While driving at highway speed the vehicle suffered a sudden and catastrophic failure of the high pressure fuel pump. The vehicle has only 43K on it and was just purchased after receiving the tdi update 3K miles ago. The fuel pump failure occurred around 60-70 mph on the highway and lead to the vehicle losing all power and barely making it to the shoulder of the road. I have now learned that this failure has completely destroyed my fuel system and is not covered by VW even thoughthey are using the same part that they are covering for the 2010-2013 model years they offered an extended warranty on. Not only is this incredibly unsafe, as a consumer this type of unpredictable and common failure is unacceptable.

I experiencing a fuel distribution issue. It appears to be fuel injection system. My car sputters and misfires while driving. The engine readings are constantly changing. The engine idles high while it is stationary. When I accelerate to go up a hill or incline my car sputters uncontrollably. I have replaced the spark plugs and number of other parts but the problem persists.

Vehicle started having issues with the fuel gauge showing that the vehicle was empty when we fill up the tank. After the tanks was about 3/4 or less then gauge will start working. I reported this problem to the dealership when the car was new, but they could not find any issues, at one point, if I remember well they said it was a sensor. The last few months the car started having issues starting and we thought it was the battery. Battery was replaced and it happened a few more times, when we parked the car it will not start. The next day starts with no issues for a few days or weeks. Finally, on 3/8/19, the car will will not start anymore and it had to be towed. The engine turns and everything looks fine. When I did some research, it shows some fuel pump issues with 2014 Volkswagen cc and other models, but not the Passat. I remove the back seat of the car to access the fuel pump to check if I can feel the pump running and check if there was power to the pump. To my surprise, when I removed the plug to check the power, the connector was completely corroded and there was some liquid (assume was water) on the connector. I went to the dealership and reported the issue, but I was ignored as they never seen any issues with the pump. On 2014, we bought two Passat a few months apart. The first one was having issues when running, the engine stalls. We reported to the dealership and they could not find any issues. After a few accidents scares, meaning it was very close to happens, we had to rid of the other Passat last year. Now with this issue on the second Passat, we think that issues with cars are related. It is strange that some there are recalls for other VW model for fuel pump the same year but not my car. Please see the attached pictures. I have the old pump on my possession if needed for any reason.

When driving the vehicle at any speeds there is a delay in gas peddle response time of almost 3 to 5 seconds especially if trying to merge into traffic, the gas peddle delays to the point that you almost feel like your not going to make it. It can cause a serious accident. I drive daily from NJ to nyc and do not feel safe in this vehicle bc of that delay. I've taken back to the dealer and was told that it is bc of drive by wire technology and turbo system that this is almost normal. I have driven many cars in my life and have never felt unsafe in them. I now how to second guess merging into traffic and feel that if my kids were to drive this car they are not experienced drivers, it would be a very scary situation to put a teenager into.

Driving a 2014 Volkswagen Passat tdi in heavy interstate traffic on I-24 my high pressure fuel pump failed leaving me stranded in dangerous heavy traffic. I car would not budge, had to be towed in and now facing problems with the dealership and Volkswagen of America not wanting to repair a known problematic part--not to mention a dangerous part to fail at anytime while operating a motor vehicle. I practice good maintenance and proper fuel is always dispensed into my Volkswagen Passat tdi as I'm the only person who fuels this vehicle with diesel. I've driven for ups, been a nurse for 20 years and can honestly say this was a very dangerous situation on the interstate. The Volkswagen dealership is located in murfressboro tn, 2203 nw broad St, phone 615-653-4694

Car shut off on interstate highway during rush hour. Car was completely without power and coasting without engine power at all. Avoided a serious dangerous hazardous situation which was a life threatening experience. Inexperienced driver would have surely been in an accident. My master german mechanics have informed me it is the high pressure fuel pump that failed and left my car vulnerable at 70mph surrounded by rush hour traffic. Updated 10/19/2017

2014 VW Passat tdi SE 2.0L manual my vehicle has 62,583 mi. On it. I was driving on the highway when the diesel "glow plug" light began flashing on the dashboard and I lost all engine power. I was fortunate to be able to reach the roadside safely and I was able to bring the car to a halt on the roadside. Trying to start the vehicle however was not possible, the "glow plug" light continued to flash and the vehicle would not start. VW roadside assistance was called and the vehicle was towed to the nearest VW dealership where I have was given the error code information below and told my turbo and engine need to be replaced but that they are outside of my 5yr/60,000 mi warranty. On July 24th, we left a parking lot in battle creek and drove about 20 yards on hill brady rd. When there was a loud ripping sound on the right passenger side. We pulled the car over immediately, thinking we'd shredded the front tire. Upon inspection, the tire was ok but the car would not restart. The car was towed to maple hill auto group in kalamazoo. Upon initial inspection on July 25th, I was told the internal fuel pump exploded, like a grenade, sending metal shards throughout the engine. We have filed a claim with our insurance company and are awaiting further details.

I own a VW Passat tdi 2014 and just before I took in for it's 40000 mile check up the check engine light showed up. They tell me it's the adblue heater that is at fault. It seems this is a very frequent problem with tdi owners. It's also a +$1000 fix. After some research it seems your Agency has had hundreds of complaints regarding this issue. How many have to complain until your Agency steps in and makes this an issue to VW of America? they have no interest in fixing this problem and offering owners some relief. Well as long as it doesn't affect my mileage I could care less. The balls in your court.

Took our 2014 Passat tdi in for a check engine light on 7/18/16 after testing a fault code of P2196 indicated an 02 sensor was faulty. Negotiated to $300 to repair/replace unit. Picked up vehicle on 7/21/16 after repair was made. On 8/3/16 check engine light again came on. Returned to dealer and they indicate that the adblue heater element was faulty. Recommend replacing at a cost of close to $1,000. Since this is part of the emissions issue we feel that this should be covered under any and all warranty. The vehicle has 48,875 miles on it and is only 2 1/2 years old.

Takata recall engine code for malfunctioning adblue heater, requires new adblue tank $1200 not covered under warranty. Searching online, a lot of owners having same issue. Considering they aren't even using the system, this could be the cause of premature failure of the device. I feel this should be replaced as part of the emissions recall.
