on and I drove the vehicle with the new engine, as of recently I'm beginning to experience the same symptoms of which I was having before when it first went out. It would jerk when I came to a stop, the engine wound stall out but cut right back on, and it idled/idles roughly. In order to stop the stalling and jerking issue I would have to shift the car into neutral then back into drive so I won't hold up the traffic behind me. This is very unsafe, I never know when the engine could go out as I'm driving. GM knew about these issues and failed to do proper protocol. This is absolutely unacceptable. And I've noticed I'm not the only affected by these issues.

On January 21, 2019 my 2014 Chevy Equinox's engine froze. I live in Michigan. It was cold. The pressure built up in the engine and forced the rear main oil seal out. I ended up also having to replace my timing chain, manifold and several sensors. My truck has not been the same. GM only issues bulletins for certain vehicle numbers but they are aware that the issue is effecting many more Equinox than originally thought. In fact, they switched the engine in 2015 due to the design flaw. GM should be held responsible and they should be required to notify all owners of a 2010-2014 Chevy Equinox. Recall14882 states many of the issues concerning the 2010-2014 Chevy Equinox with the ecotec 2. 4L engine. Something need to be done about this. I travel over 25 miles to work. When my engine shut down and everything locked up, I was forced to wait for several hours for aaa to get a tow truck to me. My husband rescued me before I froze as nothing worked in my truck. Shame on GM as I know this truck is popular for women and mothers. Thank god my daughter was not with me during the incident. How dare GM allow us to drive around in a known faulty vehicle!

The engine has been burning oil. I got regular oil changes at the appropriate time. The engine burned more than 4 qts of oil every 5000 miles. I added oil as I went, 4 or more qts between oil changes. This problem caused the engine to always be running hot. After being turned away by Chevy, my mechanic was able to get approval through Chevy corporate to do an engine oil consumption test after its next oil change which was supposed to be this past Monday, 10/14/2019. After the test, Chevy had agreed to cover the repair. However, on Sunday 10/13/2019, my car wouldn't start. I had it towed to my mechanic who diagnosed that due to the engine burning oil, causing it to run hot, this caused the timing chain guide (plastic part) to break, which caused enough damage and debris to where the whole engine now needs to be replaced. Though the reason the engine needs to be replaced is due to a known flaw that this vehicles engine burns oil, Chevy won't cover it.
