It-??s happened 2x in owning the 22 Vw Taos. The car will start be good for about 5 seconds, then car shakes like the engines misfiring, check engine light flashes, steering does become locked a little and difficult. Once you start up again it-??s fine. Happened in Nov 2024 and today 3/8/2024
The radiator was broken due to a rock hitting it while simply driving down the road out of town and wasn-??t covered by warranty. My engine started overheating and has been overheating every now and then ever since now due to coolant leaking because of a head gasket leak. Oh and that-??s not covered by warranty now either.
The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to exceed above 10 MPH, with the check engine and the EPC warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The mechanic linked the failure to failure to NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 23V214000 (Fuel System, Gasoline), 21V651000 (Fuel System, Gasoline), and Technical Service Bulletin 1523/01. The mechanic referred the contact to the dealer. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The manufacturer confirmed that the VIN was not covered under recall and that the vehicle had exceeded the mileage for coverage. The failure mileage was 67,168.
Purchased 2022 VW Taos SEL new from dealer. Vehicle began using coolent triggering the coolent warning light. Engine light activated and dealer states coolent is leaking from the rear of the head gasket and is affecting the air flow system. Safety risk of engine over heating causing damage or failure. Research shows this is a common problem and a faulty head gasket was used in production. Vehicle is no longer in warranty and no recalls have been issued.
Engine has ceased at 67000 miles a mechanics has searched my VIN id number and 3 recalls have come back but Volkswagen says they are not applicable to my vehicle. I-??d like to confirm this if possible

Since I have bought my car, I-??ve had continuous problems. The car has stalled multiple times the most recent time that it stalled. It was in the middle of the highway leaving me in a very unsafe situation and after that happened, I took it to the dealer ship and only then were they able to identify that there was a problem with the starter, even though the previous two times that I took the car to the dealership since it stalled they weren-??t able to find a problem I-??ve had a valve replaced on the car I-??ve had tires replaced on the car i-??ve had the brakes changed multiple times even though I-??ve only had the car for three years my windshield wipers have been randomly going off on the car for the full three years of me having it and the service center at Volkswagen has not been able to find a diagnosis for the issue and to me that-??s really unacceptable to tell a paying customer that there-??s no way to fix a problem on their car I-??ve also had issues with the coolant level, always going below the max amount and even after checking, they weren-??t able to find issues with it. Also, my gas cap randomly opens. Also, this last time a couple days ago when my car stalled the steering wheel and gearshift both locked and I was not able to move it, and there was no proper response as to why that happened when I picked up my car from being serviced. Overall, I-??ve continuously had problems with this car since I bought it and I-??ve contacted Volkswagen customer care back in 2023 and now again at the beginning of 2025 and they have been very unhelpful and I want this problem resolved somehow because I do not feel safe driving such an unreliable vehicle and my family bought two of the same exact cars on the same exact day but my car is the only one that has had all these problems, but the other car is perfectly fine and it doesn-??t have such extreme issues. I am filling out this form to hopefully get a better resolution since Volkswagen has done an awful job at resolving this matter
I own a 2022 VW Taos SE (Purchased New), it has been using up coolant, roughly every 2 months I needed to fill it. Took it to the dealership and they said there is a small leak in the head gasket, which they advised is common for the Taos and advised that VW is aware of this issue. However, when I contacted VW, they are unware of the issue with the Taos. I have a scheduled date to replace the head gaskets, however with VW unaware of the issue my worry is that it will happen again when my car is out of warranty. My safety worry is that my head gaskets will go, ruining my engine, breaking down on the highway with my infant on board. The smoke that would appear from a blown head gasket would impair other drivers visibility possibly causing an accident. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request"- Coolant Leaking, Small Leak in Head Gasket. Yes. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?- My safety worry is that my head gaskets will go, ruining my engine, breaking down on the highway with my infant on board. The smoke that would appear from a blown head gasket would impair other drivers visibility possibly causing an accident. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -Yes the VW dealership. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others?- VW dealership Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear"- Low coolant level light.
Head gasket leak. Went from zero issues with coolant whatsoever to the car smelling like it was burning after being turned on and being deemed unsafe to drive requiring a tow to the dealership for repair. Once there, head gasket replacement deemed necessary. Seems to have been a very an abrupt change. Luckily in this instance the car was parked and did not actually catch fire but I am concerned for my safety if this would have happened while the vehicle was in motion.
We received a warning light stating to check coolant system. The dealership stated it was a leak at the head gasket. Our mechanic told us to not drive the car due to the risk of this condition.
The radio system constantly blanks out and will not come back on for hours even after trying to turn it off and back on. There are major issues that point to the recalls that are known for the 2022 VE Taos however, there are no recalls for my specific vehicle. The vehicle check engine light is constantly on and there is constantly an issue with the fuel system. The Taos has issues with acceleration and shifting into other gears. The Taos now has a ticking sound and is at the mile range of (50,000- 60,000) which others who have complained about engine failures. This has been a current and ongoing problem with this vehicle and has cause a headache.
I recently started experiencing a delay in acceleration after my car has stopped at a light or stop sign. The car doesn-??t immediately accelerate when the gas pedal is used but then it catches and takes off lunging forward very quickly. The has caused many close calls especially with left hand turns. I have almost been hit multiple times due to the car not going and oncoming traffic continuing. I have also almost rear ended other drivers due to the surge of acceleration when the car finally takes off. I took my car to the dealer for an oil change and brought this to their attention. They told me it was a known issue, particularly with the Volkswagen Taos. They said they had several vehicles come in for inspection citing the same problem. So I assumed they would have a solution since it is a known issue, but I was told there was nothing they could do to fix it. They told me this was why my check engine light was on when I brought my vehicle in, they tested for errors, found none, turned the light off, and sent me on my way with my vehicle still experiencing this -??turbo lag-??. I goggled the issue and there is a lot of information online and reports of the same experience but no solutions. Does someone need to die before car manufacturers are held accountable to fixing this? It is documented with the dealership that I had concerns about this and I will be taking legal action should an accident occur because of this issue because this isn-??t right. They literally told me, -??I would hate to charge you money for us to do work on your car knowing we cannot fix it.-?? And of course the issue didn-??t show up until my car hit a certain number of miles. I bought the car brand new in 2021 and have maintained the required servicing.
I purchased this vehicle new in Jan 2022. I have had multiple issues with sensors needing to be replaced, auto start/stop not working properly, coolant light flashing on and off intermittently Feb 2023 recall - owner manual insert April 2023 recall - software update Oct 2023 check engine light coming on - needed N80 valve Dec 2023 auto start not working - dealer states no fault codes Dec 28, 2023 auto start still not working, pushed for more thorough evaluation - found a P019600 fault (engine oil temp sensor), they had a tech service bulletin for ECM software 2024 - intermittent and sporadic issues with different warning lights July/Aug 2024 coolant light coming on again after cold start after sitting all night -dealer says nothing wrong Aug 2024 - I requested service dept to check head gasket - they did and found it to be leaking. was told part would take 2-3 days to arrive and have about a 3 day repair time. It's been 2 weeks. I have not heard from dealer until parents reached out to the dealership. Parts for head gasket replacement are on backorder with no known ETA (9-2-24)
I went for my 30K mile warranty check. As I was as driving to the appointment the red engine light came on. It was the engine coolant. There is an issue with the head gasket on this model. I asked for it to be checked. The Service department said there is no leak and they replenished the coolant. I have read about this with many other VW Taos owners. I was also told I need new brakes. The brakes were replaced 16,000 miles ago. The brakes are substandard. This is the second time I've needed brakes on my car. I only have 29K miles on the car.
2022 VW Taos 18k miles leaking coolant - coolant light is coming on 1x per month with minimal driving and mild conditions. I have had it diagnosed 3x at the dealership and they find -??no leaks-?? and their directive is keep an eye on the reservoir. VW forums are full of similar stories where the head gasket needs to be replaced.
Periodically, when trying to accelerate, the car stutters as if it's not getting any fuel and the check engine light will flash on briefly, then go off, and keep flashing on when pressing the gas pedal. It will continue to do this until you stop, turn the car off, open then close the door, let it set for about a minute, start the car again, and you HAVE to turn off the Automatic start/stop. Once you do that, and continue to keep turning off the auto start/stop every time you start the car for a few days to a week, it will resolve the issue for about a few months (or shorter if you drive frequently to where the auto start/stop is activated more frequently). -Engine" -Fuel Injection" -Automatic Start/Stop The car stuttered and acted like it was going to shut off while driving down the road. This could have caused an accident or even caused irreplaceable engine damage. It has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center because it is random and once you shut the car off and the auto start/stop, it resolves the issue for a short time. I have called the dealer and I have called VW company to report the issue, but they both just refer me back to the other. No, the vehicle has not been inspected. No symptoms or warning lamps. The check engine light only comes on after the car stutters and struggles to accelerate for a few seconds, then it will flash on and off depending of if I am pressing the gas pedal.
I purchase a 2022 VW Taos in February of 2022. Right after I purchase I got a coolant warning light. Took it to dealer and they added coolant. This stated happening a couple of time with the same fix by dealer. In March of 2023 they tested the cooling system and found nothing wrong and said the reason the car was loosing coolant was because the cap was not installed correctly and the coolant evaporated. The car still continues to loose coolant. Took the car back a few more times again the same fix, add coolant. Last week the check engine light came on and took the car to dealer. Now they tell me the car needs a new head cover gasket and since I have 58,000 miles it is no longer under warranty. I have taken the car to the dealership numerous times for the coolant being low and nothing was ever done to fix it. Now I am stuck paying $5200 for repairs that should have been done when the car was under warranty but an incompetent dealership never figured out what was wrong with it.
First it wouldn-??t start, then all these issues All of these including the TPS Adaptive Cruise Control Automatic Emergency Braking Blind Spot Warning Forward Collision Warning Lane Departure Warning Lane Keeping Assistance Parking Collision Warning Rear Cross Traffic Warning and the windows would sometimes roll down and not back up or would not roll down at all.
In the two years I have had this car it has gone into limp home mode stating -??start/stop error-?? while I am drivig the vehicle. I have taken it to my dealership and they will not do anything to fix the problem. The vehicle has also cut off twice while I am driving it with no warning lights which has caused other Volkswagen models to be recalled
